Struggling to sleep? Any tips? in Health ·
Noah Harris50 said:Whenever I’m stressed out and exhausted, I hit the sack thinking I'm finally gonna pass out, but then my body just jolts me awake. It’s like this sudden, violent twitch right as I'm drifting off, and it happens over and over again. Honestly, now I’m just lying there getting anxious about it—scared of the jerk itself and terrified I won't get any sleep at all when I clearly need it.
Anyone else dealt with this crap? How do you handle it?

This post is old, but I've been suffering from this same "syndrome" for a long time. It drives me to hysteria, crying, and total exhaustion. For me, it’s not just once or twice; I can literally jerk awake up to 50 times in a row, which is no joke. The first time it happened was terrifying—adrenaline kept spiking constantly while I tried to drift off until dawn. It feels like a sharp sensation in my chest that shoots straight to my head; I don't even know how to describe it. Naturally, I started fearing sleep. Even now, I dread bedtime, I hate the night, and I hate my bedroom. My therapist says it's because I feel like I'm losing control during the transition to sleep, but I can't shake it. I'll have a few calm weeks and think I'm finally over it, then it hits again—only now it feels more like a chill running through my brain or my chest, which wakes me right back up. I try relying on medication, but the day after an episode is always ruined.
I'm particularly worried because I'm starting IVF soon, and I don't know if this condition could interfere with anything. I took half a Bromazepam one night and it helped me relax enough to sleep... but man, it is absolutely terrifying.
I’m honestly glad I stumbled upon this thread. Seeing others post made me realize I wasn't the only freak who reacts this way to coffee.
It all started back when caffeine combined with stress would trigger full-blown panic attacks, but I thought I'd moved past that. Now, if I drink a cup that doesn't sit right with me, my neck tightens up like I'm being strangled, and my heart starts skipping beats in my chest. Once I figured out how to drink it properly, everything seemed fine.
But here's the kicker: when I drink green tea, the exact same thing happens, only much worse.
For example, I can have a cappuccino and be totally fine, but yesterday I had some strong black coffee at a friend's house and two hours later, all hell broke loose. I felt dizzy, nearly fainted, my heart was racing, and I felt like I was suffocating and couldn't catch my breath. After a few hours, it finally passed...
My blood pressure tends to run low, but my cholesterol is normal...
That's just my experience...
