They're sitting in the hair! in Health ·
Oh, what an absolute nightmare 🙄
A third of my hair had already turned gray by the time I was seventeen, and since then, it’s just been a non-stop accumulation—and the worst part is, I don't even dye it, and I'm a woman!

Laura Barnes54 said:Look, this is what I was trying to get at. Back when I wasn't wearing anything at all, my vision actually felt better with my near-sightedness of almost -2 compared to my dad, who's at a -1; if he took his glasses off, he’d see things clearer than I would, you know? It’s really just about how your eyes adapt to everything. Does that make sense?
That's why I feel like if they measured my prescription right now without any contacts in, the results would look way worse than they actually are.
Honestly, I don't really understand the science behind it; I just want whatever is going to be best for my eyes. 👍

I’m definitely no expert on all this, but isn't it true that your perception of vision shifts slightly in the short term depending on whether you're wearing contact lenses, glasses, or nothing at all, even though your actual prescription remains the same? To get an accurate reading, shouldn't you go in for an exam after not wearing contacts for at least two days? (I think it has something to do with the cornea, but I could never quite remember the specific medical details...) Of course, eye strain can mess with the results too, but in my opinion, those are just minor discrepancies... People with very mild prescriptions probably notice those shifts much more easily than I do, since I can't see a thing without some kind of help anyway...

Laura Barnes54 said:But you know what I’m really wondering about? Fine, I’ll go get an eye exam. But I have this nagging feeling my prescription has actually gone up a bit. How on earth are they supposed to determine the exact number if they test me while my contacts are in? I won't be able to see a thing! My eyes have become so used to wearing lenses; before I started using them, I didn't wear anything at all, and back when I was at a -1.75, I actually saw better than I do now that my eyes have fully adapted to the lenses... so when I take them out... if you catch my drift 🙂 )

Look, I’m currently rocking a -9.5 and an -11 (those are just the contact lens prescriptions; my actual vision needs are even higher), so just imagine how much I struggle without them! Go ahead and book that appointment; they’ll try to check your vision while you have the lenses in, and if they realize your sight isn't quite right, they'll just have you pop them out and they'll measure your prescription properly... I totally get where you're coming from, but honestly, I think what you're worried about is almost impossible. Your prescription is what it is, and you should technically be able to see clearly with it regardless of the situation. They’ll just hand you a pair of glasses to test, and you can do a little reading... Trust me, those professionals know their stuff, so don't stress too much about it. Or, if you can manage to go a single day without your contacts, maybe skip them for a day and then head to the clinic the next morning—that way, the results will be much more accurate. Personally, I can't exactly afford to do that because I'm basically blind without my lenses. Anyway, I know that over at the eye clinic, they have full catalogs of different contact lens brands; why not flip through it with the doctor and pick out whatever feels like the best fit for your vision? With a prescription like yours, you actually have plenty of options to choose from, whereas I'm pretty much stuck 😢

Thanks, but I was really just asking out of curiosity since they always seem to hand me the exact same pair whenever I visit Ghetaldus. I did spend a little time browsing online just now, and it turns out that given my specific prescription, I don't actually have much of a selection—maybe two or three options at most? But honestly, it doesn't even matter anymore because I've already gone ahead and bought my supply for the year, and I'm planning on heading in for laser eye surgery this fall anyway...

Laura Barnes54 said:I’ve mostly been shopping at Ghetaldus, getting B&L lenses too, and I’ve always been pretty happy with them. Now, I’m thinking about switching from my annual prescription to something more like a three-month supply, or maybe something else entirely, but I’m stuck on one thing—do I really need to schedule a full eye exam first, or can I just decide which ones I want on my own?

Honestly, I don't think anyone can actually force you to get an exam if you don't want to... And when it comes to the money side of things, does it even matter? It's kind of like $33, where they might just deduct it from the price of the contact lenses anyway... I’ve been paying $187 for years now, and even back when the exam used to be free versus how it is now where they charge $33... From what I know, the doctors down there always flip through all the different lens types for me, so maybe you could actually talk it out with her and figure out which ones you want without needing a whole formal exam first?

Hey everyone, I’ve got a quick question for you all... Where do you usually go to pick up your contact lenses? Do you head to those specialized eye boutiques like Verizon, or do you prefer going to a hospital clinic or somewhere else entirely? For years now, I’ve been going to Verizon, and I always end up with the exact same thing—B&L Verizon lenses—which makes me feel like I don't actually have any real options at all. Now, I'm starting to wonder, does Verizon only carry B&L products, or is it just that because my prescription is so high, I'm stuck with these annual B&L Verizon lenses regardless of what else is out there?

Michelle Kelly76 said:@Angela Reyes3/">@@Angela Reyes3: Wait, where on earth did you read that it kills that specific bacteria?

Well, I actually tossed the box already, so I can't give you the exact wording from the label, but if I recall correctly, right underneath the main product name, there was some fine print mentioning it’s for cleaning lenses, preserving them, and specifically noted that it kills that bacteria...

Kate Edwards51 said:I was wondering, where on earth do you pick up that Alcon solution? Is it just something you grab at any local pharmacy, or do you have to go to a specific eye doctor's office?

Oh, you can just grab it at a drugstore! If you happen to be over in New York City, maybe near a spot like a CVS in Brooklyn, it’s super easy to find, but honestly, I think they carry it pretty much everywhere these days...

Kate Walker61 said:Oh, you have got to be kidding me... I just opened my new box and I am already staring at this disaster. The solution is barely even started, so at least that part is somewhat manageable, but still—this is absolutely awful. How does this even happen?😠

So, if we’re looking at this purely from a theoretical standpoint, the number of people actually getting sick is incredibly low, right? It’s not like there’s some massive statistical probability hanging over our heads, but still, isn't it ultimately up to each individual to decide whether they want to take that risk or not? I honestly don't know what kind of lenses you're currently wearing—whether they're dailies, monthlies, or something else entirely—but if I hadn't just placed an order for some new ones (which, by the way, already arrived, yay!), I would have absolutely tossed my old pair in the trash and started fresh with a brand-new supply. I mean, given all the eye issues I deal with as it is, why on earth would I want to add this extra layer of worry to the mix?

Oh, I should probably add one more thing! Looking closely at the info for Opti-Free, it specifically mentions that it kills off that particular bacterium responsible for the infection, so I’m feeling much more at ease about everything now. Isn't it such a relief when you finally find that bit of reassurance?🙂

Kate Walker61 said:Isn't it also worth just tossing the lenses themselves? If they're made from Complete, I mean... I've come to realize that it's really just about the solution...😕 😕理论上来说

But looking at the official press release from the manufacturer, they only mention the solution; I think I read somewhere online that you should toss the lenses too... To be more precise, here
Dangerous contact lens solutions! in Health ·
So, I finally picked up that Opti-Free Express solution today, $29, and honestly, it’s pretty great... plus, it actually comes with its own little carrying case in the box...

@ Kimberly Davis52 - you know, I was thinking about that, and maybe it just offers a higher level of hygiene? I’ll be the first to admit I’m not always the most meticulous person, and I always end up with that annoying dried-up solution crusting around the cap, so I actually find it much more convenient to just grab a fresh bottle every month...

By the way, has everyone else really just tossed their lenses out all at once? I'm curious, what kind of lenses are you guys using lately—I mean, what's the replacement cycle for you? I personally wear annuals, so I wouldn't be quite as quick to just throw them away... Luckily, mine had actually reached their expiration date anyway, so I ended up grabbing some new ones regardless...

Wait, I was actually talking about the contact lenses themselves...

Zlokotlokrp said:Take a look at this! I am absolutely loving this! posted Take a look at this PDF and tell me what you think—honestly, how much cause for panic are we actually looking at here?
I really think we should consider bumping those numbers up, even if just by a tiny margin. I mean, when you look at the math, we're talking about maybe one or two cases of an AK infection per million users—is that really enough to feel secure? Should we be aiming higher than that?
It really could just be a simple case of "user error," don't you think? I mean, take something as basic as rinsing things out under the kitchen tap with regular tap water instead of using distilled—it’s such an easy little slip-up to make, yet it can change everything!

You might want to give Oxysept a shot since it comes from the same manufacturer, but just keep in mind that you'll definitely need to pick up some saline solution to rinse your lenses properly afterward.

Look, I’m not saying this is happening in every single corner of the market, but when you see a trend pulling back from the entire landscape like this, you have to admit it’s clearly more than just some minor hiccup, right? Beyond the technical side of things, I also have to consider my own physical limitations—I deal with incredibly sensitive eyes and a really high prescription, so I’m just not in the headspace to be taking unnecessary risks right now.
I used to rely on Oxysept back in the day, but honestly, it never quite hit the mark for me. I’ve always found myself gravitating toward those convenient all-in-one solutions—there's just something about having everything in one bottle that makes life so much easier, don't you think? Does anyone else feel the same way, or am I just being lazy? I'd love to hear if you guys have any other clever ideas or recommendations!

Michelle Taylor82 — I actually did a quick search on Google for some reviews, and honestly, it was pretty eye-opening to see how many hits come up regarding product recalls, lawsuits, and even reports of infections and other issues... If you were looking into specific symptoms, they seem to be fairly standard stuff too: redness, irritation, that annoying feeling like there's something stuck in your eye, or even just blurry vision. Out of curiosity, where do you usually pick up your contacts? I can't even remember which brand I'm wearing right now; I know they're labeled Optima, but I have a sneaking suspicion that might not actually be the manufacturer's name.

I have to come clean and admit that I’m probably a bit more reckless than most when it comes to my contact lens routine. Honestly, when I wash my hands, I don't bother drying them with a towel before I start handling my lenses; instead, I just place the lens right onto my wet palm. Now, don't get me wrong—it's not like I'm letting a ton of water pool there, but I do try to shake off as much excess moisture as possible first. Once the lens is on my hand, I add the solution, give it a good scrub, and then add even more solution before popping it into my eye. My reasoning was always that if I use a paper towel or a cloth, those tiny little lint fibers always seem to snag on my skin and end up stuck to the lens, which is a total nightmare. But after reading some things, I've suddenly become incredibly paranoid about whether my method is actually okay!😲

I was honestly so spooked by this news that I ended up falling down a total Google rabbit hole, only to discover that this solution is being pulled from shelves almost everywhere across the globe... I’ve actually been using it for years now and have always been perfectly happy with it, so I'm left feeling completely lost—does anyone have any suggestions for something similar in price that won't leave me hunting for a new brand every single time I need a fresh box? Honestly, the symptoms of this infection are just terrifying to read about, especially since it sounds like I might be checking off every single box; isn't it just awful how hard it is to detect because the symptoms mimic a standard, everyday infection? I also came across some advice recommending that anyone who had lenses stored in this solution should probably just toss them out immediately... It’s a huge relief that I happened to order a new batch of lenses yesterday since mine were nearing their expiration date anyway, though now I just have to wait two whole weeks for them to arrive...🙄
