I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much "roster depth" has become the obsession in almost every competitive circle. Whether it's amateur leagues or professional sports, there seems to be this constant pressure to scavenge for talent, grab whoever is available, and just stack the deck to ensure a victory. It feels like the spirit of the original competition gets lost when you're constantly looking for an edge through outside additions.

Personally, I’ve always had a soft spot for the groups that just stick together. There’s something to be said for a squad that goes through the grind as a unit and decides to face the next challenge with the exact same lineup that got them there. It’s risky, sure, and it might mean a tougher road, but the chemistry and the sense of shared accomplishment seem way more meaningful than a "super-team" built on the fly.

Do you guys prefer seeing teams stick to their guns, or is it just common sense to grab every advantage you can get when the stakes are high?

It feels like every few months, some massive organization tries to rewrite the rules of the game just to secure a bigger slice of the pie. I’ve been following sports for decades, and there’s this growing sense that the soul of competition is being traded for guaranteed revenue streams. It used to be about the drama of the underdog or the merit of the season, but now it feels like the giants are constantly trying to build a gated community where they can't lose their footing.

I was talking to a buddy of mine who’s a huge fanatic, and he was venting about how much the "big names" seem to think they are bigger than the actual sport itself. It’s a weird power struggle. On one hand, you want the best talent playing against each other, but on the other, if you remove the risk of failure, you basically kill the magic that makes us watch in the first place.

Do you think these massive clubs are actually protecting the tradition of the game, or are they just scared of losing their status if they have to play by the same rules as everyone else?
