Hey person, just wanted to let you all know I'll be hanging around until Sunday, but after that, I'm going to be off the grid for a bit. I'll definitely check back in once I'm out of the hospital. peace🙂☕🙂
Honestly, I’m just bored out of my mind. I actually feel a little guilty for sitting through Laren’s selection last night since they’re re-running it today anyway. I decided to take another day off for myself—I've got plenty of food and treats on hand, so I’ll officially start budgeting again tomorrow. This is hands down the worst time of year for me, but honestly, getting sick actually helped me scale back, and I’m not even mad about it. It’s true there's less cash flowing in, but you eventually learn how to stretch what you've got to make sure you're covered.

Well, I'm just chilling at home, as they’d say back in the Midwest. Hopefully, I can at least join in on this coffee chat, even if I don't jump into other topics as much. And wait, have I just missed you hanging around the forum lately, or am I totally tripping? Is it freezing where you guys are? Here in New York City, the sun is out, but there's a serious bite in the air—honestly, I can't even bring myself to stick my head out the door.🙂Hopefully we'll be chatting more often than we have been.
No, seriously, Lili actually means it, I know her style. I mean, she can be a bit of a tough moderator (poor Dubo, he’s basically one step away from a red card, haha) Just kidding! Honestly, this coffee is amazing—at least for a "forum newbie" like me, I definitely need this kind of vibe right now. If my buddy Dubo keeps talking like that, I’m actually going to start believing him. Oh my gosh, you guys have no idea how much your welcome warmed my heart. It’s like... imagine you’re starving, just famished, and you run into a friend who says, "Hey, come over, my mom made an incredible feast."😛 We're talking layers of ham and cheese, hot soup, slow-roasted pork chops with potatoes, any salad you want, and then finishing off with chocolate lava cakes... yum. Now, I shouldn't even talk about stuff like that, but I live for good food. I'm a total foodie through and through, even if I don't look it.😂 And hey, Dubo, I might have to give you a new nickname—D.D.—but I won't tell you what it stands for unless we talk privately (or via a couple of emails). Though, if you want, I could spill the tea to the whole group here, sort of like that old "grandma" joke. I think I'll hang out with you all over virtual coffee for a bit while I browse through everything. I want to get a feel for the history here and figure out where to jump in without stepping on any toes—I really don't need any drama. Anyway, I'm going to pop into one thread for a second, but I won't stay long. Sending big hugs to everyone! I'm happy to be here. Wish me luck for tomorrow and Wednesday—I've got a doctor's appointment.🙂 Peace out!
Man, what are you doing up this early?🤷 That’s just how it goes once you aren't in your prime anymore—you end up wandering around late at night and waking up at the crack of dawn. Thanks mellowfox56, Raymond Martinez10, and lili for the warm welcome.🙂You guys are honestly the best. Gosh, I don't even know where to start or which thread to jump into; you guys have a little bit of everything going on here.😕 Hey, could someone take a look at my question regarding my tax return and let me know what you think? I just want to make sure my math is right. Anyway, I'm just finishing up some overdue stats work. Honestly, the guy isn't sweating the fact that the deadline passed, so why should I? Here's a little morning update for you all.☕ Morning!
It’s been way too long since I last checked in to say hi to everyone—Doug, Liti, Vlad... my old accounting buddies and dear friends. I’ve finally started feeling more like myself after being pretty sick for a while, so I’m hoping to slowly jump back into the mix with you all. Are you guys gonna have me back? Drinks are on me next time!☕ I’ve been lurking and reading everything you guys post, but honestly, I just didn't have the energy to get into any heavy debates while I was wiped out by this illness. I see plenty of new faces around here, though it looks like some of the "old guard" aren't really making much of an appearance either. Sending my best to everyone—wishing you all nothing but success and good vibes. Don't be strangers, reach out sometime. Yours, mellowfox56
Look, you don't necessarily need to be an official event planner or anything. Since birthday celebrations fall under general organizational categories, that's how you should register. But honestly, if you're down in Washington, D.C., your best bet is to just give the Department of Commerce a quick ring. If you head over to their office on Zapoljska 1, they'll give you the straight answers right then and there. I’d rather you double-check with them directly instead of me accidentally giving you the wrong info.
I’m looking to set up a little souvenir stand on my own property, but I have zero clue where to start with all this paperwork.
What kind of permits am I gonna need, and who do I actually have to talk to to get everything legal?
Tnx 😉
Your best bet is to head over to the Department of Commerce or maybe check in with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. If you can't make it in person, just give Expedia a call and see what they suggest.
You won't actually have to cough up those taxes until you file your return (and honestly, depending on how you set things up, you might not even owe any income tax at all once you factor in all the deductions—especially if your small business ends up showing a loss for the year). For the 2009 tax year, everything gets settled when you file by the April deadline. The only way you'd be paying monthly is if your employer "withheld" some of your paycheck upfront; otherwise, it’s just like I said.
I honestly don't see why she wouldn't want it, especially since everything was actually improved to our advantage when the laws were updated back in early 2009. Look, I’m definitely not trying to act like some legal expert here, but if you really want to dive into the details, just head over to a parenting forum or simply Google "FMLA" .
If you're running a small business, say you issue an invoice dated November 30th, and that’s your only one for the period, you’d pay the sales tax by December 31st. You just file your return with the IRS—you can grab the forms at Staples or Best Buy if you want to go old school. So, if your service is $2,000.00, then adding 23% tax means another $460.00, bringing your total invoice to $820. Yeah, you only deal with this if you've actually registered for sales tax collection, and honestly, I don't see why you'd bother doing that right out of the gate. That said, your best bet is to sit down with a CPA. It's hard for me to give you a full breakdown without knowing more about your specific setup, but hopefully, that gives you a starting point.
Man, it's awesome. Every single time I pop back into my own thread, I make sure to swing by here first to see if there's any news with you guys.🙂 Anyway, sending lots of love your way and big kisses to the little girl.
Just register your residency in Washington, D.C. for now instead of updating your ID. That way, your business stays exactly as it is while you figure out your next move. I was pretty sure that was what this was all about.

You could technically pay cash, but honestly, I much prefer having everything tracked through my bank account. 😁 Here’s a template for a Contract Corp if you want to see how it looks...
Henry Edwards33just to add to that, it’s super important to get that Contract Corp notarized at the IRS office.
mellowhound58 said:I am reaching out because I truly need some guidance here. Currently, I operate my own small business, but I am also an employee at a corporation with a steady, reliable income. Due to work requirements, I have to relocate to a different state soon. My plan is to transfer ownership of my small business to either my wife or my brother. Is this legally feasible under US regulations? And does anyone know what the actual costs might look like for transferring business ownership like this? Thank you all in advance
Unfortunately, you can't just "transfer" it like that—it doesn't really work that way. One option would be to add your wife as a co-owner and then you'd step out of the partnership, but honestly, that gets messy fast. There are so many "what ifs" regarding timing and taxes that it’s a headache. In my opinion, the smartest move is to just keep the business in your name and let your wife run the show. She doesn't even strictly need to be registered as an employee since immediate family members can help out without being officially on the payroll. That seems like your cleanest bet. Your brother could do it too, and you two could always sit down with a notary to sign a private agreement just to make sure everything important is legally documented between you. Technically, a sole proprietorship only passes to family members through inheritance after the owner passes away. I don't mean that in a dark way for you—long life and much success to you!—just stating the legal reality.

Edit: Turns out I managed to track down a legal expert at the Social Security office, and the answer is yes.
Honestly, just look back at what Dante wrote earlier in this thread. That should clear up exactly what kind of authority a manager actually holds.
