I predicted we'd be struggling against the Spanish, but man, I seriously underestimated how bad they actually were. So, I guess I'm calling for another rough outing.

We’ve been getting knocked out in the semifinals on a regular basis since back in 2010, so honestly, you might as well just bet on the Americans—they're looking pretty solid right now. I seriously doubt we'll manage to keep our heads on straight this time around either...

Following the usual pattern after a massive win—all the praise, the hero worship, and the excessive celebrations—we inevitably revert to the classic American sports cycle: a sluggish start, a barrage of wasted shots, senseless penalties, a nonexistent goalkeeper, and a coach who gets lost in endless bench rotations because nobody can find their rhythm. We always seem to be playing catch-up, trailing by three or four goals; then, just as we claw our way back to within one or close to a draw, someone inevitably blunders, and we end up losing by two or three. It’s always accompanied by the same old excuses: exhaustion, injuries to star players, certain starters staying home, or the media being out to get us from day one.
