I can’t shake the feeling that this whole "acting like you're healthy" thing actually impacts how fast you recover. For my recent cold, I think the real turning point was that I decided to take a proper little getaway that week. Even though there’s a beach right near my house, I felt like I had to travel just to make the trip feel worthwhile—not that I want to get into the specifics of why 😁 . Anyway, once I was finally on "vacation"—which really just meant deciding to go for a swim—I absolutely refused to let some stupid cold stand in my way. So, regardless of how I felt, I packed my things and was down at the shore by 8:00 AM.
It’s hard to say whether it was the ocean air or just my stubborn refusal to act sick that did the trick, but I suspect it was the latter. One day I genuinely thought I was a goner; the next, after getting in the water, I felt an improvement so sudden it was almost unbelievable. My recovery ended up being significantly shorter than anyone else I know who caught this same bug.
In my experience, mindset is everything. Stress and mental exhaustion play a massive role, followed by physical fitness, but most importantly, you shouldn't adopt the persona of a "patient." I have a habit of telling myself: "I'm not sick; it's just a cold." Refusing to categorize a cold as a "real illness" takes away the internal excuse to just lie down and give up.
I’m not saying you should never allow yourself a few days of bed rest, but it’s certainly better if that period is kept to a minimum.

Back in mid-July, I caught something that felt like a nasty cold. Usually, it kicks off with a runny nose, then migrates to the throat, and for some people, it hits the sinuses hard. There’s always that first day—the peak of the crisis where you feel like you might actually die—and then things slowly start to level out. By the end, all you're left with is a lingering cough that hangs around for two weeks after everything else has cleared up.
It hit me, too. But on the second day, right after that initial wave passed, I decided to head out for a swim. Believe it or not, I actually felt better afterward. Maybe it was just the ocean air, but I'm glad I didn't miss out. I also used some baby cream on my nose, which kept the irritation away; the redness never even showed up, and the sniffing stopped after three days. That meant the only thing left to deal with was the cough, which dragged on for about two weeks. I ended up finishing two bottles of cough syrup to get through it. 😲

I finally sat down to watch it last night, and honestly? After everything I’ve read on here, I was expecting way more. Maybe it would’ve been better if I hadn't spent all this time reading theories first; now I’m just left feeling a bit let down.
It wasn't a disaster, per se. It’s okay. But calling it "good"? Not quite. It’s just... middle of the road.
People are already hashing out similar arguments over in the "World Around Us" section, desperately hunting for evidence to back up claims that just refuse to surface.

By the way, this guy is a Jehovah's Witness, and honestly, what does that have to do with anything? It’s like saying a pig is a Jehovah's Witness too. You can't just conclude that a dog equals a cat simply because they both happen to be carnivores.🙄
Wait, so you're a vegan now too?! As if there's anything wrong with that. People eat healthy for a reason!!!

Not necessarily. Being vegan doesn't automatically mean you're eating healthy, just like eating meat doesn't mean you're living on junk food.

Let people eat whatever they want and just stop talking trash.

👍

Where on earth is this coming from? The guy falls squarely into the omnivore category—not some strict vegan, and certainly not a carnivore. He needs both meat and plants to get by.
Dealing with bad cramps? in Women's Health ·
I need to set the record straight regarding the vomiting. Sure, it can be linked to medication, but for some women, it happens even when there’s zero pain and they haven't touched a single pill. Personally, I don't take Ketoral—and I deal with regular vomiting long before the cramps even start. By the way, Ketoral does absolutely nothing for me; Tylenol, however, actually works. Choosing which meds to take is a personal call. If one doesn't touch the pain, try another.
And please, spare me the yogurt advice.😲 It makes me sick just looking at it, even on days when I feel perfectly fine.
I don't recall ever being stuck in bed, regardless of how much it hurts. I make it my mission to keep my days normal, no matter what I'm dealing with. I'm quite an active person; I'm rarely home unless I'm sleeping. I hit the gym three times a week. And honestly? I don't find that it lessens the pain during my period at all.

...I’m just sitting here waiting for someone to admit they didn't bother going. 🙄

I have a gynecologist right here at home, and he backed up everything I wrote above. Of course, he went on about a dozen other potential causes, too, but I wasn't really in the mood for a lecture.
And yeah, in my case, the cause was exactly what I mentioned. It's those intensified uterine contractions—the kind meant to clear out blood—which are usually the main culprit once you rule out actual diseases.

I haven't heard much about menstrual cramps having a psychological component, though honestly, most pain can be traced back to the mind if you dig deep enough. Usually, it’s just the uterus contracting like crazy to get rid of the lining. Hormonal imbalances play a role too. As for the whole "first time" thing, there’s some old theory floating around that pains actually decrease in about 20% of cases after that.
Personally, I don't buy into Reiki, bioenergy, or any of that mystical nonsense. But? I do believe in the placebo effect. If someone truly believes a certain ritual will help them, there's a decent chance their brain will make it happen.

Maybe try taking Pepto-Bismol instead. It’s a bit easier on the stomach and kicks in faster. Honestly, if you aren't dealing with vomiting, you're already doing better than I am; I seem to have the distinct pleasure of having nausea and pain as constant companions. 👎
Smoking... in Health ·
Yeah, my uncle used to say the exact same thing: "I can't quit even if I tried."
Then he ended up having a heart attack—thankfully a mild one. After that, he didn't touch a cigarette again.
The point is, he was able to do it, so you probably can too. He’d been smoking for thirty years straight and just quit overnight.
