I think I figured it out. I'll just strip out those http parts and put the URL inside brackets. Is there anything else I should do to make sure the image displays directly on the forum instead of just showing up as a link? Thanks.

Trial failed.
I used to be able to upload images without any issues. I just paste the link into that little yellow mountain icon and hit confirm. I’m not sure if I’m missing a step somewhere, because it’s just not working. Could it be an issue with me trying this on my phone?

The weird part is that when I go into the editor to tweak the link, the image shows up perfectly fine. But once I actually submit the post, both the link and the image completely vanish from the thread. 🤷

I honestly don't think that's enough to explain such a massive spike, but it's technically a possibility.

(As for changing the thread title, why mess with the chicken that lays the golden eggs—assuming the title is what's driving the clicks in the first place)

But what’s happening here feels off. I was logged in for quite a while last night, and I kept checking the number of active users on the Forum homepage.

On other boards where people are actively posting, there might be 100, 200, or 300 users online at once. Yet, over in Social Science, there were roughly 900 users active, but only two or three posts had actually been made.
Where are all these users coming from? We're talking about hundreds of registered members being on that specific thread at the exact same time without saying a word. I'm not saying the thread is garbage, but it clearly isn't the most engaging thing on the site, which you can tell by looking at the activity levels on much more popular boards.

It doesn't take a single logged-in user, let alone 900 of them, to inflate view counts by clicking around. If the admin has the ability to see exactly who is currently viewing a thread, it would make it much easier to figure out what's actually going on.

No problem at all. Just looking at the stats, this thread has racked up nearly 200,000 views in just a single day. I hadn't paid much attention to the concurrent user count before, but looking now, it’s almost matching the numbers over on the Automotive forum, which just doesn't seem right. Have you figured out what's actually going on?

After reading coppersailor28's post, I thought it might be a good idea to strip out that Russian suffix from the thread title. But there's definitely something else fishy here, because those concurrent user numbers are clearly way too high for a PDF discussion.
It just doesn't feel realistic to me that there's some army of idle trolls logging in just to spam-click on a single thread.

I’ve actually got a question for you all, and while it isn't directly about the thread title, it does have to do with the view counter. Since the admin is hanging out here, I figured they might find this interesting too. 🙂

On Grammar, specifically the Russian language thread.
That thread was started back in 2004. My last post there was in November 2020, where I noted that the view count was starting to climb really fast.
So, over the course of sixteen-plus years, that thread had about 400,000 views. But then, in just the last two months, the view count shot up by 5 million. What's weird is that nobody has even posted anything new in those last two months, and even if they had, a jump like that would still be totally insane.

I've only noticed this specific pattern on that one thread. Have any of you forum regulars seen anything similar happening with other threads?
