Schizophrenia - General Discussion in Psychology & Therapy ·
Harold Anderson3 said:Well, I'm back again after being away for about a month.
I've been working construction out on Maui.
The work is actually decent, and we managed to negotiate a pretty good hourly rate, though there's a catch—I'm not officially on the payroll. Out of our four-man crew, only one guy is actually registered with the state; the rest of us aren't.
To be honest, I think it might actually be for the best, because before you can get officially signed on, you have to pass a medical exam, and I already have a feeling that’s going to be a major hurdle for me.

It honestly feels like they won't let me work, and they won't let me live, either. I just can't sustain my life solely on medication. If I could just have a pension that allows me to live a normal life like some people do, I wouldn't dream of picking up a shovel or climbing a scaffold ever again.

Anyway, I don't want to bore everyone, but until I clear these loans—which should take another two and a half years—I am going to fight with everything I've got to keep working. And maybe even after that, too. I have no intention of settling for disability or social assistance; I am capable of working and I truly want to work, which is something I've proven many times over.

Just leave the country, and before you do, try to get your paperwork cleared so it looks like you don't have any conditions.
I managed to pull it off, but one of the requirements was that I had to leave the US before my psychiatrist would give me a clean bill of health.
An optional psych eval without a diagnosis.

I passed the medical check without any issues, and now I'm working and making enough money to stay abroad and maybe even find a better gig.

I don't know if it's the same with all psychiatrists in America, but I only got my clean papers once I convinced mine that I was leaving the country.

Because if you leave the country, you aren't their problem anymore. And those diagnoses they write down? They don't mean anything here anyway. They're worthless.
They can only cause you trouble, but they don't actually grant you any rights based on them.

Of course, it never even crosses my mind to seek psychiatric help again.

You can.
Nobody’s going to grill you...
And they'll wipe that diagnosis clean if you convince them you're moving abroad.

I stopped my meds and requested clean records just so I could move out of the country, and they gave them to me straight up.
