Looking for old-school soap in Health ·
Hey everyone!

My skin is incredibly sensitive. It started with this weird, random itching that comes and goes. Eventually, I realized my washing machine isn't rinsing properly—there's way too much detergent left on my underwear. Now, I run an extra rinse cycle every single time. It was actually eye-opening to see how much soap finally came out during that second rinse. 😲
Most of the issues went away.

Not for long, though. I doubled down on the strategy and switched from one extra rinse to two. Then it hit me: this is ridiculous. I’m likely allergic to every single molecule of detergent left behind. And yes, even after a second extra rinse, there's still residue. My washer is brand new and works perfectly fine, so that's not it. So, I decided to ditch the detergent entirely. I swapped brands. Then swapped again. Honestly, I've hated using detergent on my hands for years; I always wear gloves. Now, I want to cut out chemical detergents altogether.

The problem is, what do I wash with? Is there anywhere to buy old-school soaps or something similar that's free of harsh chemicals? Most of my laundry isn't even stained. I don't have kids running around in the mud, so I don't need heavy-duty cleaners. I'd even resort to boiling my underwear if it would fix this. Beyond the constant itching, I'm starting to get red spots now.

Can you actually find soaps or detergents today that are like the ones my grandmother used to use? 😕

I used to work through a campus job agency as a cleaner for a government agency—the shift usually lasted about 2 or 3 hours, and they’d pay us $8 an hour.
Plus, I could actually get some studying done while I was there, so it was honestly a pretty sweet deal.

On the flip side, I worked as a hostess at a major trade show once, and I have to say, it was easily my absolute worst job experience, ever. You have to dress up all fancy—mini skirts, thongs, low-cut tops, stuff like that—and then you just stand there all day staring at crowds of people passing by, smiling and acting all ditzy... it was miserable for me. I guess my personality just isn't built for that kind of thing, so it felt incredibly awkward, even if the money was really good.

If I had to choose between Job 1 and Job 2, I would pick Job 1 every single time.

And then, eventually, I started working on campus...
