Look, I’m a huge AC/DC fan myself, and honestly, I’d kill to see Angus play anytime... but man, what you’re saying about Bon Jovi is something else.
Anyway, have you ever actually seen them live?
Personally, I wasn't really feeling Sambora, but I have to tip my hat to Jon as a frontman... he's incredible.
On topic: AC/DC—their music is incredibly primitive, and the lyrics are pretty childish, but I guess that’s just the logic of rock and roll...
And when it comes to live shows, they are unbeatable...

I was there once... Richie probably just had an off night.
Even people who aren't fans have to admit their live performances are absolutely unbeatable.😁
You judge a guy just because he won't fall in line
Simply because he isn't standing where you are
But you recognize the man wearing those worn-out shoes
If you strike me, won't I bleed just like you? (You know I will)
I'm not sure what kind of stories you've heard
But you can't purchase courage with a pot of gold
A wealthy man is truly poor if he lacks a soul
Rich man, poor man, beggar man, King
All that stuff doesn't matter at all
Do you know which one's behind those eyes?
It's nothing but a mask

🙏 🙏
--

People judge you based on your bank account
Or the color of your skin
They flip through your cover
Without ever taking the time to read the pages inside
They pass judgment without a jury
Leaving you struggling to find belief
When nobody is willing to listen to your story
And even justice turns its back on you

They construct walls all around you
Then claim that you just don't fit in
Yet you still act like you have me figured out
When you don't know the half of it
I'm the beggar, and you're the savior
I'm your devil, while you're the thief
I'll stay right here until it finally clicks
That I am you, and you are me

🙏 🙏
Steven Green2 said:Look, regarding Bon Jovi... Just so we're clear, I've studied his music thoroughly, especially the older albums—the fact that I owned seven of his original CDs back in the day proves it. But I was only 14 then; I was just a kid. There's no way I'm popping one of his CDs in right now just to prove a point, but honestly, it's not worth getting worked up about. You can't argue with taste! 😉

One more thing... saying you "studied" his music makes me think you were probably just skimming the surface...
if you had actually listened closely, you'd know it wasn't just HIM, it was THEM...
Steven Green2 said:What I’m listening to right now is stuff I actually studied a long time ago, but honestly, it’s just brilliant, high-quality music. I'm not some kind of snob who limits himself to just one genre or one specific band; I can listen to pretty much anything, but I prefer to wait until I've actually heard it before I weigh in. So, it's hard to say exactly what's on my playlist at this moment... 😉

Look, let's be real... quality in art is entirely subjective.

People claim Picasso is some kind of absolute genius, but honestly? To me, it just looks like the scribbles of a sick elementary schooler. 🙄

Just because I listen to Bon Jovi doesn't mean I have narrow tastes. Honestly, I'm pretty open-minded, but whenever I put them on—or any other band I really love—it just hits different. It’s like a specific vibe wakes up inside me every single time. I guess you could say I'm hooked on a few certain bands because their music resonates with me so deeply; it practically triggers a chemical reaction.
It’s enough to say that when I’m listening to them, if a song really hits me—I'm talking a solid 13/10—and I truly lose myself in it, it means I'm listening actively. When I'm fully locked into the rhythm, the melody, and the lyrics, I actually get goosebumps.
I really hope that happened to you, and that you actually know exactly what I’m talking about...
That's pure musical euphoria. 😁 😁

I honestly couldn't care less if a bunch of failed musicians turned critics dismiss Bon Jovi as mediocre or just a passing fad—that doesn't influence what I choose to listen to. What actually bothers me is the blatant unfairness they show the band.

Back in '92, everyone was tearing Dry County apart, even though that track is absolute musical perfection. Meanwhile, they were all over November Rain.
People kept comparing those two tracks, claiming it was beneath them—as if it were somehow undignified for a one-hit wonder like Bon Jovi to even attempt writing something in that same vein.
Sometimes I just feel like venting at the lot of them... the songs don't even share a single common theme. You can see the obvious difference just by looking at the titles.
The songs are probably perfect within their own genres. Trust me, if things were different this year, they'd be sitting side by side at the top of the charts.

People love to claim that Bon Jovi is just some sugary, soft rock act—nothing more than a collection of cheesy love ballads. They couldn't be more wrong. In my opinion, they’re actually one of the few bands left that stays true to the actual spirit of rock. They balance the heavy stuff with meaningful ballads, deep life questions, and those songs with a real sense of attitude.
Early albums were mostly about love, then they shifted toward themes of everyday life, and eventually, it became a mix of both. For the last couple of years, we've seen them experimenting, so now I'm really hoping for a deeply mature album next.

Richie deserves way more credit than he gets. He’s easily one of the greatest guitarists to ever pick up the instrument.
Anyone who’s actually crossed paths with him will tell you the same thing. Even the heavy hitters mentioned in this thread about legendary guitarists have gone on record to say it themselves. Honestly, his vocal range is so insane there's really no point in even debating it. He's just a phenomenal musician, plain and simple.

David is the kind of pianist who actually visualizes the music. Think of someone like Maksim Mrvica—he writes his own solo albums, like Lunar Eclypse, and really loves to experiment.

I guess we're just getting started then.

I also really respect how the band members protect their families from the media circus. It’s impressive—Jon has been with the same woman since he was seventeen. If anyone actually knows how to write about love, it's probably him.
They’ve stayed so grounded—maybe it’s actually better that way, because if they ever really took off, they might turn into U2. Their connection with the fans is just different.
They were never at the center of any scandals; they always let the music speak for itself instead of making headlines for overdosing on some doorstep.

Look, what I wrote is just my personal take—it’s a small slice of why I dig them. Please don't take it as some kind of formal recommendation or anything like that. The guy asked for suggestions, and I was just answering based on my own experience.

You've probably noticed that I don't bother commenting on bands I don't listen to, and I certainly don't bash them either—even when I've heard plenty of their stuff. Honestly, I just feel like forcing your own taste on someone else is a total tyranny of the mind... Everyone is free and mature enough to know what actually resonates with them.
Steven Green2 said:And what exactly are you people limiting yourselves to...?!? 👎

Yeah, honestly, some people really are just narrow-minded. 🙂
Brandon Garcia95 said:Fair point, but since we're going down this road, we might as well throw Iron Maiden into the mix.

Man, just listen to some old-school Bon Jovi
or Aerosmith

Man... the good old days... back through '96... if you're interested, grab that Bon Jovi box set released in December 2004. It's got 50 tracks that never made the cut for the actual albums... and honestly, some of them are so incredibly good you'll wonder how they ever missed the tracklist. Most of it covers the Keep The Faith and These Days era, plus some 80s stuff and bits from 1998-2003—though the 2003 stuff is basically the ultimate Last Band Standing. Then again, their new album will probably feature a heavy rock version of that song anyway... it’ll really show off what Richie and David can do vocally, even if Tic gets a little overshadowed, though his job isn't singing—he's killing it on the drums. 😎

Well, we actually managed to reach an agreement with the Mexicans, only to go back on our word once Joe defends 😢

That's the ultimate must-have for anyone who actually appreciates real rock!
The music video is just as essential. 😎 🙏

All Men Are Heroes... In dreams! (Okay, they credited Sigmund Freud, but they basically signed his name to it themselves!)

The Lord didn't bring me this far just to let me down now! Especially when Richie's incredible solo kicks in. 😎 🙏

Go ahead and laugh... but seriously, give this a listen...
Just pick up the albums Keep the Faith and These Days and you'll see what I mean...

You could also check out Queen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and maybe even Foo Fighters (I've been getting more into them lately) 👍

Brian Foster2 said:Nobody is attacking you; I was just making a statement about Bon Jovi.

But it bugs me when people butt into things they clearly don't know anything about...
I'm not a huge Bon Jovi fan, but my ex-best friend absolutely loved them, so I've heard enough to make the connection.

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you!

Merry Christmas!

You didn't offend me, so don't worry about it. It’s not that deep...

I honestly don't see how that "statement" relates to Bon Jovi, nor do I really get what the statement even is, but whatever...

And the idea that I have no clue about what I'm chiming in on is interesting... I guess you assume that because I listen to Bon Jovi (among others), I don't listen to any grunge, so I can't weigh in...

Honestly, whatever. Everyone listens to whatever they want (just like me), and that's that.

Brian Foster2 said:Alright, let me suggest a truly decent musician for you!

Eddie Vedder — The guy actually called out Cobain because they released the "Vs." album (talking about Pearl Jam) without recording a single music video, whereas Nirvana filmed five or six videos for the Nevermind album. Of course, "Vs." still hit number one on the Billboard charts. Instead of chasing drugs—even after losing a ton of friends and having his old man murdered (so yeah, he was going through it)—he spent his earnings on instruments and donating to charity.
He writes songs with melancholic themes too, but man, maybe you just haven't grasped the message behind them.

p.s. don't go thinking I'm telling you to go out and get high too...

Bravo! I listen to Pearl Jam myself, though not all that much because I can't stand songs that leave you with absolutely zero hope... The talent is incredible and everything else is great, but that’s the only reason they aren't my thing...

Brian Foster2 said:oh yeah, and one more thing, damn you, Bon Jovi, damn you!

wow...
see, when I was saying I wasn't into Nirvana, I didn't come at you aggressive like this... Why don't you explain to me what exactly you dislike about Bon Jovi...
I'm pretty sure you're mostly just following the groupthink regarding Bon Jovi—just a few washed-up musicians who managed to become critics...

np The Auteurs - Asta Spumante

Exactly... they're a band that survived every single critic's attempt to tear them down while elevating everyone else...

A band that knew how to handle all the sabotage...
A band that didn't rely on cheap gimmicks...
A band that stood by Kurt when everyone else was falling apart...

A band that never chased the spotlight through scandals...
A band that protects their family and privacy from the media vultures that rip everyone else apart... honestly, that's probably why people hate them...

By the way, what’s the deal with that signature of yours?

Maybe if you popped a few too many popcorn kernels yourself, someone might start bowing down to you like that... Honestly, it’d be better to just name a musician who actually stood their ground through everything instead of looking for an escape in a bag of snacks...

"Come on people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now..."

vision 👍 feasibility 😕

That doesn't mean I don't love grunge for its vision.
(Hey, I listen to stuff that’s also more of a dream—like Imagine—but at least nobody is constantly talking about their sick minds)

Brian Foster2 said:You prefer listening to tracks about someone’s fat wallet (gangster rap, etc.), or someone’s drug problems (Britney and her crew), or maybe some guy’s digestive issues, or perhaps just songs about smashing faces and breaking bones (Limp Bizkit! and the usual crowd)... or maybe just songs about big breasts and sexy moms (Beyoncé)... lalala

The point was made ages ago, my friend, and it still stands—you're just the one who isn't paying attention.

p.s. Try reading some actual English and look up a grunge song; maybe then you'll realize you're the one losing it by talking such nonsense! 🙂

I listen to this, for example, dear 🙂

You say you don't like my kind
A better picture in your mind
No it don't matter what I say
I hear ya bitchin' when I walk away
I'll never be what ya want me ta be
You tell me I'm wrong but I disagree

It’s honestly wild how people tend to idolize those who finally broke and took their own lives... and then they turn those tragedies into these massive myths
while the ones who actually stood their ground and survived get nothing but criticism...

The whole concept behind grunge 😁 is fine in theory, but it's just not sustainable...
Besides, why should I bother listening to what people with completely fractured psyches have to say about the world today? No way...
