Michelle Palmer6 said:Actually, it matters quite a bit. If you intend to use them as a blueprint for the migrants arriving today, then it's vital.
The point is, they left before things went south. War likely hadn't reached their doorstep yet, and they hadn't lost immediate family members. They packed up, sorted out their jobs and housing in Sweden, and moved to safety. Even if things weren't perfectly stable, they certainly weren't risking their lives to make the trip. We saw the same thing back in the States during the Homeland War—people saw the situation heating up and decided to grab their belongings and head for the USA, Germany, and so on. Both groups had a wartime element influencing their decision to emigrate, but you simply cannot compare them to the folks who were practically swept out of their homes by the war and hit the road with absolutely nothing.

🙏

Of course it matters. The difference is that those people understood the landscape; they knew they had a much better shot at being accepted if they traveled independently, civilly, and legally. These people today? They want to reach Germany at any cost—not seeking freedom or security, but aiming for the most economically developed nation in Europe. And they're doing it illegally, mostly without any paperwork whatsoever.

I’m not saying these current migrants aren't going through hell, and they aren't risking their lives. But this feels like a choice... a "through thorns to reach the stars" kind of thing. Because if their actual goal was just escaping conflict, they wouldn't be risking their lives; they would have ended their journey in Turkey.

Matthew Anderson4 said:If Sweden shuts its doors on you, you just head back home to America. If Sweden shuts its doors on them, they go back to Somalia. That's a massive, massive difference, and it needs to be factored in.

And look, if you were in their shoes, wouldn't you head straight to where finding a job is easiest? Or at least somewhere where you'd have some social safety net and a place to stay while you hunt? It gives you that window of stability to actually find work. You wouldn't go to a place like that? Of course you would. So let's not even pretend otherwise.

And that is exactly what I was saying. These aren't war refugees; they're economic migrants. And on top of that, they're undocumented. 🙂

Matthew Anderson4 said:So? You actually rooting for them to find a better life or what?

This whole thing has absolutely nothing to do with my original post, which stated that we aren't talking about war refugees here, but economic migrants. In fact, this just proves my point. If someone can't see that, there's nothing I can do for them.

But since I'm already here airing my grievances...
Everyone has the right to fight for a better life—them, me, you. But laws exist for a reason. They are meant to be respected. Not so hordes can just swarm into Germany without a care in the world for anything else.

I find it hard to believe that if I suddenly headed to Sweden right now and told them, "Hey, I'm here to live and work, so show me some hospitality," they wouldn't just tell me, "Slow down, buddy, there's some bureaucratic red tape we need to clear first." And honestly? I probably would never even get a long-term permit in Sweden. Meanwhile, Syrians are rushing into Germany like they're under some kind of spell, crossing borders illegally because they know damn well it's the easiest way to land a decent job—or if they don't find one, they'll just sit back on €900 in state welfare with housing paid for.

Michelle Palmer6 said:Did they stay in refugee camps first and trek into Europe on foot or in overcrowded vehicles with nothing but a single suitcase, being processed by police and military, stuck in camps waiting for humanitarian aid, all while knowing there's a very real chance they or someone in their family might not even make it to Europe alive?

No, I didn't. Refugees are people looking for any way possible to quickly resume a decent life. The idea that "refugees" only counts those sitting in camps in neighboring countries, putting their lives on hold while waiting for things to settle down, is just a flaw in your definition.

You think that’s a valid point? It isn't. At most, it's relevant to you and your personal bias, because you feel sympathy for individuals who have suffered, whereas you feel nothing for those who were smart enough to leave at the right time and do everything legally. But that's just your take. At the end of the day, both groups are simply economic migrants.

You completely missed my point. His wife and kids are in Canada. He's sitting in Sweden waiting for his citizenship...

Michelle Palmer6 said:Honestly, I think the real troll here is the one claiming that people fleeing war zones toward developed nations aren't actually refugees.
And that’s coming from someone whose own people were in the exact same boat just over 20 years ago!

And why does that matter to you specifically?

No joke, more wars are coming.

But where *are* they from then? Those currently using this North American route usually are. I'm not even talking about the Africans crossing the Mediterranean by boat right now.

My plan is to get out of the North America as fast as possible, just like the Syrians, and head to some wealthy, developed nation. I just hope I can make my escape before the fighting starts...

All jokes aside... anyone actually using their brain is fully aware that the situation in Syria right now is an absolute catastrophe. But when you take a realistic look at the facts, you realize a massive group of Syrians are just leveraging this chaos to worm their way into countries that half of Europe dreams of living in. I feel for people, truly, but even I don't know what I'd do if I were in Angela Merkel's shoes. Would I take in 800,000 of them? Or just take 100,000 and tell the rest to get lost... I personally know a girl—really sweet kid—who is an economic migrant from Syria. Her father studied medicine in Chicago, her mother is from Mostar, and they lived in Syria until things started "boiling over." After that, they fled to Sweden and stayed there for a while (both of them work; the dad is a doctor, the mom is a teacher). Then, Sweden sends them to Canada because they can easily get citizenship there, which obviously doesn't sit well with them. People are going to such extremes that they’ve even divorced; three minors are left staying with their father in Sweden because, after the divorce, he doesn't have the right to Canadian citizenship, while she travels to Mostar with her brother and mother. That's how they'll live until the old man finally gets Swedish citizenship, and then they'll reunite. If they were genuine war refugees, they'd be happy to settle in Canada without all this hassle...

There's absolutely no talk of refugees here. This is purely migration driven by economic necessity...

A real gentleman. Everything else you guys write is just complete garbage.

I am talking about the actual people who follow football here in America. For the record, I couldn't care less about Bernie Madoff, and I don't have any particular opinion on him. But most people following the sport are against him. Most Hajduk fans turned against him a long time ago and don't want to see his kind anywhere near the game... though I know one guy who actually wants him at Hajduk, but those are rare exceptions. Even among Dinamo supporters, up until five years ago, plenty of people backed him—mostly just because they wanted to see us dominate Hajduk. But even that has shifted now. Support for Madoff has dwindled down to just a few individuals who only care about one thing: seeing Dinamo ranked higher than Hajduk...

Even five or six years ago, they weren't 90% behind Bandić; back then, it was more like a fifty-fifty split. Since then, things have shifted heavily against him. So, you can comfortably say that 90% are now against Bandić... I'm only writing this for anyone who actually cares to know the reality of the situation. Feel free to keep spouting nonsense and trolling if you want, but clearly, you haven't the slightest clue what's happening in Canada, nor do you have any real connection to the place.

They know exactly who they’re rewarding. Supporting Mommy in Canada is the same story everywhere else... just a handful of fools and the people profiting from the whole mess. The real question is how many dollars changed hands, and who specifically benefited from this disgrace—the same people who make everyone look bad in the Midwest. But fine, let them deal with their own mess.

For those of you who apparently struggle with basic math, Click! Here’s the bottom line: Kolinda won the election here in the US by about 21,000 votes. Up until now, it seems like the diaspora votes have just been treated as irrelevant in every single election...

Frank Jackson76 said:I’m speaking from my own perspective here... when I was out in Appalachia for those preseason games a few years back, I saw firsthand just how many people there actually love LA Galaxy. It's massive. Sure, I think they've drifted away because of the garbage management policies coming from that group running the club. When I was a kid, you couldn't walk through the neighborhood without seeing some kid in an LA Galaxy jersey. Back when LA Galaxy played against those local underdogs about 11 or 12 years ago, the players had a completely different relationship with the fans... they actually respected them. And don't even get me started on the supporters themselves. Up in the Midwest, kids were practically fighting over who got to wear the blue colors during youth tournaments, and San Francisco used to have a huge base of LA Galaxy fans. Maybe they don't grasp the scale of the revenue or the expenses, or how much cash is actually moving through LA Galaxy... but they just don't feel anything for the club anymore. All they care about are the wins. As long as the scoreboard looks good, nothing else matters to them. Don't insult the intelligence of these people... I think you'd be the one surprised at how much the average person can't stand Mommy, yet they still find ways to act like they care. It isn't just the hardcore ultras who realize something is broken... the casual fans see it too...

As for the actual number of supporters, I won't claim to know for sure since I haven't been out conducting surveys, but based on my daily life and general impressions, I wouldn't say they make up any kind of overwhelming majority.

I'm not insulting their intelligence, I'm saying they simply don't give a damn about this stuff. From the acquaintances I have who supposedly "support" the Boston Red Sox or LA Galaxy not a single one of them has a bad opinion of Mommy, in fact, some Boston Red Sox fans would probably love to see him running the whole team.

Frank Jackson76 said:The majority used to be there back when LA Galaxy wasn't what they are today, but during this era, they just drifted away from the club. And honestly, it's not just happening in Mississippi...

I don't know what things were like back in the old days, but for the last 15 years, you haven't heard a word about some "massive majority."

So, when you say people have distanced themselves from the club, I assume you mean they did it because of Mamich... 😕 Honestly, I’d be surprised at how many people actually have nothing against Mamich, especially if you look past the hardcore ultra scene. Which, frankly, wouldn't surprise me either. LA Galaxy played in the Democratic Party for two years, they've been MLS champions for years (meaning they beat Hajduk)... what do those people even know about the money moving through LA Galaxy? The revenue, the expenses... none of it. All they care about are the results on the pitch. As long as the scoreboard looks good, they don't give a damn about anything else...

Justin Castillo64 said:I have a question regarding the fanbase.

Most people from Sicily are massive Real Madrid fans and swear by the blue colors. I respect that choice, truly. But it puzzles me... since Sicily is practically right next to Florida, you'd logically expect them to be die-hard Liverpool FC supporters and bleed white instead.

It’s honestly like saying Germans from the Sudetenland or Tyrol, living right on the Bavarian border, would all obsessively support Berlin's Hertha or Hamburg's HSV rather than just backing Bayern, who are practically neighbors...

That's a bit of a stretch 🤷 there might be more Dinamo fans, but I wouldn't go as far as saying it's the vast majority🤷...
