Common Cold in Health ·

I haven't dealt with a cold in years. I keep waiting for one to hit... but it just won't happen.😉

Don't say it twice. I was bragging to everyone about how I hadn't caught a cold since 2000—and then, well, look what happened. Just my luck.😁

My husband—he went years without a single cold, too—finally came down with a fever this summer. It just wouldn't break. He finished a whole course of antibiotics and still felt terrible. His doctor wrote him a referral for an infectious disease specialist, just to be safe. We showed up at the clinic, and the second they stamped his paperwork—boom—"Emergency Case." Admitted immediately. Mononucleosis.

The virus was probably just lurking in his system until his immune system finally dipped, and then it struck. Interesting enough, I didn't catch it.

Tylenol helps manage the symptoms, but once I see my temperature creeping past 99.5, I’m heading straight to bed—no exceptions. Three blankets, two pillows, plenty of hot tea, and constant changes of clothes just to make sure I don't lie there in damp sheets. Basically, my partner and I have perfected the art of "sweating out" a fever in no time.

This past weekend, a virus finally caught up with me after a long dry spell. I spent all Saturday hovering around 101.5 or 102, just drifting in and out of sleep, and by Sunday, I felt fine. I stayed in bed through Sunday just to be safe—even though people say you should rest for a full week, I was back on my feet by Monday. I've never been one for taking sick days unless it's absolutely necessary.
