For heaven's sake, I find SM to be just as compelling today as they ever were... in fact, they were just as excellent ten years ago!👍

And instead, we are expected to just manufacture some "worst of" disaster? 😁
It is high time, quite frankly, that we migrated this entire discussion over to the politics section...😠

I used to listen to
-new wave stuff
(think artists like Devo, The Cars, Blondie, Talking Heads, or even some early synth-pop icons)

-Nick Drake

What an eclectic mix, wouldn't you agree?...

Give me a break, I was listening to that stuff at ten years old just to fit in. I was born in Bavaria!!!!😁 😁 😁
Shouldn't this entire thread be moved over to the POLITICS section? 🙂

Back when I was sixteen 😁 : I was listening to Sisters, Depeche Mode, Joy Division, Paradise Lost, and Dead Can Dance... though, since I fall on the younger side of this group, I suppose I should clarify those were the bands I discovered around age eleven or thirteen.

I appreciate the sentiment, truly, but out of that entire list, they are the only ones who haven't quite stood the test of time, wouldn't you agree?😢

The point is what we were listening to back when we were sixteen, which is exactly what I pointed out... and the fact that I am still listening to it five years later (aside from Limp Bizkit...) certainly doesn't mean I haven't grown past that stage...

My apologies if you have "evolved" so much that you've become an entirely different person...👎

Look, lady, don't get all worked up, and please try not to take everything so personally...😎
At the end of the day, this is just an internet forum...😉
I find Justin Timberlake to be somewhat lacking in substance, yet I must begrudgingly admit that the song actually resonates with me... It is a rather embarrassing confession to make, truth be told...😳

Is this not yet more evidence that this forum serves as nothing more than a gathering place for various freaks?!!!!😁
Ryan Ruiz said:The other day, my high school started playing music during the breaks.
On the first day, it wasn't too bad—a few tracks by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink, or Jennifer L. (though I was already getting sick of them). Then, during the long break, they played some Gibbon—actually, wait, I shouldn't say that—then Oliver... but honestly, it was all just... ugh, fine, I won't change the names, but when they started blasting two Muslim songs, I absolutely lost my mind!!! Some techno-style track with what sounded like Arabic chanting in the background. It felt as if I were standing in the middle of a mosque!!!
It is an absolute disaster!
And I found myself thinking... a prestigious high school playing this kind of music—is this really where high schoolers belong? Are these the bright minds of our future? Playing such Muslim nonsense in a respected institution?!!! It is a catastrophe.
What kind of music is being played at your schools (for those currently in high school), assuming they play anything at all?

Hmmmm, there is simply no point in joining the crowd in attacking your character, but I will offer you one piece of advice: free your mind and your ass will follow... 😉

The Cult had already arrived by age 17!!!!
That was already considered an upgrade!!!!🙂

Korn
Limp Bizkit (keep in mind I'm talking about back in the day, during their first album era)
Deftones
......

Damn, I can't think of any others off the top of my head... but Korn was definitely the king of it... that much I know.👍

Hell, I really should have specified that this question is intended for those of us over 18...😁

Are you all telling me you simply stopped listening? Have you all supposedly "evolved" beyond them? 😕 😁

But that is precisely the crux of the matter, isn't it? Those formative years are when the foundations are poured. And without a solid foundation, how can one ever hope to construct a skyscraper? Although, I suppose there are the occasional structural flaws scattered about—if you consider the Sisters of Mercy to be anything other than a shaky support beam.

What were you listening to when you were sixteen? Name at least three to five bands for me!

P.S... It strikes me that those years are absolutely pivotal for shaping one's musical identity.
To be quite specific, had I not discovered these particular groups during that formative stage, my musical sensibilities would likely be far more superficial today. Instead, it was thanks to them that I began navigating the fascinating waters of postmodern and modern music.

1. The Smiths
2. Sisters of Mercy
3. U2
4. The Cure
5. The Jesus & Mary Chain
hmmmmmmm......well, if I actually find her attractive, then she clearly isn't some spineless pushover!!!!😁
