Which neighborhood are you in?
Oh, not at all. I realize I didn't clarify that earlier—I have zero intention of pursuing this professionally, in terms of competing or trying to turn a profit. I’m looking at this strictly as a way to get back in shape, pick up some new skills, and just feel better physically. I'm over in the Chelsea area, and I was actually thinking about checking out American Top Team; it's pretty close to me.
Gentlemen, please, I’m asking you not to mock me for the question I’m about to pose. I am 30 years old, and in my entire life, I have never trained in any kind of martial art. I’ve developed an interest in MMA, and I’m wondering if there is a club anywhere in the Los Angeles area that would take someone like me—someone who just wants to train a little and learn the ropes. I know, I’m clearly "old" by some standards, and I can already hear the inevitable questions: "What have you been waiting for all this time?" Honestly, it’s a bit embarrassing to be asking you this, but here we are. To be perfectly clear: I have zero prior knowledge, my conditioning is non-existent, I’m carrying some extra weight, and I’m generally out of shape in just about every way. But I have the desire, and I genuinely want to get involved with this—perhaps as a way to occupy my time outside of work. If I’ve missed the boat entirely, just tell me straight; I can handle that. But if it’s not too late, please let me know where I might look. My focus is specifically on MMA because I find the combination of disciplines to be the most compelling aspect. More broadly, is there any gym out there that actually caters to absolute, total beginners? Thanks in advance for your responses.
Hi everyone. I wanted to bring this topic back up for a moment. I'm 29 years old, and honestly, I've moved past the idea of trying to "fix" my flat feet. I just live with it. That said, I am looking to pick up some insoles to make life a little easier; sometimes when I'm on my feet for a long stretch, or when I'm playing tennis or soccer, things start to ache. It’s purely about comfort at this point. Does anyone know if there are any universal options out there that I can swap between my sneakers and my work shoes? Everything I've been digging up online seems to be hyper-specialized—custom molds for sneakers, specific ones for dress shoes, different ones for everything else—and each one costs $117. I just don't see the logic in that much spending. Any advice from those of you who have dealt with flat feet for a while? Thanks.
