They really should have just clarified that the B module is completely optional. It would be great if kids knew they had a safe place to hang out and finish homework if they wanted to, with access to free food and computers, but without any pressure to stay.
It also could have been mentioned that they'd have extra support available during that time, like teachers who want the extra hours, outside specialists, or even college students doing their internships.

Yeah, I get that. Burnout is a completely legitimate diagnosis given how things are right now.

The company doesn't need to lay off half the workforce. Honestly, if they just let go of 20% of the mathematicians 😁 and 15% of the IT staff, plus maybe a few linguists, the whole system would probably collapse

I’ve spent about three weeks trying to figure out how to skip that fourth elective without offending my professor or making things awkward.

Yeah, my daughter's classes just started at the end of June, and she wasn't really interested. It’s probably a shame because she was actually doing great, but it's just miles away from what she cares about

My daughter ended up dropping out too, mostly because they started teaching Python in 7th grade, and coding at that level just isn't her thing.
She actually loved working with Logo and micro:bit, but Python is way beyond what she’s interested in right now.
I honestly don't know how much longer she'd stick with school if they kept adding stuff like this to the curriculum.😂

I don't really have the energy to dig through the whole curriculum myself. Would anyone be kind enough to explain how they're planning to run this extra module—both the standard and the advanced versions?
we're looking at 16 grades with about 25 kids in each class at the same time.

Good grief, that's really all we need to complete the set.

For decades, nobody could figure out how to extend after-school programs in all our schools through the 2nd or 3rd grade, yet now they're suddenly planning to implement them up through the 8th grade.
😂

Larry Walker24 said:Yeah, because nothing beats heading into a classroom that hits 95 degrees when there isn't even any AC. Totally brilliant idea, let's just shorten summer break 👋 👋 👋

obviously being sarcastic here

I suppose once they actually finish building those 1,000 schools needed for the reform, maybe they'll finally get around to installing air conditioning.☕

Instead of shortening summer breaks or reducing daily school hours for kids, they’re pushing this nonsense.

It sounds great on paper to have space at school for homework after classes, guaranteed tutoring, or room for recreation... those are all really solid ideas.
But having kids stuck at school until 4 PM just isn't right.
I'm honestly relieved my kids won't be part of this; I can't even imagine a schedule like that. When would they hang out unsupervised, hit up McDonald's or a local park, focus on studying, go to sports practice, or just spend time with family?

It feels like we're just institutionalizing our children.
The rest of the world seems to be moving toward shorter workdays and more freedom, yet here we are, trying to lock kids up in schools.

Susan James said:Well, they'll increase the number of teachers, right?🤣
Goodness, why even ask that? There are chemistry teachers lining up out the door just for a chance to work in an elementary school so they can spend extra time helping motivated—albeit slightly exhausted—students.

God, I feel so silly, that makes total sense!!

Susan James said:Well, they'd need a chemistry teacher, a German teacher, a physics teacher, a math teacher...
The real question is which classrooms they'll be using. Plus, if I understood the guidance session correctly, they need at least eight students in a group at the same time to get that extra support. 😬

They’re extending the school day, and honestly, they're going to make a ton of money doing it!

It isn't just about the rooms; it's about the staff. If a school has sixteen classes but only two or three teachers per subject, they can't exactly clone themselves to make sure everyone gets that extra support during those two hours.

But when exactly are they supposed to be drafting and grading the tests?
Is it somewhere between "No, Luke, that's not the accusative case" and "Come on, Rosie, try to remember what the simple past is"?
All-day school schedules in Students & Teens ·
I mean, what kind of teacher is actually going to sit there with them for two hours trying to help them wrap their heads around chemistry, physics, German, math, and English? 😁

Brian Wilson7 said:One day it might be English, the next math, then German... there are kids who actually enjoy taking every single class because they love it.
I still have nine years until retirement. I really hope I don't have to work like this for more than four; I can't imagine being stuck in a school from 8 to 5 when I'm sixty. Even my current 8 to 2 schedule is exhausting. Plus, I’m wondering what we'll even do for eight full hours every day. Will they at least provide breakfast and lunch?

And what about the other kids? It says regular school is mandatory until age 15.😁
If their classes wrap up by 1 PM (though I'm not sure how that'll work), they'll still have two hours left to spend at school.

No matter how much I try to wrap my head around this, I just can't make sense of the logic here.
They want homework sessions and extra help to happen before 3 PM.
Who on earth is supposed to be helping these kids?
With 800 students in the district, how are three teachers expected to provide math support to everyone in just two hours?
When and how is that even possible?
And when are the kids actually supposed to study? Or where?
Right now, they’re already in class until 1 or 2 PM; is the plan really to extend the school day even further so they can squeeze in both homework and studying during school hours?
It just doesn't make any sense.

If the issue is just that the requirements are too easy to breeze through, then universities really need to raise the bar.
Is it actually possible for a college to require an 80% or 90% pass rate in a specific subject?
How much leeway do they actually have when it comes to setting their own enrollment rules?
High School Guide: Admissions, reviews, and advice in Students & Teens ·
I was actually pretty shocked when I heard the pass rate was under 50% 😂

I think there’s value in kids learning languages, but mostly just because it makes picking up the next one much easier.
Otherwise, I don't really see the point—you never know where you'll end up needing them anyway. 😁
