The idea of tossing aside umbilical cord blood to be used for pharmaceutical manufacturing or cosmetics is absolute nonsense. Someone is taking a life-saving medical resource and wasting it on things that don't even help people.
Umbilical cord blood is packed with stem cells. It can be frozen and utilized later to treat serious diseases in either the baby or the parents. In Germany, hospitals are required to release this blood to the parents upon request, and there are private companies where you can pay roughly $2,200 to $2,700 to have it frozen and stored for 20 years—with just a small maintenance fee after that.

Lawyers operate in a market, just like auto mechanics. Healthcare doesn't. As long as you're working for the government within the framework of a social system, you're receiving funds based on contracts with Medicare; you don't get to act like a pure free-market entity.

The government subsidized your lengthy education. You work in a hospital that you couldn't afford to build yourself—it was built by society, which means you're employees, not entrepreneurs.

Nobody cares about your whining regarding how many years you spent in school. If you aren't satisfied with being doctors, go learn a trade like an auto mechanic, or go to law school, pass the bar, and enjoy yourself. But if you want to work for a social institution, then you have to deal with the social salary of a government official.

It was tragic. She was elderly and frail, and there was absolutely nothing anyone could do about it... 😉

What’s the issue here? She requested surgery and she paid for it. These two doctors completely ignored standard medical protocols, and that negligence cost her her life. They didn't get to hide behind the bureaucracy of the American healthcare system this time, because now they're facing actual indictment.

Whether they actually face consequences remains to be seen.
