I’ve already been hit with several completely unjustified bans. Who is actually in charge here? I want to know who I need to contact to file a formal complaint against the moderator who keeps harassing me and making it impossible to actually use this site properly.

EDIT:
I have all the evidence necessary to prove these bans were totally baseless.

That’s not how you start an appeal.

First off, go ahead and read the rules. They explain exactly how to file one.

If you don't include the moderator's name, the PDF in question, links to the posts, and your actual reason for appealing, we don't even have a conversation to start.

The moderator is Laura Evans3, and this is the message that got me banned—along with the reasons provided. Honestly, it’s becoming unbearable; I write a single post and automatically get hit with a permanent ban.

Let’s look at this situation: does dropping a single joke into a serious conversation actually qualify as trolling?

Dear John,

You have received an infraction on Reddit.

Reason: Trolling
-------

-------

This violation carries a penalty of 35 points and could lead to restricted account access until the term expires. Please be advised that serious infractions are permanent and will never expire.

Could someone please walk me through exactly what it means when they say a user will be prohibited from being charged for services they didn't actually consume? I’m looking for a concrete example to help make sense of it all.
If you don't end up using all that unlimited data, they can't exactly charge you extra for it...

Even Chuck Norris is going to be staring down a monthly bill.

Case number two—where exactly did I violate the subforum rules? I’m just responding to someone's question here...

Reason: Violation of forum rules (sub-forum policy)

Case number three—what kind of nonsense is this? It feels like every single day I see someone suggesting a different service provider to a neighbor, yet it seems we’re banning anyone who dares to recommend an alternative carrier. Is that really how this works now?

Reason: advertising Verizon

I’ve been looking through this Reddit thread, and honestly, it feels like we’re just circling the drain. It seems like everyone is constantly complaining about service quality, yet nobody ever wants to take any actual responsibility for the mess they've made. As Jeremy Harris2 pointed out in the original post : reddit.com/thread, there's this pervasive sense of frustration regarding how these providers operate. It reminds me of those old discussions where people would just vent without ever reaching a resolution. Then you have dustyranger64 chiming in with that typical skepticism, which, if I'm being honest, isn't entirely misplaced given the current state of things. It’s hard to stay optimistic when the reliability of companies like AT&T or Verizon seems to fluctuate based on nothing more than whim. Even when you look at the data from places like Nielsen, the numbers rarely paint a pretty picture of consumer satisfaction. It’s a bit exhausting, really. We sit here, debating the merits of Spectrum versus Comcast, acting as if one is significantly better than the other, when in reality, we’re all just choosing our preferred flavor of disappointment. It’s a cynical cycle, but that’s the reality we’re living in.

Case number four—which rule exactly was violated here?

Reason: Violation of forum rules (sub-forum)

Original Post:
original post : reddit.com/thread Quote It seems we’ve gathered here once again to dissect the slow decay of our digital infrastructure, a topic that never fails to induce a certain level of weary cynicism in me. I was reading through some older discussions on Reddit, and it struck me how little has actually changed in terms of consumer frustration. Jeremy Harris2 mentioned something earlier about the service quality, and honestly, I find myself nodding along. It feels like we are constantly being sold a vision of high-speed connectivity that exists only in glossy marketing brochures, while the reality remains a series of dropped connections and underwhelming speeds. Even with the big players like AT&T or Verizon trying to claim dominance, the experience often feels more like a roll of the dice than a reliable utility. I remember seeing a comment from dustyranger64 regarding the pricing structures of companies like Spectrum or Comcast, and there is a profound truth there. We pay premium prices for what often feels like mid-tier service, provided by conglomerates that seem more interested in quarterly earnings reports than in whether or not your connection holds steady during a thunderstorm. It’s the same old story: the giants get larger, the service gets more fragmented, and the consumer is left holding the bill. There is a certain exhaustion that comes with following these industry shifts. Whether you are dealing with the local backbone or the massive national providers, the sense of being a mere number in a spreadsheet is inescapable. One can only hope that, eventually, the pressure for actual reliability will outweigh the drive for pure profit, though my experience tells me not to hold my breath.

Jeremy Harris2 As said:
Mark As said:If everything is supposedly identical, then someone please give me a logical explanation as to why my service with AT&T runs flawlessly while my experience with Verizon was an absolute disaster, assuming the hardware and infrastructure are actually the same. Honestly, Verizon is a whole different breed of company altogether. It’s especially baffling because Max TV requires higher bandwidth—it pulls more data—yet everything works perfectly fine on my AT&T connection, including both the internet and the TV service.

You’re using Spectrum, Comcast, Verizon, AT&T, Cox Communications, and even Alice—and since they're all essentially pulling from the same underlying infrastructure, these debates are honestly just a waste of breath.

Did you ever happen to have an NSFNET package?

I also demand to know who on earth is editing my posts... that’s a direct violation of the rules, isn't it?

"The moderator is Laura Evans3, and here is the message for which I was banned for the following reasons." - someone clearly tampered with this!

Reddit is privately owned by Nielsen. Most of the editorial staff on Reddit are actually volunteers who were chosen to take on this "job." They have the power to:
  • Time to switch things up!
  • Should we start changing thread titles?
  • Deleting posts and threads?
  • Moving posts/threads?
  • Locking threads?

I'll get back to this a bit later!

After taking a closer look at the situation, the warnings are staying put.

Case 1: A moderator's call. A moderator has every right to manage their own sub-forum however they see fit.

Case 2: "Mark is secretly a troll" — according to the sub-forum rules (reddit.com/thread), it's strictly prohibited to provoke, insult, or "trash talk." Negative criticism is allowed, but it has to stay within the bounds of decent, civilized behavior.

Case 3: Advertising a company where the user is actually employed.

Case 4: In addition to the existing sub-forum rules (reddit.com/thread), the moderator gave specific instructions on this thread: don't just spam posts one after another—use the edit function or multi-quote instead. That warning was issued specifically for failing to follow those directions.

Besides, two out of these four disputed warnings have already expired anyway.

Case 1: A moderator's decision. A moderator has the absolute authority to manage their own sub-forum however they see fit.

Case 2: "Mark is a sneaky provocateur"—according to the rules.Subforum rules: Provocation, insults, and outright vitriol are strictly prohibited. Negative criticism is perfectly fine, provided it stays within the bounds of decency and civilized behavior.

Case 3: When an employee starts using their platform to run ads for their own company.

Case 4: The moderator is following the existing sub-forum rules (I specifically laid out instructions at the very top of this thread: stop spamming one-off posts back-to-back. If you want to reply to multiple people, use the edit function or the multi-quote tool. Consider this a formal warning—any further failure to follow the subforum rules regarding post formatting will result in an immediate strike.

Besides, two out of those four disputed boxes have already expired anyway.

Case 1:
Are we seriously banning people for every little joke now? Do you honestly believe that’s a reasonable way to run things? Come on, give me an honest answer here...
I suppose I could understand if I were spending my days constantly posting on this subreddit, but this is my first time ever doing something like this. Honestly, it’s incredibly toxic for any kind of healthy discourse when people start feeling the need to defend jokes, or when moderators are allowed to claim they can "moderate their sub as they see fit." It essentially means a moderator can just conjure up some arbitrary reason to stifle my freedom of speech, even when I haven't actually broken any rules—which, quite frankly, is exactly what they are doing.

Case 2:
Give me a break. Everyone knows I was just paraphrasing what Mommy said; I can't imagine how any sane person could possibly take that as an insult. Even Mark didn't read into it that way, and the whole discussion didn't even spiral into a flame war.
When you’re being this much of a moral crusader, I have to wonder: did you actually ban Mark for spreading misinformation over the last few months? Honestly, the guy manages to drop a falsehood in almost every single post he makes. That is exactly why I penned that controversial statement in his style—and I certainly wasn't the first, nor the only one, to call him out on it.

Case 3:
You have got to be kidding me. Seriously, explain to me how on earth this qualifies as an advertisement? If you actually took a moment to look around this sub, you’d see I’ve been praising other providers too. This specific example is nothing more than practical advice. If someone is looking to cut down their monthly bills but is terrified that their service might drop out, then switching to Verizon is the logical move—it’s reliable, and it’ll save them money. It’s that simple.
Why is it that every single time I suggest someone switch to Verizon, I end up getting banned? Yet, when I recommend Alice, nobody seems to care. It’s pure incompetence.
P.S. Prove that I actually work at Verizon.

Case 4:
What on earth are you talking about? I have no idea what you mean. Which posts? The exact thing I quoted was used as the justification for my BAN, specifically:
Whether you're using Spectrum, Comcast, Verizon, AT&T, Cox Communications, or even Alice—you’re ultimately paying the exact same money. That's why these kinds of debates are completely pointless.

Did you ever happen to have an NSFNET package?

What exactly did I say that went against the rules?

P.S.
The actual reason behind the ban is that the moderator in question—if I recall correctly, back in June—was spreading misinformation simply because she was convinced she was an expert on the telecommunications industry. In reality, her knowledge of the field is incredibly shallow. I tried to point out these inaccuracies to her via private message, but instead of listening, she actually insulted me during our exchange, doubling down and insisting that her incorrect information was perfectly accurate. 😁 Once I finally managed to prove to her, after several days of back-and-forth messaging, that she was just spreading misinformation and clearly didn't have a grasp on the subject matter she was discussing, she simply stopped responding to my DMs. Instead, she doubled down on being an absolute disciplinarian and started handing out bans over trivial nonsense like this.

Does that mean a moderator or admin can just edit my posts to change their entire meaning? Basically, they can just abuse their power whenever they feel like it?

That’s a pretty terrifying piece of evidence—"I'm a serial killer... go ahead, report me to the cops"...

But let’s not dwell on the nonsense for too long—what does any of that actually have to do with my ban? If I work at Ford, am I suddenly forbidden from recommending a specific Ford model just because I know it's a better ride than whatever other car some random user is planning to buy?

And what about everything else? Surely there isn't only that one thing left for you to comment on.

You’re completely missing the point here—whether the claim is true or false doesn't even matter; it isn't proof of anything (much like the previous statement I included just to illustrate the point...).

What about everything else? You're dodging the actual discussion... we both know the moderator overstepped, and now you're all just going to sweep it under the rug...

This is the specific part I want to dig into:

If I work at Ford, am I forbidden from recommending a Ford model to people, even if I know for a fact it outperforms the other car a forum user is planning to buy?

First off, you didn't get banned for all of this at once. You just accumulated too many points and eventually hit a one or two-time ban. You weren't banned for every single individual post. So please, stop talking nonsense. Try to actually understand how the point system and warnings work.

Yes, you're constantly poking people, and no—I'm not digging up posts from two or three months ago.

Mark hasn't reached out? Are you serious? original post : reddit.com/thread Quote

Regarding the advertisement issue: the user asked about Alice or AT&T; they had zero interest in Verizon. Yet, you kept pushing Verizon. Since you mentioned you work for Verizon (whether that’s true or not doesn't matter to me, it was your own post), I consider it an ad. In any other thread where someone asks about providers generally or specifically about Verizon, you've jumped in without being warned or having your posts deleted.

In the Verizon thread, I explicitly warn people not to post one right after another.

And you just keep doing the same thing. original post : reddit.com/thread Quote

And you didn't get banned for that either; you just had active points from before you were finally banned following the warning for KPP.

Moving on...

According to the rules:
  • If you receive a warning or a thread is closed, first reach out to a moderator via private message for clarification, or check KŽ - PDF. Internet, and only then go to PŽK.

It's clearly laid out here where you can file an appeal, but you didn't care about any of that; you just wanted to spam the Verizon thread. original post : reddit.com/thread Quote
Just so two posts pop up that have absolutely nothing to do with Verizon... right.

The same goes for checking this PDF. Even though there's a global notice explaining how to file appeals here, you ignored that too.

Yes, I am constantly picking at things, and no... I don't think I'm digging up posts from two or three months ago..

Regarding the advertisement, the user was asking about Alice or AT&T; they had zero interest in Verizon, yet you kept pushing Verizon, especially considering you claimed to work for them (whether that's true or not, it doesn't matter to me... it's your own post), so I consider it an ad. In the rules:
  • if you receive a warning or a thread is closed, first contact the moderator via private message for further clarification, or check the Community Guidelines - PDF. Internet, and only as a last resort the Appeal Process.

It's clearly stated here where you can file an appeal, but you didn't care about that at all, preferring to just spam the Verizon thread
just to trigger two posts that have absolutely nothing to do with Verizon... honestly..

Similarly, checking this PDF—even though there's a global announcement stating where appeals are opened—you didn't bother with that either..

Insults? You are more than welcome to report those private messages..

I'm heading off to get ready for a wedding now, and I don't feel like arguing with you here.
Let the Smod decide on your "bans."

The fact is, I earned those points for a reason; I wouldn't have accumulated them if they didn't exist...

Me, constantly picking at things? Perhaps my posts bother you, because we both know why you're waving that moderator's baton at me—it isn't for any legitimate reason, but because I proved to you that you are misinforming or lying to people; essentially, you're deluded because you actually believed that information was correct...

What’s with this constant post-striking? Your links aren't even broken.

I’d compare your style of forum moderation to real life. If you were a cop on the street, you’d be pulling me over for speeding... when I was doing 49-33 miles mph in a 50 zone...

Now I see all the spamming happening in the Verizon thread! Did I actually answer the guy's question? Did he even say thanks? Where else am I supposed to find the info I asked for there? Post it in the Business section?
