Maybe ask around, like check with the nursing staff, to see if the doc has any hobbies—painting, fishing, gardening, whatever. See if he’s into anything specific, maybe the latest Age of Empires release or some technical books. If he is, I'd say just grab him a gift card from Amazon for whatever amount you're comfortable with. He can just pick out what he actually wants when he's at the store. Honestly, the main thing is that gifting a doctor shouldn't feel like a chore or make your stomach knot up. It should come from the heart because you genuinely want to say thanks.
