Bone Marrow Donation in Health ·
Carl Thompson6 said:Hey there! Does having an autoimmune disease affect bone marrow donation? Like, can someone still be a great candidate regardless of their diagnosis? Also, does weight matter if you're under 110 lbs? I’m assuming not, but I figured I’d ask since I know you can't, say, donate blood if you're under 110 lbs.

Sorry for the late reply, just seeing this now, but I wanted to drop an answer here so it's available for someone else down the road.😁

I have Hashimoto, which is an autoimmune thyroid condition, and because of that, they wouldn't even let me sign up for the registry.

When you're filling out the screening forms for the registry, they dig into your medical history, and the second they spot an autoimmune issue, it's an automatic rejection.
My aunt saw how crushed I was and asked for my specific diagnosis, thinking maybe they might overlook some minor stuff, but once you mention Hashimoto, you might as well forget about it.

She did mention some search option right at the start—something she said is supposedly only available to pregnant women through her health plan. Apparently, if I wanted to use it, I’d have to pay out of pocket too. But honestly, is it even really necessary? It seems like just an extra thing if I felt like it, you know? :/

They wouldn't even renew my prescriptions because I hadn't brought in my test results, which is how they decide what kind of meds to write me, so it's honestly pretty bizarre to me that they don't keep a tighter grip on all this! If I were in your shoes, I'd either just stop taking them entirely or go find a different doctor to get a second opinion!

Honestly, I’m just glad you finally got that sorted out once and for all 🙂
James Taylor69 said:Lonegull81, it’s awesome they were willing to give it to you without a prescription. I just hit up a few pharmacies and they wouldn't budge. Looks like I’ll have to take a break...

That was at the CVS over on Nehajska. The girls there told me I could even get a refund if I brought the prescription in within like ten days... kind of like buying on "credit," though I guess it probably depends on what pills you're popping.

I thought I could just walk in and get a private prescription, but when I stopped by an office yesterday, they looked at me like I had landed from Mars. Am I dealing with a bunch of jerks, or is it actually impossible to get a private prescription like that?

Look, I once missed my refill window entirely and just walked out with a new pack at full price—totally fine, no prescription required. I'm on Lindynette 20.
