What's your ideal weight? in Health ·
Douglas Ramos2 said:I mean, come on... if we all had the exact same bone structure, maybe those metrics would actually make sense. Honestly, things like BMI are pretty much nonsense... The only thing that really matters is how healthy you feel and being happy with yourself.😘

I wouldn't go that far—it’s not complete garbage. There’s actually a pretty huge gap between the low and high ends (like 18 to 24), so plenty of people feel great anywhere in that range. I'm hovering near the top end right now at a 23, so I definitely feel a bit heavy 🙂 even though I'm technically still in the "healthy" zone
And let's be real, given my build and my age, there is zero chance I'm ever hitting that lower limit. I think I drifted away from that number back when I was twelve.

wannabenot said:So, what kind of symptoms actually get you a referral from the doctor for testing?

wannabenot, honestly, just feeling mentally drained or anxious is enough reason to suspect your thyroid and go get checked out.

fadedhound69 said:At first, I felt this constant choking sensation and was totally convinced it was just anxiety. Then, I ran into my doctor at a local Starbucks and he actually noticed my thyroid looked swollen! I went in for hormone tests and everything came back "normal," even though I had all the classic signs of inflammation and hyperthyroidism. My endocrinologist insisted nothing was wrong, even after an ultrasound. Luckily, I kept those records because today, every specialist who looks at that ultrasound agrees it was definitely inflammation. It took another three or four years of dealing with hypothyroidism and high TSH before I finally got a real diagnosis. Once I switched doctors, they caught it: Hashimoto's. Seriously, if you think something's off, find a GREAT endocrinologist or radiologist and demand an ultrasound.

You’ve gotta get an ultrasound even if you aren't feeling it, because honestly, your hormones can look totally fine while your kidneys are actually struggling behind the scenes.

😲 😕 😲
So, when your levels hit rock bottom, are you actually gonna take an antidepressant just to fix your hormones or what?
Look, the word "antidepressant" pretty much tells you everything you need to know. It’s meant for depression and those other mental health struggles you're likely dealing with because of your thyroid issues. But let's be real: an antidepressant isn't going to cure you. It might knock down a symptom here or there, but like everyone else already pointed out, it is definitely not a magic fix.

Fool, go see a doctor... just trying to comfort you because I can feel something's up too, even though I don't have any knots myself!🙂

Nicole Allen10, are you heading to the hospital for a checkup or for surgery? Either way, I’m crossing my fingers for you! Let me know how it goes

Nicole Allen10, I’m not even arguing—there’s nothing to argue about! I just totally don't get you. I know exactly what hyperthyroidism feels like. Honestly, I still didn't catch your drift: were you saying someone in another thread mentioned having a nodule and an overactive thyroid and they've just been dealing with it for 10 years?? Because usually, if you have an overactive thyroid and a nodule (you'd have to see what kind and how big it is, obviously), people don't just sit around waiting 10 years to get surgery... But whatever, it doesn't really matter to me to keep talking about some random person I've never even read before. I don't know what their deal is.

Nicole Allen10 said:@ fadedhound69 you totally misread me because I said this happened *after* my first biopsy, which means I actually had two done. And honestly, I have no clue if the size they left out of the report matters much (sorry if I'm wrong!). To me, the big news is that I'm getting it removed
instead of living with it for 10 years like I thought I read on that other thread. And yeah, my thyroid is definitely overactive—not sure what you meant by that. Anyway, it doesn't matter, a friend is giving me some Xanax to help me get through until my surgery, which I'm hoping happens next week. Dealing with my dad passing away lately has just been one massive extra stressor.

I told you I was reading up on it, but it’s hard to follow you sometimes, so I might have missed a beat. Usually, with benign nodules, the size is the main thing since they don't take them out unless they get huge. And yeah, I meant your thyroid is working overtime, but I wasn't sure if you were trying to calm your thyroid down or your nerves. I didn't see anything about living with it for 10 years either 😕
I am so sorry about your dad and I really hope you hang in there until the surgery... regardless, I'm wishing you nothing but the best 😘

Nicole Allen10 said:Man, Charlie, you are seriously having a rough time. Are you going to be stuck waiting forever for that puncture?

😲
Look, I’m just being real with you—if I were in your shoes, I'd tell you that your situation is actually way worse than Charlie's, but I'm not you
so I'll just say this: this whole post is honestly pretty terrible.🙂

Charlie said:I’m honestly terrified. My hormone levels are technically "normal" right now, but I’m just waiting on my antibody results. This thing I have has irregular edges and looks way too much like cancer
I haven't even had the biopsy yet, and I feel like I'm going to pass out before they even get to me. 😢

Why are you convinced it's cancer? The ultrasound showed a goiter—likely Hashimoto's thyroiditis. You’ll probably end up with hypothyroidism and positive antibodies eventually anyway. Honestly, hyperthyroidism is a much bigger headache! Just get that biopsy done ASAP and try not to spiral. That lump is most likely nothing, and since Hashimoto's involves antibodies attacking the gland, there's a chance it might even shrink on its own. And if it stays too big, they'll just take it out.

Nicole Allen10 said:They actually found a nodule during my first biopsy, though they didn't specify the size. So, I'm heading in to have the right lobe removed. I'm using a family connection to skip the line because there's no way I'd wait until February given their schedule. My thyroid activity is already ramping up, so I'm wondering if there's anything I can take to calm things down before the surgery in a week or two. Not sure if I phrased that right, but whatever, hope this makes sense!

I don't think you worded that quite right 🙂 what exactly is "ramping up"? What are you trying to calm down? Is your thyroid overactive? If they haven't prescribed anything to slow it down, you probably don't need anything. Just hang in there a bit longer 🙂 but I'm confused why you're going in for surgery without getting a biopsy or having them note the actual size of the nodule in the report... (maybe I missed something since everyone started jumping onto different topics)
