Personally, I don't think platelet counts above 130 are cause for major alarm, provided everything else in the bloodwork looks normal. I remember when mine dipped below 100 and my doctors told me the situation wasn't even a concern anymore. A few years back, the standard range used to start at 140—I can't recall the upper limit, I was too focused on the low end.
If you're genuinely worried or feeling off—fatigue, lethargy, that sort of thing—just go see a hematologist and get a professional opinion. It certainly wouldn't hurt.🙂
I’ve been there myself—my platelet count actually hit zero. It took a round of IVIG and corticosteroids to finally get things back to baseline...
Don't sweat it too much. Your levels are within the normal range right now, which is why your doctor hasn't stepped in. That said, if you notice your counts starting to dip again, or if you see those tiny red spots on your skin that don't fade when you press them, call your hematologist immediately.
Petechiae can be serious. Usually, they’re a red flag for low platelet counts. You can tell them apart from regular rashes because they don't fade when you press on them; they just stay there. I dealt with this myself—my platelets tanked, and honestly, I barely made it out okay because my GP and the ER staff didn't know what they were looking at. If you think you're seeing petechiae, don't wait. Get to an internist or a hematologist immediately. Good luck.
