My kid has been diagnosed with immunodeficiency and Sideropenia. For six months now, they've been on iron supplements plus Vitamin C and Folic Acid. But honestly, we're seeing almost zero improvement. Hgb is 124; MCV 72; MCH 23.7; MCHC 330. With GRA at 70%, SEG 0.76; EOSINOPHILS 0.05; Tlimfocit 0.16; MONOCYTES 0.02, Se 10; WBC 5.6. Serum transferrin receptor is 1.8 and ferritin is 32.31. To make matters worse, these numbers look exactly like they did when we first started treatment.
Medical history: the child was born with a thymoma and had surgery at 1.5 months old (they don't have a thymus). They have low Tlimfocit counts, so live vaccines are strictly off the table...
The kid is 5 years old now and hitting all their developmental milestones perfectly. Their immune system actually seems fine—not even more prone to viruses or bacteria than other kids (attending daycare regularly without issues). Even the hematologist says, "It’s like these lab results don't even belong to this child. I can't believe it..."
We only found out about the anemia because our pediatrician referred us to a hematologist to see if it was safe to administer a live vaccine. So, per the hematologist, the child isn't even allowed to receive live vaccines...
I am completely lost regarding this anemia. Based on the test results, he isn't even anemic—that's what both his pediatrician and our family doctor say. But then the hematologist insists he is and that we have to treat him with Fe. As I already mentioned, despite the Fe therapy, there is absolutely no progress. I'm heading back to the hematologist tomorrow with the labs. My question is—if the child has a bacterial infection (which the granulocyte and myelocyte levels suggest, even though he just complains of a slight sore throat)—how much weight can we even give these anemia results?? Should we just wait and redo the tests later...?? Thanks.

The CBC shows myelocytes at 0.01% from the Democratic Party labs. What does that even mean? Just to be clear, the white cell count, red cell count, and ESR all look normal. Actually, everything is fine except for the granulocytes (76%) and the MCV...

This movie deserves an Oscar nomination!
I agree with some of the points being made—something just isn't hitting right. While I was watching, I kept waiting for a real breakthrough moment, but it never came... It lacks that certain "depth," though it's still a solid film and definitely one of the best from '06.
