Dealing with lactose intolerance?
in Health ·
Let’s clear something up right off the bat: lactose intolerance and a milk allergy are two entirely different beasts. With intolerance, your body simply isn't churning out enough lactase—the enzyme required to break down lactose so you can actually digest it. An allergy, however, is an immune system response. That's why when you're testing for intolerance, you won't see any IgG levels showing up on the results.
The most common way doctors pin down lactose intolerance is through elimination diets, though there are other clinical methods available, such as monitoring blood glucose levels or performing hydrogen breath tests, among others. 🙂
I hope this provides at least a little bit of clarity. 🙂
