ISS flyover coming up in the next ten days in Miscellaneous ·
Man, I finally caught a glimpse of it through my telescope today—just using the lowest magnification I have, with a 2° field of view. 😍

The main structure was pretty clear to see, but trying to actually dig into the details is a total workout because it moves way too fast—not like I have any auto-tracking 😬to help me out.

I was out watching on Monday, though I completely missed catching it through my telescope 😢

Definitely going to be better prepared today! 😁
So, I’m looking for some Teflon sliders—you know, those little things you attach to furniture so it glides across the floor without scratching everything up.

I’ve already hit up Home Depot, Lowe's, Ace Hardware, maybe a couple of specialized shops too, but nothing. Honestly, the only Teflon I’ve actually laid hands on is the coating on my non-stick skillet, lol!

I did track down two wholesalers that sell them in bulk, but the minimum order is 1 kg, which comes out to about $50.

If anyone happens to know where I can just pick up a small pack of these, I’d really appreciate the tip.

Thx!
How do I password protect a USB drive? in Software ·
Some USB drives actually come bundled with a little utility program designed specifically for that purpose.

Then again, you could probably just grab something similar online... Have you tried doing a quick Google search yet?

William Edwards14 said:Look, I’m just laying out the standard procedure here. Between my years on the bench as a misdemeanor judge and now working as an attorney, I pretty much know this dance inside and out. My intention was honestly just to be helpful, and I really hope someone finds some clarity in what I wrote. To you, though—since it seems like you're sitting there waiting to read every single comment that doesn't even apply to you—maybe just skip the posts that don't concern you? There are plenty of people here talking about stuff that actually matters to your situation. And, let's be real, in 99% of these cases, you're just going to end up with a citation anyway.

It definitely helped me!

Thanks so much!! 👍

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure what exactly he ended up with.

From what I can gather—it’s a bit fuzzy—they gave his license back, and all he got were some papers from the breathalyzer test. Nothing more than that, I think...

So, is he just waiting for the official notice to arrive in the mail, or does he need to jump into action right away?

I have a quick question regarding how to file an appeal.

A buddy of mine had his driver's license taken away for "DUI."

Here’s the deal—he was just sitting in a parking lot (totally separate from the main road), hopped in the car, and started it up just to get the heater going—or so he says, anyway, I wasn't really there, so who knows.

But the thing is, he wasn't actually driving; he was just idling in the parked car. Then, out of nowhere, a cop taps on the window—license, registration, "step out of the vehicle," "have you been drinking?"—breathalyzer test, and all that. It felt like they were just patrolling the lot waiting for someone to trip up.

They gave his license back, though, and now he’s just sitting around waiting for the fine to arrive in the mail. That was just a few days ago.

So, he's thinking about filing an appeal with the Appellate Court. My question is, when exactly do you write an appeal, and who is the actual recipient?

Does he do it right now, or does he wait until the ticket actually shows up at his house?

Thx!
Well, since we’re already playing around with changing letters in usernames, could you do me a huge favor and update The Chemist to The Chemist? 😁😁
Much appreciated!
Diet Coke in Health ·
So, this idea of yours—like, just dropping a piece of meat or a tooth or a liver into a glass of soda and watching what happens—it’s kind of a nonsense experiment... It’s the phosphoric acid that does the actual eroding.

And once that same phosphoric acid hits your system, it isn't really an acid anymore; it gets neutralized. Phosphate is actually a key compound in metabolism and a ton of other biological processes, so it's nowhere near "eating away at your liver" while it's inside you!!!

Okay, fine, teeth... Sure, it can erode enamel... But comparing how your teeth react while you're actually sipping some Coca-Cola to an experiment where a tooth sits submerged in it 24/7 is just apples and oranges.

As for artificial sweeteners—cyclamate, aspartame, acesulfame—they're in pretty much everything these days. And every single one of those products lists a maximum daily intake you can have without any health issues... Yeah, in massive amounts they're bad, but if you really think about it, almost anything is harmful or even lethal in huge quantities—including the stuff we lack, which can be just as dangerous or fatal 😁!!

Caffeine? You get way more of that from a cup of coffee than you ever would from a Coca-Cola...

Now, look, if drinking massive amounts of Coca-Cola has some sort of negative effects, that’s true... But honestly, what exists today that doesn't have absolutely zero negative effects, especially when consumed in large amounts?!?!
A few months back, my sleep schedule was a total disaster... I had this roommate who snores loud enough to wake the dead, so I was lucky if I managed two hours of shut-eye a night! 😲

After about a month of living like a zombie, I ended up in the ER... They ran all sorts of tests—honestly, some pretty pointless stuff too—only to conclude that the root cause of basically everything wrong with me (the dizzy spells, that constant brain fog, you name it...) was just pure exhaustion from lack of sleep!

The worst part was that I’d lost the ability to actually fall asleep or maintain any kind of routine... (so they put me on some pills 😁 )

Eventually, my doctor suggested something almost laughably simple... She told me to head to bed only when I actually felt sleepy (regardless of whether it was middle of the day or three in the morning...) and that I shouldn't try to force myself to sleep if I wasn't feeling it!

After about three or four days of following that, things finally leveled out!!!
Now, I'm getting a solid 6 to 8 hours a night.
