Russia's invasion of Ukraine: Part 5 in War in Ukraine ·
There has to be more to the story... if we’re talking about joining the Soviet Union, I believe Estonia voted for it by something like 99.9%.

Amnesty International pulled the plug, didn't they? Honestly, this whole cancel culture phenomenon is just going to spiral until it eventually eats itself alive—it’s practically inevitable at this point. It’s painfully obvious that this isn't a sustainable long-term strategy. lol.

Oh, please—as if Zimbabwe launched an invasion of Crimea... obviously it was the Ukrainians.

rowdyraven112 said:The battle for Popasna ended on May 7th when the Ukrainian Armed Forces pulled out. This footage is dated August 5th. By then, muscle tissue should be visibly decaying. The body should be crawling with scavengers. If you've ever spent any time hiking, you'd know what a carcass looks like after a week of being picked at by worms and bugs. Unless the body was preserved in those heavy-duty body bags. Not to mention, anyone filming this would need either a gas mask or a stomach of steel. You get this in real life when a smell starts drifting from an apartment where a lonely, forgotten old man lived. You don't want to know what the place looks like or what the body looks like a week after death. At least, that's what I've been told.

Bottom line? Either the video was shot 2-3 days later, or it's heavily staged. I'm not interested in guessing which one it is or arguing about it. Reddit is full of thousands of these—both staged and real. In this video, the head and hands should be absolutely swarming with scavengers. Literally swarming.

Let's be clear. Are the Russians committing crimes in Ukraine? Only an idiot would claim they aren't. Scale? I have no idea. I'm not on the ground, so I can't judge. Are Ukrainians committing crimes against Russian soldiers? Should I repeat what I said about idiots? As for scale, I can tell you it's likely a hundred times smaller than the Russian side. Why? Simple. Because the Russians are currently the stronger force.

why do you assume that corpse has to be from when Popasna was captured? He could have been captured recently and brought to Popasna just to be killed there...

And let’s not forget how the Russians slunk out of Afghanistan with their tails between their legs. So, what is the actual point here? If they couldn't even manage to hold onto Afghanistan, how on earth do they expect to conquer Ukraine?
I'm afraid the answer is: they won't.

Look at these oil prices—we’re actually seeing rates lower than when the invasion first kicked off. My apologies, I meant the "special military operation." We've got WTI crude sitting at $88.

Honestly, this is just an old tradition playing out. After the revolution, you had judges who, by sheer inertia, actually stuck to the law—which meant they occasionally let innocent people walk free. But then the Party stepped in and gave those judges a bit of "guidance": don't bother looking at whether the person is actually guilty; just look at which class they belong to.🧐

It made the whole judicial system much more efficient, I suppose. And frankly, looking at things today, it seems like we're operating on those exact same principles.

P.S. I realize this is off-topic, but it looks like we have a major situation brewing: China is deploying intercontinental missiles. As far as I can tell, nobody moves assets like that without having very clear intentions.

Except they aren't heading for Taiwan. The Chinese are in such a hysterical frenzy right now that they’re actually using tanks to clear their own citizens off the beaches... honestly, if that's what passes for "normal" over there, God help us.

John Harding
Vjekoslav Prebeg
Dylan Healy
Mathias Gustavsson
Andrew Hill.

They aren't actually looking for guilt here—pretty much anyone who shows up at the "Court of Justice" is already guilty in their eyes.

It's just like that one Russian official put it: they're guilty, and the court is simply there to decide what the specific charge should be.

Kimberly Perez82 said:So, I have one last question for the experts here... does anyone actually understand why the USA and the EU are funneling such massive amounts of weaponry over to Ukraine, yet we haven't seen anything sent our way? It makes me wonder—is the freedom of one European nation somehow worth more than another's? Or am I missing some deeper, more complicated motive at play here? Why is there such a glaringly inconsistent approach to what should be a universal struggle for democracy and equality? I would truly appreciate some insight on this.

It’s just that old saying, isn't it? The neighbor's cow always seems to die right when mine starts looking healthy.

Kate Cook27 said:There are threads about Canada—anyone who wants to write can. Look, Ukraine is in Europe, so naturally Europe should care if there's a war happening on its doorstep. It's true Europe dropped the ball when we had wars here, but hopefully, they won't repeat that mistake. And at the end of the day, you have Russia threatening nuclear conflict and new escalations—even Aleksandar Vučić is warning things could get worse if demands aren't met once Donbas is taken. There isn't an "American side" here; it's just the fact that Russia invaded Ukraine and is killing Ukrainians—people whom The Kremlin acts like don't even exist, treating them like some Bolshevik error—just to seize territory and annex it. It's like we're back in 1885 where empires just expand through war. No matter how many wars the USA has fought, they've never just seized land and annexed it, nor have they claimed that Iraqis don't exist or Afghans don't exist... Maybe we should just give Ukraine everything Russia wants. By that logic, next time Viktor Orbán claims the River Canada is actually the Rijeka, we should just hand over the Rijeka immediately instead of defending our homeland for nothing.

I mean, let’s be honest—US foreign policy is morally questionable in plenty of cases, if not outright worse. But what really cracks me up is when Russians try to use that as an argument to suggest people should sympathize with Russia just because the USA is viewed as the villain. Honestly, it’s enough to make you burst out laughing.

and they aren't blocking all transit—just the specific goods sanctioned by the European Union, not every single shipment passing through.

That part makes sense to me—I get the logic—but I have a feeling Russian propaganda is going to blow this out of proportion and turn it into some massive, exaggerated crisis. 😁
I honestly doubt how much actual impact this will have, though. But hey, that’s just my two cents.

dustyowl29 said:We’ve been letting Putin off the hook since 2014, and frankly, it's way too much. He’s personally responsible for the deaths of probably over 100,000 soldiers and civilians in this frantic, misguided "liberation" of Ukraine from Nazis.
He deserves either a death sentence by hanging or ten consecutive life terms—nothing less. And don't even get me started on the economic fallout; the material damage he’s inflicted on Ukraine and the rest of the world can be measured in hundreds of billions of dollars...

The guy is a total savage—you can't give him an inch.

That part isn't really up for debate. What *is* debatable is whether the potential benefits of such a move actually outweigh the inevitable fallout... and frankly, I don't think the math adds up. In a sense, they've just handed him the perfect excuse to roll out a full mobilization—at least, that's how he'll spin it to his people. Either way, it'll serve to unify the Russian population under one banner. Or, more likely, the US will be forced to backtrack, which would just give Putin even more momentum.

That’s just not the same thing. We are talking about Russian territory being symbolically encircled here. Under these conditions, Putin can ride that momentum as far as he wants to go.
Russia's invasion of Ukraine: Part 5 in War in Ukraine ·
I honestly don't see the point in beating a dead horse here—it’s just handing Russian propaganda a massive victory on a silver platter. If there was anyone left in Russia who had even a shred of doubt regarding Putin's claims about NATO encircling them, they won't have those doubts anymore. This is a total fail, imho.

Honestly, I don't see any real logic behind Lithuania's move... it feels like an escalation for the sake of escalating. The strategic importance of that enclave is practically nonexistent when you look at the bigger picture.

Those Poles are pure evil. Thank God Ukraine has such "friends" like Russia and Belarus... I hear the Russians are already sending troops into Western Ukraine just to stop the Poles.

I’m not entirely sure where to land on this, but apparently Lukashenko is out there claiming he won't sit idly by while Poland occupies western Ukraine—he's even suggesting the Ukrainians might step in to help. 🤔
