Jeans recommendations? in Fashion ·
George Taylor28 said:Greetings,
I’m on the hunt for some skinny jeans—not the "ultra-skinny" kind that look like they were painted on, just a decent slim fit... size 30 to 36 in men's...
Does anyone know if these actually exist somewhere in the wild?
I’ve been scouring ASOS and practically buying out their entire inventory at this point...

Check out Peek & Cloppenburg.
They have a huge selection of brands and styles.

Paul White9 said:Plazma was basically the go-to snack over there in Mexico, and I bet people ate way more of it. It’s just like how Nutella was the staple while we were all fighting over Kinder stuff here. Or how you’d have Gavrilovic pâté locally, whereas Kekec was the big thing for the Canadians.

Personally, I hadn't even heard of Plazma until people started talking about it recently.

I'm definitely more of a Plazma and Nutella person myself
coming from that side of the border😁

from the Hershey's line—Batons (if I'm remembering the name right)
Aaron Harris2 said:Personally, I think Plazma Biscuit is a phenomenal product, and while I suppose you could argue for Housewife... fine, if you must.
But considering the era we are talking about and this specific region, both are absolute science fiction.
The mere fact that they are still dominating the market today speaks entirely for itself.

A house isn't a home without Plazma 🙂

Man, I remember being obsessed with Plazma soaked in milk... you know, that perfect middle ground where it's half-soaked and half-crunchy. 🙂
And don't even get me started on when I find some extra toasted ones. Absolute heaven!
Paul White9 said:I used to make my own homemade kefir too. And honestly, it’s delicious.
The real headache for me was managing the yeast growth during fermentation. You have to find this perfect sweet spot between the culture and the milk to ensure that whenever you get home, you actually have kefir you enjoy, rather than something that's turned aggressively sour and undrinkable. Plus, as the cultures grow, you constantly have to scale up the amount of milk until you eventually separate them out to bring the levels back down. Another issue I ran into was timing; if I got stuck at work and couldn't make it home on schedule, the kefir would over-ferment and become way too acidic. In practical terms, the production process is just too volatile to get consistent results. If I were some housewife stuck at home all day, I could probably weigh out the cultures and use a stopwatch to hit the mark every single time, but for someone with a life, it's tricky.

How are you guys handling this?

For me, it’s a much simpler routine—I make a batch once a week using about half a gallon of milk. I let it sit for 48 to 72 hours because I personally prefer it thick and on the tart side. I basically eyeball the timing based on the room temperature and whatever's happening outside (like, it goes faster in the spring or summer...). I just lift the cloth covering the jar, take a sniff, give it a shake, and call it a day. (The stronger the smell, the better I think it is.) 🙂
When I notice the culture has gotten a bit too massive, I’ll toss a little bit or give it away (though that doesn't happen all that often). There seems to be a sort of equilibrium where a certain amount of culture stays perfectly balanced within that half-gallon. I don't know quite how to put it... it's almost like it hits a plateau where the growth just slows down significantly.

I've been taking Femoston 2/10 for a little while now—just a few days, actually—and yesterday, for the first time, the pharmacist at the counter looked me dead in the eye and goes, "Are you taking magnesium? You have to." It totally threw me for a loop because, honestly, nobody has ever mentioned that to me before.
Anyone else dealt with this? 🤔

ironharbor45 said:I have this vegan friend who is absolutely obsessed with plant-based food—honestly, a bit intense—so I end up scavenging some of his meals every now and then. Usually, though, I just eat whatever, mostly sticking to the classic comfort foods you'd get from an American grandma or mom's kitchen.
Today, based on a suggestion, I finally tried bulgur. To me, it feels pretty similar to rice, and I actually like using it as a side dish or throwing it into a salad.
If anyone has any good ideas for what goes well with bulgur, or if it's even worth eating regularly, please weigh in...

👍

a few thoughts

MEATBALLS
/either veggie style or mixed with ground beef or tuna, for example.
Just cook it according to the package instructions, let it cool down, then grate in some carrots or zucchini... use whatever spices you're feeling (mint, basil, parsley), salt, pepper, chili... add egg, meat, or tuna... mix it all together—if it feels too soft, throw in some breadcrumbs. Then shape them and either pan-fry them or bake them in the oven until they're set.

also, check this out, it's a cool idea

''Risotto'' style / Salad
Briefly sauté the bulgur in some oil; then pour in broth, water, or wine and let it simmer for about 5 to 8 minutes. You can toss in clams, meat, or whatever else you fancy—basically treating it like a risotto. Or, you can just let it cool once it's cooked and toss it with lemon zest, olive oil, salt, and pepper... maybe some cucumber and tomato for a veggie vibe.

Flu shots [PLEASE READ FIRST POST!] in Health ·
You can just order it from a local pharmacy

Regarding the cost—it’s all over the place. I'm seeing some sites saying it's around $15, while others are quoting closer to $100, which feels like a massive gap.
Anyway, if I were you, I'd just head down to the drugstore and ask them how they handle the whole process firsthand.

That is, unless they already fall into one of those high-risk categories where things might be different.

I started taking Femoston 2/10 Mg because I’ve been dealing with secondary amenorrhea—basically, my period just decided to stop showing up—and I’m currently six days into the regimen.

If any of you have gone through this:
- When should I actually expect my period to kick in?
- Is there any chance these could trigger insomnia or breakouts?
Sauna etiquette and tips in Health ·
I absolutely love hitting the sauna, and I’ve got some downtime coming up soon to get my sweat on—but there's a catch. My blood pressure tends to tank pretty fast when I'm in there, which leads to that nasty dizzy feeling, or even those moments where everything just starts going black.
Any tips on how to stop that from happening?🕺

boldnomad45 said:Can I just go to my primary care doctor and ask them to give me the shot? $6.75It's not much. But I've never been vaccinated before, and I've heard you can get sick from the vaccine itself. Is that actually true?
Thanks.

Yeah, absolutely. 👍

rustymason82 said:Do asthma patients have a right to free vaccinations? I catch the flu quite often, so I certainly should, yet last year my doctor refused to vaccinate me, claiming I wasn't eligible for the free program. It wasn't a matter of money for me, but I simply refuse to be treated like I don't know my own health status. So, I went straight to the local Health Institute instead, and they vaccinated me without any issues—they didn't even ask for paperwork proving my asthma diagnosis.

Here’s the breakdown of who is recommended to get vaccinated—chronic asthma is definitely on that list, though it isn't free:
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/prevent/index.html

The cost is roughly $20.

Grain intolerance in Health ·
A few years back, I sat through this really intense lecture by a top-tier gastroenterologist who broke down three distinct issues: gluten allergy, intolerance, and celiac disease. She went deep into it—distinguishing between specific symptoms, how often they actually show up, and how to spot the differences.

Now, celiac disease is pretty easy to prove with testing, but trying to draw a hard line between an actual allergy and just being intolerant? That’s a much murkier territory. Plus, the actual prevalence of these things in the general population is incredibly low.

Regardless of the science behind it, I think it’s great that you followed your gut and figured out what works for your own body. 😉
Yeah, they’ve actually developed these continuous birth control pills you take every single day of the year—though I’m not entirely certain if they’ve cleared the regulatory hurdles over here in the States yet—alongside the more standard cycle where you take them for twelve weeks and then have a seven-day break, which basically works out to four cycles a year. That second option has been available in the US since about 2016.

If my memory serves, the formula is a combination of estradiol and levonorgestrel.

swiftbear86 said:Advil is just ibuprofen at its core.
In the States, you'll see it sold under various names like Neofen, Nurofen, Ibustar, Ibuxin, or Rapidol...
Since we have plenty of registered medications here with the exact same active ingredients, the authorities won't approve an emergency import. And as far as I know, none of the legitimate suppliers bother ordering from the USA; they mostly pull their stock from the EU.
So, what makes Advil actually any better than the huge pile of other ibuprofen options out there?
It really comes down to the dosage—basically, how strong the stuff is. Over here, you can grab 200mg or 400mg doses over the counter, but anything stronger requires a doctor's prescription.

and Advil comes in 200mg doses too
