I truly appreciate all the help you've provided.
Andrew Jones12 said:Coughing is just a reflex to clear out blocked airways. You mentioned having these fits followed by shortness of breath; that could easily be the aftermath of a viral infection. However, you didn't mention any typical flu symptoms, like a fever or a stuffed-up nose... I don't know if it's a dry cough or if you're bringing anything up. A dry cough without other viral symptoms is often asthma, lung irritation from smoke, or even a foreign object. If you are coughing something up, it might be a virus—maybe a mild fever you haven't noticed? Could be bronchitis. Look, I'm no doctor, but go back and tell them the cough hasn't changed and is actually getting worse. Heh, they should probably order some actual tests at that point.😉
Well, thank you for that insight... though it does leave me wondering about the smoke aspect. When you mention irritation from smoke, are you suggesting that even a non-smoker could experience this from breathing in ambient smoke, or is that something that typically only happens to active smokers? As for the asthma, I'm honestly not sure; I don't believe I've ever dealt with anything quite like this before.😕
Well, I see that the initial question has already been addressed, though my own symptoms feel somewhat distinct from what was described. Throughout the day—most frequently during the morning and afternoon hours—I experience several brief bouts of coughing. It isn't quite a choking sensation, but rather that after a few coughs, I find myself feeling slightly short of breath. It’s as if catching my breath takes just a little more effort than usual.
I have already made two separate trips to my primary care physician. During that first visit, I was prescribed some tablets, but they didn't provide even the slightest bit of relief. After a week passed and the coughing persisted, I returned to the clinic. This time, I was given two bottles of cough syrup. While the syrup offered a small amount of comfort initially, I can feel the cough starting to worsen again. My doctor suggested that this might possibly be related to my sinuses, but she seemed quite uncertain, which has left me feeling rather anxious about the whole situation.
I would be incredibly grateful if anyone could offer some insight or advice as soon as possible!
Thank you.
