Alright, Megan Reed, you aren't even part of this, but I see plenty of women—and yeah, specifically women, which is interesting because they seem to be the ones lacking any sense of empathy—who will practically worship at an altar but won't even give you a simple "hello" in the elevator. It’s like if you look suspicious, they assume you’re up to something nefarious.
Listen to this;
The other day, I saw this young woman sitting on the steps near my house with a baby—probably someone looking for spare change, she actually knocked on my door begging for cash earlier—with a little kid, maybe a year or two old. Suddenly, another toddler, about the same age, comes running toward them all smiles, just wanting to play. But then the mom—that little runner, who was busy chatting with a friend a few feet away—starts screaming her head off, lunges forward, grabs her kid, and smacks her butt, yelling, "Nooo, nooo!" She might as well have shouted, "You dirty little brat!" Honestly, what is wrong with people?!!
It honestly makes me sick, seeing stuff like this and seeing similar reactions popping up on this forum. This isn't the first time either; we’ve gone over this topic before. The loudest voices are always those self-righteous, "holier-than-thou" types who absolutely refuse to forgive anyone for a single mistake.
Anyway, I'm an idiot for letting it get to me and getting worked up. Nothing new there...

Haven't seen you in forever. 🙂

Alex 😘 I actually wanted to reach out to you first, but you beat me to it. And look, about my being all stiff and slow to react...
Spending way too much time online became a real issue for me. It turned into a full-blown addiction (and if you read what I wrote earlier, it’s pretty obvious how much I tend to get sucked into things 😉 ), so I had to take a break from the forums to cool off.

Arslan, honestly, I'm not even sure if decriminalization is actually a good thing.
I really don't know. I have a son, and of course, drugs terrify me. I know firsthand how destructive that lifestyle can be, even when people claim they're using "soft" stuff.
Maybe I overreacted, but reading all those insults and generalizations really stung. Look, I don't like drugs any more than anyone else, but we shouldn't be stigmatizing people.
Is drug use a disease or just a massive problem? To me, it feels like a disease—just like any other condition triggered by stress, grief, or misery. It hits you like a boomerang; it's a reaction to life's hardships that spirals into a medical crisis.
And some people exploit that, especially nowadays when there's so much negativity, guilt, and tragedy everywhere. Of course, not everyone involved is a criminal, but is it okay to just look the other way? Is it right to pretend we don't see it, or to do absolutely nothing when we actually have the power to change things?
Don't these broken families—the ones that basically become breeding grounds for future addicts—stem from the very way our society is built?
I'm no sociologist, so I'm just asking questions and pointing fingers here, but you don't need a PhD to see who's responsible. A healthy society needs healthy individuals, and that's where the work needs to happen. Now that everything is already in a tailspin and it's clear that prevention hasn't worked like we hoped, we have to deal with the fallout. I am definitely not in favor of giving up on anyone, regardless of their struggle. We're all part of this.

As for the government? I don't trust a single word they say.

I don't know, I'm just generally pissed off. And mentioning drugs makes my skin crawl, mostly because of everything I've personally dealt with. Then you have these "holier-than-thou" types 🙄 who think they're totally disconnected from the guy passed out in the park or the middle school gym teacher who has to hit a line before class just to function (unfortunately, I've seen that happen too). They think they're clean, but they're indirectly tied to all the misery on this absolute dumpster fire of a planet.
If you don't care at all, then in my book, that's a crime. At that point, you aren't "clean" either.

Someone already posted something pretty similar, but I don't want to go hunting for it;
If the government can get involved in selling drugs (and unfortunately, that hasn't just been a wartime thing), then they can certainly carve out some funding for recovery rooms.
In San Francisco, there’s this harm reduction program run by an association called Help where they hand out supplies and collect used gear. Look, I don't know exactly how effective it is, but isn't any progress better than just standing still?!
Speaking from experience, any kind of help for someone struggling with addiction—from a supportive word to actual concrete action—isn't just welcome; sometimes it’s literally the difference between life and death.
To the trolls who think addicts are just dirty, mean criminals: you've already said enough things that I actually agree with. I'll admit, it stung when I first read that, and my gut reaction was to fire back just as nasty. But why waste the breath? Ignorant people have always reacted out of fear, and they probably don't even realize they're just exposing their own misery with those malicious comments.
The masses, being the masses, think they're all protected. It honestly feels like stupidity is what keeps most people from ever having to face painful realities... but hey, maybe a few words will actually reach someone... 😢

Just so you know, for that lady nick-madam 😵 and all the other self-appointed moral crusaders out there: back when I was going through my phase trying every drug available—which lasted a while—I wasn't just working and paying into the system; I was paying massive amounts of tax. I spent money on more than just survival; I lived a lifestyle way above the average citizen, so my conscience is perfectly clear. Don't give me that crap about "paying into it." Besides, most addicts I know today actually hold down jobs!
Now that I'm clean and no longer part of that world, I gladly contribute to those poor souls who are social cases, whether they're using or not. I know they are products of society, just like the snobbish elites (who control my money just as much) are the exact opposite.
I'd much rather be the one giving first, whereas I only give to others because, in my value system, they are a necessary evil.
See how everything comes down to experience.
I’d suggest anyone throwing their intelligence around to take a moment to "get a grip," because life can flip on you in a heartbeat. And usually, it's the ones who were throwing stones without a second thought who end up getting hit by the bill.
Tattooing over a scar? in Health ·
So, I’ve got this old scar on my arm from when I was a kid—maybe three cm long and about a cm wide. I decided to get tattooed right over it, and honestly, for the last decade, the ink has settled perfectly fine. It looks just as solid as the rest of my skin. My only weird hiccup was that when the needle hit that specific spot, it actually hurt. The guy doing the work didn't say anything about it being an issue, though. I don't know how much that helps anyone, but I can't stop thinking about whether there's some underlying capillary issue. Then again, if it's just an old scar, why would it even matter? The real nightmare is when you wake up years later, realize you covered yourself in ink, and you're suddenly old and out of shape instead of young and fit. That's why you have to be smart about where you put the ink if you're dead set on it—pick somewhere it won't interfere with your job, or somewhere where your skin isn't going to lose its elasticity and drive you crazy later. And fair warning: once you start, it's easy to get hooked. That's why people end up going way too far.

Breakfast at Tiffany's in Movies ·
brain_cell said:Basically, they’re two people I’d despise. I’d tell him: Get a real job... Honestly, I pity people like that in real life, but in movies, I actually admire them because they are...

🙄 Look, go watch Truman, just so you realize how Breakfast at Tiffany's is partially autobiographical and his writing is definitely a "job." (I haven't seen the movie yet, but I assume you can see Capote's talent and the sheer amount of work put into creating a successful novel—it's a job.)
"She" isn't a scientist, an artist, or even "at least" a singer (which is barely a job 😕 and besides, what are blues singers? Just singers?! You generalized, so I'm asking. And she does sing, if we're being technical. Moon River 😛), but if she's a "high society woman" whom men pay for her company and sex—she isn't unemployed.
Seriously, that job has a specific name, and I think it's way harder than being a secretary or a preschool teacher.

Personally, I’d sooner despise bureaucrats locked in gray offices—you know, separated by mere partitions, hunching over from 10 to 6 under the watchful eye of some pompous, colorless boss—if I had the capacity for those kinds of observations,
But hey, I don't have the right to judge, so I won't.
And personally, I feel a certain sympathy for the outsiders who break away from the crowd, including Holly Golightly and Paul Varjak (sorry if I'm wrong, I read the book and saw the movie a long time ago; obviously more than once, but details slip your mind)
In the world we live in, love can be a rare plant. When it's missing, comfort easily becomes superficial society and its "rules," and these two vulnerable, dear souls chose the path of least resistance precisely because of their respective backgrounds... which doesn't make them any less worthy of respect, even if they were real people (I know you liked the movie, but taking these same characters and bashing them when you put them in a real-life context... that bothered me)
For Holly, characterizing a film icon who represents such a huge part of society—someone fun, sweet, gentle, and a total fashion icon—as being at "rock bottom" is at the very least tacky, if not outright malicious.👎 (Confused people who struggle with themselves and their place in the world, people who are too sensitive, people with heavy pasts but wonderful characters but zero chance... are exhausted people really "rock bottom"? Give me a break, she's a victim of society)
I went off-topic, but I don't care. (Though it feels to me like the two topics are basically the same)
I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just stating my opinion on your post. Is it too long? Yeah, it is!

On topic—the movie is wonderful. 😍
Lol, typical "women's work." They were trying to avoid getting into a real scrap "out of politeness," but they ended up just trading insults instead. 😁
If everything they’re saying is true—which, honestly, wouldn't surprise me one bit—then this whole thing is a complete joke.
I mean, come on... haven't we just become numb to this kind of nonsense by now?!
They actually fought? 😁

Honestly, I’m really digging most of the music you guys are talking about here.
