The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

I absolutely loved this movie because it’s just so unconventional. It dodges all those tired clichés, avoids a predictable plot, and doesn't fall into the trap of making characters purely good or evil.
When you realize you're watching a story about two boys in Afghanistan directed by an American, there's plenty of room for some real tension.
Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised. It wrecked me emotionally, but it’s such a beautiful, well-told story that I'd recommend it to anyone.
