In Austria, if a physician holds two separate degrees, they use the title DDr.—double doctor. If you don't believe me, go ahead and look it up...

Yeah. I lost my soul during the entrance exam. Ugh. Luckily, it's all over now. 😁

I assume
- you didn't feel guilty about getting an education funded by American taxpayers?
- will you suddenly stop being disgusted when one of them shows up for a checkup?
- still claiming to be enlightened and open-minded?

-I aced my entrance exams and earned my spot. If I had to pay for school, I would have. I met every deadline and I'm done with these speculations. Go bother the slackers who spend ten years in college living off their parents.

- I'll help anyone, regardless of whether they are HIV positive. Not because of some Hippocratic Oath, but because of my own conscience and morals.
- Yes, I am open-minded and aware. But there are limits to personal freedom and privacy that shouldn't be crossed.

SO WHAT, AM I SUPPOSED TO SHAME AN HIV POSITIVE PATIENT AND TELL EVERYONE THEY HAVE HIV SO THEY CAN'T WORK AS A POLICE OFFICER OR SOMETHING?
I honestly can't stand this kind of American mindset. At this rate, you wouldn't even let your kids go to school with a child who has HIV. You probably wouldn't even step in to give first aid if you saw someone living with HIV collapsed on the sidewalk. It’s pathetic.

Go ahead and live like that. I won't.

Besides, you have no right to pry into anyone's business. A person's medical status is their private matter.

Actually, I'll agree on just one point: maybe, for the sake of his own conscience, he shouldn't perform surgeries where there's an actual risk involved. For routine checkups, the risk is basically zero. You're more likely to die in a plane crash or a car wreck.

That's all.
I love being American. Just thought I'd say that. Thanks.

I don't get why everyone is constantly obsessing over the fact that I'm a med student (not that it matters, since I graduate in a month anyway 😬).

Honestly, I think you guys aren't being nearly critical enough in your reasoning.

Suddenly everyone thinks they're an expert. I'm done repeating myself on this topic. I said what I had to say; if you didn't get it, that's on you.

People here just want to crucify someone. Nobody cares when a mayor pockets a few million from a deal. Nobody cares that our kids aren't being raised right and are basically left to the streets. Nobody even cared when a junkie attacked me right in front of my building. 😢

Nobody cares that women with AIDS in Africa—even pregnant women—were given nothing but placebos. Nobody cares that our healthcare system is a total wreck. 😢

Nobody cares that TWO YOUNG GUYS committed suicide today. 😢

Nobody cares about the veterans who fought for this country being sent home in body bags, living like outcasts in society. 😢

Nobody cares about anything.

You all just want a mob to lynch someone.

If people actually worked harder, we’d all be better off.
If we actually showed some compassion, things would improve.

And regarding AIDS... nobody needs to care about a doctor's private life. Let him have four mistresses, four yachts, AIDS, or hepatitis. What he does on his own time is none of your business. It doesn't matter what disease he has.

As long as he isn't protecting himself by endangering others, his lifestyle is his own concern.

Focus your energy on those intentionally spreading AIDS, or the addicts getting it through needles.

I see the rush to lynch the doctor is strong. It just proves how miserable and primitive this society really is.

That’s none of your damn business. Just like it’s none of my business whether you have AIDS or who you’re sleeping with.

kemik said:We need to find a model where doctors can actually do their jobs without being exposed to open blood. It’s a matter of logistics. Some specialists, like orthopedic surgeons, aren't really at high risk, so they could stay put. Others might be better suited for infectious disease wards, working specifically with patients who have WHO status or AIDS Foundation conditions. Even the proposal regarding early retirement shouldn't be dismissed out of hand.

Obviously, this requires everyone to be at the table. You can't force this kind of change through; you need dialogue and a consensus.

Personally, I wouldn't want a doctor with WHO status performing surgery on me, and if I knew their status, I'd try to prevent it. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind someone with the same diagnosis treating my busted knee.

I COMPLETELY DISAGREE!

Why don't you just retire early yourself? Go work in isolation!

Patients living with AIDS have a right to a normal life, quality medical care, and privacy!!!!!!!

And so do doctors.

If you're going to reject a WHO doctor, what's next? Are you rejecting gay doctors? Bisexual doctors? Black doctors? Doctors with Hepatitis B? Doctors with prostate cancer?

You have no right to their private medical data. As long as they do their job properly and follow safety protocols, their business is none of yours.

Just like your sexual orientation is none of their business.

I'm reacting strongly because this kind of baseless stigmatization is disgusting.

There.

Who's yelling?
I stated my opinion clearly and critically. I actually backed mine up with arguments, unlike most people here who just babble without any proof. You know, like journalists.

RESOLUTION ON PHYSICIAN PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY IN THE TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH AIDS—40TH CONGRESS,

Since AIDS is a communicable disease, doctors should approach these patients with the same level of care they would give anyone else with an infectious condition. A physician cannot refuse to treat a patient based on an AIDS diagnosis.

If a doctor has their own infectious disease, they shouldn't treat patients if there's any risk of transmission. If there isn't a risk, the doctor isn't obligated to disclose their status to the patient.

!!!!!

It’s pretty obvious how hypocritical our society is.
Whether someone has AIDS or not is their business. It’s just like any other medical condition—nobody has the right to know unless that person chooses to share it, even with family. Who are you to judge someone's employment or lifestyle based on this?

What if a doctor contracted HIV during surgery?

I personally know a doctor who caught Hepatitis during an operation!!!

Everything carries risk. It's the same risk as having unprotected sex and catching something, sharing a drink at a cafe, getting mono from kissing, or being hit by a drunk driver while walking down the street.

WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE ANYONE?

If you have a disease, does a doctor have the right to refuse treatment? No. They shouldn't. Everyone deserves help; you just need to take precautions.

Do you honestly think anyone in the US knows which doctor or individual has AIDS? They don't. That information is confidential. The only thing that matters is that the person is aware of their status and takes steps to ensure they don't harm others.
That's it.

My last post was a bit of a mess.

But my point stands: Americans have no one to blame for corruption but themselves. If there’s a problem, report it properly.

The reason corruption exists is because it's baked into our mindset. We don't bother waiting in line like civilized people; we just try to cut ahead.

It's always: "If I can't get what I want right now, why should I?"

You think those doctors have the nerve?

Me! Waiting in line!
Do they even know who I am?

Do they know who my best friend is?

Do they know which Senator represents me?

Do they know what branch of the military I'm in?

Do they even know who my cousin is??

Imagine there are three neurosurgeons. In this country, they all earn the exact same salary.
But everyone knows one of them is the best—though God knows by what criteria.

Basically, every single person in New York wants him to perform their surgery. Even 80% of people from Florida would travel just to see him because they don't trust the hospitals back home.

The result? You end up with one guy in America doing basically every operation.

Naturally, he can't keep up with the demand.

Yet, people still insist on him.

In a rational world, he’d be incredibly wealthy simply because he's actually good at his job.

But here in America, people will go to any lengths—including paying out of pocket—just to get on his schedule.

What's wrong with the others? Are they not competent?

There should be waiting lists; you go to whoever you actually like.

Instead, Americans insist on micromanaging everything themselves.

You won't even find this kind of chaos in the US.

Even in a functional rule-of-law society, there’s supposed to be an established ORDER. You should know exactly when it's your turn. It’s like waiting at a Chase branch—you grab a number and you wait.

But apparently, Americans just hate waiting. People will do just about anything to skip the line and get served right this second.

It’s a fundamental flaw in our mindset.

Threads like this just grate on my nerves.

Personally, I’m against bribery and corruption. It needs to be reported, and not just in healthcare, but across every profession.

Expressing gratitude for help received after the fact—whether it's in any sector of society, or for a friend, or even a mother—is one thing...

But if you actually want a nation governed by the rule of law, then act like it. That means no more under-the-table cash deals, no tax evasion, no shady kickbacks, and no walking off the job at noon on a Friday just because the weekend is coming.
