It’s just pure commercial fluff—and yeah, I know, I can already hear everyone yelling, "What isn't commercial nowadays?" 🙄. But look, with the latest Batman, for instance, you can actually feel a director's specific vision—that clear ambition to push the envelope and elevate the whole thing to a higher level. Even with Ang Lee's Hulk, there was this obvious attempt to step away from the usual comic book formula. This? This feels totally routine, like a product made just to be used once and then tossed aside. You can see it right in the casting—Nicolas Cage is a complete miss here, even if he’s a huge box office draw. It’s basically a "safe bet" move, which is exactly why he was picked for this, and honestly, the thought of him being involved in the new Superman... it actually makes me nauseous 🤮.
Nah, I don't buy that for a second.
The film actually had the potential to be a total banger, but man, it just completely trips over its own feet at the finish line. It’s still somewhat cool though ( the coolest part is definitely Ghost Rider’s descent down that skyscraper ). Johnny Blaze is a vibe. I wasn't really feeling the Ghost Rider look at first, but after a bit, I got used to it—it’s fine. 😬 Roxanne is great. Johnny Blaze & Roxanne have good chemistry. Blackheart is cool too. Nicolas Cage, Wes Bentley, and Eva Mendes are all alright. Matt Long ( Young Johnny Blaze ) is especially decent. Donal Logue is okay as well.
It’s that ENDING that just nukes everything 👎 The script is all over the place—sometimes it's garbage, sometimes it's passable, but by the end it's just straight-up 👎 A whole lot of it is just nonsense. Honestly, the ending ruins whatever momentum the movie managed to build up along the way.
What we really needed was an epic final showdown between Ghost Rider and Blackheart. What we actually got was basically nothing 👎 ( they looked like kids playing in a sandbox🤣 ...literally. It's actually kind of concerning ).
There's a romance running through most of the film, and honestly, it’s pretty solid. I actually liked it. The stuff that makes this movie work is the scenes between Johnny Blaze and Roxanne. (And a little bit of the Ghost Rider action). For the first half, and even heading toward the end, it actually holds up. But then the finale hits and everything just goes down the drain 👎
The movie does have some humor sprinkled in (especially during those bits with Johnny Blaze and Roxanne).
As a whole, the directing feels pretty crappy—Mark Steven Johnson clearly doesn't quite have the touch, but somehow the movie stays somewhat cool despite that.
I'd say this one is actually more interesting than Spider-Man ( 1 & 2 ).
