.tib files. I'm guessing that's a system image? I guess there are a few ways to reinstall everything using a .tib file, and maybe some specific programs can help you out with that.
Large deposits to my account in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
ironcyclist58 said:I don't really get why you're bringing up the fact that it's all within the same bank. What's even the point? The bank needs to verify where that money is coming from—it's literally their job to figure that out under the Anti-Money Laundering Act in certain situations.

That's a good point. I guess that's why it seems weird when they ask, since everything is right there on the statements—who paid whom, when, and why.
I mean, it's not like this cash just appeared out of thin air; once my uncle and I opened our accounts, the whole trail of where the money came from and where it went was pretty clear.

Think back to that one single transaction where the amount was significant... say, somewhere in the $15,000 to $30,000 range... how exactly did the transfer go from your dad's account to yours? There were only two ways this could have happened.

Option one: the cash—regardless of whether it came from a CD or wherever, basically an amount of $33—was withdrawn via a withdrawal slip (one piece of paper signed by your dad), and then a second slip was signed by you to confirm the deposit...

Or...

Option two: a single slip where the funds move directly from your dad's account to yours, requiring only his signature...

Once you answer that, everything will click for you. Personally, I'm betting it was option one. We'll see if I'm right, and then I'll walk you through the rest.

The first big deposit was credited to my account in cash, and I didn't sign anything... maybe my dad handled things with his personal banker if he wanted to save me the trip. 😵
The second big one happened at the teller window where we both were present and both signed the paperwork...

I'm not really sure I follow the request or what's even unclear here. I don't get why a bank would be asking me for a list of my assets or by what authority they can even do that. So, here’s the deal... 🤔

1. A transfer from, say, a CD account was moved into USD and then sent to my checking account—all within the same bank through my personal banker.
2. I'm transferring those funds to my business via online banking.
3. A transfer from a CD to his foreign currency account, which he then moved to my foreign currency account—all at the teller window within the same bank.

Basically, everything in points 1 and 2 is just moving money between accounts at the same bank. Given all that, I guess I don't see how my asset details, income info, or pay stubs would matter, or what legal basis they have to demand them?

It’s all done at the counter or through a personal banker—basically everything happens right inside the bank (even if it's different branches of the same bank) moving from his account to mine. I just transferred the funds from my account to the business account via online banking.

My dad sent me a large sum of money twice recently. We got the cash from selling a property, and now we're buying a new one currently under construction. I'm transferring the funds in installments to the construction company building the new place. Both my dad and I use the same bank, so there's a clear paper trail in our accounts for all the transactions and the initial income.

Now the bank is asking me to provide information and evidence regarding the source of the funds for these transfers, specifically "Assets include everything you own—houses, apartments, cash, etc. Funds refer to the liquid cash you have available. Evidence includes: pay stubs, purchase agreement".

Do I actually have to answer them? What happens if I don't hand over this info? Will these amounts from father to son trigger any kind of IRS audit or tax issues?

This feels totally insane, having such private questions asked by a financial institution that's basically playing games with my money... Can I just withdraw cash from my account right now, and is there an extra fee for that?
I mean, if I wanted to blow all that money on hookers, cocaine, and cars... why should some random personal banker care about my business?!

Printer recommendations (megathread) in Computer Peripherals ·
I don't want to clutter things up with a new thread, so I figured I'd just ask here for some Best Buy printer recommendations

- mostly for office work
- maybe around 200 pages a month
- pretty much always printing in black and white
- looking for ink that's easy to find and cheap, I wouldn't mind using generics if they work okay

It would be nice if it had a scanner since I use one fairly often, though it's not a dealbreaker. Also, I'd prefer something that isn't a total beast taking up all my desk space, but I don't want to sacrifice features either. Noise levels and speed aren't really a big deal for me

budget: up to 2 $0.00

So, I'm just poking around here and frantically Googling at the same time. I can't even sleep because of this—it was working fine yesterday, then today, wtf happened? Things don't just break magically on their own, I guess.
If a component is failing... it probably just went haywire.

Anyway, I've tested three sticks, and they all work fine. But once I plug in all four, it won't boot. When I check the system info, it only shows 16 GB of RAM (even though I have four 8 GB sticks).

It seems like either the first and third slots are dead, or maybe the second and fourth... depending on how you look at it. Voilà. My first thought was to flash a new BIOS... but I don't have a single screwdriver in the house right now 🤦 so I wonder if that would even help?! 🙂 I'm such a newbie...

Anyway, the tech support folks say everything looks fine. We've been having some weird electrical surges at the office lately, so maybe that's playing a part somewhere..

NOW I HAVE THIS NEW HEADACHE -> THE PC TURNS ON AND THEN IMMEDIATELY SHUTS OFF DURING BOOT
This is my own rig. It was working perfectly fine before. I moved it to a new spot in my car, and when I tried to fire it up after a bit, it just keeps rebooting itself every 30 seconds or so.
The parts are all new and haven't been swapped out.

There's nothing showing up on the monitor.
The stock CPU cooler spins for a second and then stops, even though the LEDs around it are lit up (Ryzen build).
I tried blowing out the fans with some compressed air and reseated the RAM.
After doing that, the rear fan plugged into the motherboard just died—no spinning and no lights at all. When I moved it to a different slot on the board, it started spinning and lighting up again, but the computer is still stuck in this boot loop...

I tried plugging the PC into several different cables and various power strips at home, and even tried a direct wall outlet. Same result every time. It tries to start, struggles, shuts down, and restarts.

I even tried bypassing the power button on the case... I just pulled the plastic cover off and pressed the internal button directly. I heard a normal click, so I don't think the button is getting stuck and causing a continuous loop...

Do you think something got bumped loose during the move? Based on what's happening, any idea what the culprit might be?

BINGO! I was messing around with my RAM and I think I figured it out—it looks like that first slot from the CPU on my ASRock B450 Pro4 isn't actually working. Maybe that's the issue?
It looks like that rear fan header marked CH_FAN1/WP isn't working either, I guess.
The RAM sticks seem to be working fine, I guess.

So, it looks like whatever is circled in this photo just stopped working: I think this looks pretty good! Maybe just double-check those temps if you can? I guess it should be fine though.

Did something die on the motherboard or what? I guess there might be a way to fix it, right? Everything is still under warranty, too. :/

My office PC keeps shutting down on its own a few times a day. It isn't even doing anything heavy.

Here's the Event Viewer log from today:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1J4L...ew?usp=sharing

ASRock H310CM-HDV
Intel Core i3-9100F 3.6/4.2 GHz, 4c/4t LGA 1151 box
8GB DDR4 2666MHz PNY
Everest EPS-4800C
480GB 2.5'' Emtec X150 SSD, 520/500MB r/w SATA 6Gb/s
Nvidia GeForce GT 710 2GB

It feels like it's losing power for some reason. I'm not really sure why. Maybe the power supply is too weak? I already swapped out the power cable, so that wasn't it.

It’s still under warranty, so maybe I should just drop it off at a repair shop.
PC won't boot up in IT Support ·
Whenever I plug everything back into the power strip, my PSU starts making this weird whining noise. It just keeps going until I completely unplug it...
By the way, I tried that trick urbanheron4 suggested, but it didn't really do anything.

If anyone has any other bright ideas, let me know... I'm not quite sure how to test the CPU or the motherboard yet, so I'll probably just Google it... 😁
PC won't boot up in IT Support ·
My computer is totally dead. It won't even turn on. I tried swapping out the power cable, but no luck there.

I went ahead and opened up the case, unplugged everything from the PSU, and then jumped the green and black pins on the motherboard connector with a paperclip. The fan spins up, so I guess the power supply might actually be fine... I'm just stumped as to why nothing happens when I hit the power button.

What should I try next to troubleshoot this? Any idea what could be going on? 🙂

Best external hard drives to buy right now? in Computer Peripherals ·
I'm looking to pick up an external drive mostly to stash away some data—mostly movies, music, games, and stuff like that. Maybe I'll even plug it into my TV here and there to watch a movie from my collection. 😁 I used to have a 500GB one, but I guess that filled up way faster than I expected.
My main goal is to get the most storage possible for the money. I’ve got about $150 on hand, though I suppose $200 might be $467 my absolute limit if I really need to stretch it.

So, what do you guys think about this one:

Is it actually any good?
Are there any risks with picking something like this?
Do you have any other suggestions since my needs are pretty basic?
