Is spirit everything? in Spirituality ·
Rachel Bishop said:Look, here’s the thing...
If we’re really getting down to brass tacks regarding this whole debate over matter versus spirit, there's one massive point we have to grasp...
That kind of split—that division—doesn't actually exist anywhere outside of our own heads.

There isn't "matter" and then "spirit," nor is it matter *or* spirit. What truly exists is

one single, undivided reality.

You could call it whatever you want, but you have to realize it is one, singular, and absolutely indivisible thing...
This whole topic ties back heavily to how we perceive and interpret things,
because that’s really where our entire worldview (this material vs. spiritual divide) rests—basically, on our tendency to split reality into spirit and/or matter.

Honestly, I totally get why you’re hesitant—your "non-stance" makes complete sense. That feeling of the ground slipping out from under you when you think about this stuff? Yeah, that feeling is incredibly real. But the truth is, that "solid ground" doesn't even exist in the first place. Until we learn how to stand on "nothingness," we feel like we need to cling to that stability just to survive. It’s okay... but eventually, there comes a moment where you just have to let go. It’s probably better to learn how to stand without any support while we still have the chance...

So, what are the actual implications of these ideas? What does it all mean?
It means an incredibly simple solution... and incredible freedom. That's what it means. 😉

Sub speciae Spinoza, if I'm not mistaken? 😉

Basically, you've been feeling the pressure of Spinoza lately, haven't you?
X-Men 2 (2003) in Movies ·
I honestly don't get why everyone is raving about this movie—to me, it was absolute junk.
First off, the plot was just terrible, like, genuinely hard to find a single good thing to say about it.
Second, the acting? It felt like something straight out of a local pageant in some tiny town in middle America.
And the worst part was being stuck in a theater where like 95% of the crowd was just a bunch of twelve-year-olds—it made things feel pretty awkward, to say the least.
But, I will give credit where it's due: the special effects were top-notch.

The bottom line is you really shouldn't go in with high expectations.
Just compare it to something like The Matrix and you'll see—this was just a total mess.
And they're even in the same genre...
🙄
Look, the philosophy here is actually pretty straightforward
if you’ve read the book and then watched the movie, 95% of the time you’re gonna say it just doesn't capture that specificvibe or the overall atmosphere
you can't really nail down why by nitpicking individual scenes—whether they were left out of the movie or added from the pages—it's more than that
the movie is perfectly fine if you're just an empty sponge who doesn't care about fantasy and isn't looking for any deep satisfaction from it
objectively, everyone will probably dig the visual effects, the graphics, the scenery, and the dialogue—maybe the acting is a bit hit-or-miss—but all in all, it'll be a decent little flick
but now, if you happen to run into a Lord of the Rings freak like silentpilot6 or someone like me who wants to tear this movie apart, the rant goes a little something like this:
that hack Peter Jackson should honestly just bury himself up to his ears for a few good reasons:
1. Frodo is a total miss. Elijah Wood only knows how to act "pathetic," and everyone gives him props for it like he's some kind of genius... give me a break. Any idiot could play that character. Plus, the guy even admitted he only read the book because he had to for the role, so basically 👎
2. Aragorn is also a huge disappointment. Viggo Mortensen comes across as nothing more than some scruffy, overgrown bohemian living in a trailer, pretending to be some legendary workaholic. I couldn't care less about his portrayal when, according to the source material, he's supposed to be absolutely imposing
3. I absolutely CANNOT get past the Ents and how they handled them in the film...
man, in the book there are only a handful of them, maybe ten at most, but this guy turns them into a massive army of 500,000 manic destroyers and absolute beasts...👎
4. There's plenty more where that came from. Honestly, I think the movie's atmosphere is just non-existent, rather than being poorly translated
in the book, the atmosphere is phenomenal, but in the movie? It's just not there
and don't even get me started on that weird version of Galadriel and the flamboyant Legolas
🙄
