Look, Jesus, much like His teachings, is absolutely open to scrutiny and deep contemplation. I happen to be reading one of the greatest medieval Catholic thinkers, Abelard, and even he allowed himself far more intellectual freedom to ponder the nature of Jesus than many of the ultra-religious zealots on this forum. On the flip side, posts like Matthew Wright2's exhibit that exact same level of brainwashing—it’s just a different set of dogmas being played out

The bottom line is this: Jesus wasn't just a deity; He was also a man. Once that fundamental premise actually sinks into the minds of these ultra-religious types—who, if you think about it, are essentially committing blasphemy by denying Jesus His humanity—then maybe we can have a real conversation. Until then, just a little reminder: there is a moment where Jesus tells His Father that He wouldn't want to endure all that suffering if it weren't necessary. You know why? Because He is human, too

Now, all of this assumes we believe in Jesus as the Son of God. Of course, those who don't view Him that way have every right to discuss Him as a historical figure. And those who don't even accept Him as a historical figure have every right to debate the impact that such a myth (in their view) had on the development of humanity

This isn't some Vatican council meeting where certain dogmas are off-limits for discussion. As far as I'm aware, this is a secular forum

We absolutely should be debating the nature of Jesus Christ. As long as people perceive Jesus merely as some incomprehensible, distant God, they will never feel a sense of closeness. And without that closeness, you simply cannot have trust. Jesus came to us—to everyone, not just the believers—to build or restore that very foundation of trust

In any case, it would be wonderful if the tiresome dogmatists from both sides would just step aside and leave this topic to the open-minded folks. Maybe for that purpose, the title could just be changed to "Who Was Jesus Christ?" Since Jesus is such a universal figure, there is no reason why this shouldn't also drift into political territory. (Though, of course, petty bickering and cheap shots shouldn't be mistaken for actual politics)
