Ethan Mitchell4 said:I’m honestly just wondering what happens now that everything—every single registration and cancellation—is being handled online. What becomes of all those workers who used to sit behind the counters at Social Security and Medicare & Medicaid Services?

Are we just going to keep paying them to sit there and count the days, just like before? While we end up doing their jobs for them?

Let someone else worry about that—they're getting paid either way, hehehe🙂

The IRS doesn't track forest compensation.

You need to contact the USDA instead.

So who actually manages it then?

I’m not planning on calling the Forest Service—seems like a waste of time. If they’re fine with not paying, whatever... there's really no point...

If it's a tax—and let's be real, it is—it should show up on a standard tax card, since the government is the one pocketing it. 🤷

Here’s my experience—what about yours?
It feels like the whole system is a total farce. Here's the proof:

1. When they slashed the filing deadline from 15 days down to just 8, the clerks at the local DMV didn't even blink—they kept accepting late filings like nothing happened. Yet, we once got slapped with a fine of roughly $333 for a single infraction—one worker, two days late. Just like that.

Meanwhile, five other people? Nothing. Zero consequences.

2. Once they made electronic filing mandatory, the clerks went right back to taking paper forms. No one says a word. Honestly, it just depends on whether you're on their good side or not.

3. Then you’ve got the folks at Medicare, constantly breathing down your neck about fines for being late with health insurance filings. I actually dealt with a messy situation involving a delay like that once. I ended up with a court ruling dismissing the charges entirely because—get this—the law doesn't even authorize penalties for late health insurance filings, only for Social Security.

4. Now they’ve gone and shortened the deadline again to a measly 24 hours. Electronic filing is "required," yet some employees are still dutifully processing paperwork... and those Medicare clerks are still blowing their trumpets about non-existent fines for late health insurance updates.

Seriously?!

I’m a bit confused here—please share your experiences if you can 🙂

I have cases where the forest compensation forms were filed perfectly back in 2012. But since then, there’s zero trace of any debits or anything on the payment card records... nothing.

Now we’re submitting for 2013, and they’re asking for debt history—or overpayments from 2012, the usual advance payment stuff. How am I supposed to enter data when none of this was even recorded in the first place?

Honestly, I haven't a clue what anyone is doing here. 🙂

How do I get actual confirmation that my tax form from June 2013 was fully processed?
The status updates just say "form received and being processed," but apparently, that isn't enough for the Social Security Administration...

Classic job seeker stupidity. Just explain it to them like this: you send the form, and the IRS receives it. That *is* the automated processing. There isn't some third magical option—they should probably try educating themselves on how the e-filing system actually works, otherwise they're just talking nonsense. 😉

Yeah—just be careful when you're being persistent. You have to watch which certificate you pick from the list; if you click the wrong one, the whole thing just crashes—assuming you even have more than one installed.

Carol Price4 said:Look, if a Canadian company shows up in the system, it means they're part of the tax network and you're looking at an import from the European Union... The Canadians don't charge the Sales Tax; you handle that on your end. But, since you're doing that, you immediately claim the input credit—so there’s no actual cash moving out, it’s just an accounting entry on your tax return. Plus, you’ll need to file that specific import disclosure form, 😉

That's what they're asking for 😉 THANKS! Just one more quick follow-up to be safe: since the amount is in dollars, I just convert it using the mid-market exchange rate to USD, right? 👋

2. Are we allowed to record an invoice like this, and if so, how? Did the supplier have to charge Sales Tax, or did they skip it because they aren't registered in their system, or is this some kind of tax liability transfer?

Not only are you allowed to, you're required to.
As for whether they had to charge Sales Tax or not, I haven't the slightest clue since you haven't provided enough details to actually figure that out. 🤷
To start with, you can verify them through the IRS database.

Please don't bold the text in your posts. Everyone's questions matter, and trying to emphasize every single one makes the whole thread a pain to read.

Hardly "too little"—I laid out everything relevant to the question. How am I supposed to know anything else?🤷

...as far as checking the IRS database goes, that only works for the Sales Tax ID, but that's not even the issue here...

I have to bold. It's just how I do it.🙂 🙂

First off, apologies if this has already been asked!

Here’s the situation—I could really use some help if anyone here has dealt with this before;

1. We bought some inventory for our regular operations. The goods were sourced from Canada. The supplier sent over an invoice, but it's all in Canadian and the currency is EUR.
It looks like Sales Tax wasn't even charged, but there's this one sentence we can't make heads or tails of because, well, nobody here speaks Canadian. 😢

2. Are we actually allowed to record an invoice like this? And if so, how? Did the supplier even need to charge Sales Tax, or did they skip it because they aren't registered, or is this some kind of tax transfer thing?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

VAT forms... honestly... what a nightmare...
II. 4. VAT on imports into the US...
The recipient handles the math... The whole damn Value Added Tax law... just more paperwork for everyone else to deal with...

III. 2.
Prepayments on incoming shipments...
In Rhode Island, what kind of Value Added Tax is the recipient actually responsible for calculating...?
pre-tax...

THANKS!! 🙂

Need some help here:

How should I handle—or rather, book—an invoice for $117 that mentions a tax liability transfer per Section 75, Subsection 3a and Section 79, Subsection 7 of the Value Added Tax law?

Do I just put this on a standard VAT return? If so, where does it actually go?

Just to be clear, this is an input invoice, not an output one, so there's input tax to claim.

THANKS!!
