Ronald Anderson48 said:St. Jerome is actually a different parish, so getting married there isn't an option. At least, that's what I was told this year.

Otherwise, the chapel is just what's left of the "St. Stephen under the Pines" monastery. Regarding those comments about weddings being held at a cemetery—I wouldn't allow a ceremony there myself just for the sake of following some trend.

It's a former cemetery. And no, it wasn't about "trends," it was about "appearances."🥳 Does that make me any less of a faithful Catholic when it comes to getting married there?

It’s actually the same parish as St. Francis and Manhattan, so they do weddings there, and I think I saw one happening just today.

So, looking at this whole mess regarding whether or not people are actually allowed to get married over in Manhattan... honestly, I feel like regardless of what kind of specific circumstances a couple might be dealing with, the church shouldn't really belong to the priest alone. It feels a bit off that he gets to just decide on his own whim who’s allowed to tie the knot there and who isn't, or basically acting like the judge of whose reasoning is "good enough" and whose just isn't. I guess it's just my take, but it seems like he shouldn't have that much arbitrary power over who can or can't marry in the parish. 🙄 I mean, I honestly feel like people who actually belong to Holy Cross Parish should probably get priority when it comes to picking wedding dates—or at least the whole process should be consistent with that kind of logic, you know? But it just doesn't work that way, I guess. I can think of at least twenty different couples who have gotten married here over the last few years who don't have any real connection to the parish at all. And from what I can tell, most of them managed to snag their preferred dates simply because they happen to know someone who’s close with the priest. 🙄

Susan Jones6 said:Yeah, honestly, that’s the part that keeps me up at night...

I’m gonna head down there in person in the next few days to grill them and see what the deal actually is.
At least then I'll know where I stand—whether I need to start looking elsewhere or just...

Well, one way to handle it might be to just keep pressing him and not back down, so maybe he'll eventually give in sooner or later. 😁
The other, probably more elegant option would be to swing by the Holy Cross Parish office when he isn't around, maybe catch one of the other priests instead, and see if they'll just get you signed up without any drama. 😁 Usually, they have a schedule posted on the door showing when everyone is in, I think there are three of them total.

It’s definitely possible we're looking at terminal ileitis.
Is this just a one-off thing, or could it maybe be the start of something more complicated, like potentially even Crohn disease? 🤔

Please, do let us know what ends up happening once you've had that consultation with the gastroenterologist.

So, the gastroenterologist gave me a tentative diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, but they want to rule out celiac disease since I've dealt with similar, though milder, symptoms since I was a kid. Because of that, I'll need to go in for celiac testing next month and get a gastroscopy done too. They did rule out Crohn and other types of IBD, though (my calprotectin came back negative both times I checked, and the MRI looked fine). If it turns out it isn't celiac, the diagnosis will likely stay as IBD, and they suggested I repeat the colonoscopy in a year just to see if there have been any changes.
Hey everyone, I just had my follow-up appointment with my gastroenterologist about two weeks ago, so I was wondering if someone might be willing to take a look at my lab results for me? 🙂
I'm 29, and I've been dealing with some pretty rough digestive issues—mostly constipation, bloating, really loud bowel sounds, and even seeing some blood in my stool.

Calprotectin came back negative
Stool tests for parasites, bacteria, and viruses were all negative too
Fecal fat/digestion test showed some muscle and starch fibers present, but no fat droplets were found
Ferritin is 9 (normal range is 10-120)
My CBC showed a few deviations from the standard reference ranges:
Hemoglobin is 109 (normal is 119-157)
Hematocrit is 0.340 (normal is 0.356-0.470)
MCV is 79.1 (normal is 83.0-97.2)
MCH is 25.3 (normal is 27.3-33.9)
RDW is 16.6 (normal is 9.0-15.0)
Iron is 4 (normal is 8-30)
UIBC is 68 (normal is 26-59)

As for the other tests, my colonoscopy showed edema in the terminal ileum, specifically looking like PHD edematous mucosa with loose mononuclear infiltrate
The MR enterography actually came back normal, though.
Keith Gomez9 said:Please, don't even go there. I’ve barely managed to wrap my head around the reality of this situation as it stands. 🙂 I was looking at these wedding photos from California and honestly, I’m so jealous; San Francisco just hasn't caught onto that whole laid-back wedding vibe yet.
Ben's is booked solid through the end of the year and part of next. I looked into some beachfront cafes, but they either won't rent out the space or their prices are absolutely ridiculous.
We're looking at about 110 guests, so I eventually caved and agreed to the Malibu location. My thought process was that if I put enough effort into the decor, maybe I could salvage the space and make the whole thing look somewhat close to what I actually envisioned.

Wait, where'd you hear that? I was actually looking into this pretty recently, and they only seemed to have maybe one or two slots left for this year.
Btw, I made sure to ask if they do just space rentals plus catering, because apparently, they won't do that. 😁

Sam Myers66 said:Did you guys actually talk to the people at the mill? Ending at midnight is pretty lame, if that's the case, I'm not even bothering to call them. As for Barbera, I was at a wedding there once and it was gorgeous—the vibe and the food are top-tier. I'm just not sure about capacity; maybe 70 or 80 people max. There isn't a real dance floor either, just improvised space once you move the tables around. Also, it’s kind of a pain because the floor is stone, so if you're wearing heels, dancing is going to be a struggle.

I haven't personally, but an acquaintance of mine got married there, and apparently everything had to wrap up by midnight because the restaurant probably only has a permit to operate until then, so they started gathering earlier in the afternoon.

It's the same deal with those stone tiles over at Benjamin Franklin.

I’m actually looking for something outdoors by the water, somewhere along the coast between Charleston and Savannah, for about 100 people.
We were checking out Benjamin Franklin in Saint Louis, which honestly seems like our best bet, but like we mentioned earlier, they aren't exactly the most reliable spot; the reviews are pretty rough, and they don't even use email, so you have to go down there in person 🙄 which would totally mess with my schedule since I don't live in San Francisco during the year.
Places like Santa Barbara and The Beverly Hills Hotel are just way out of our budget, and the Radisson is too, plus I don't think their terrace can even hold that many people. I'm not really feeling the Carnegie vibe either, and that house in Savannah isn't for us—those are basically all the outdoor spots I know in Saint Louis, so if you guys have any other ideas, please shout.

The Old Mill in Santa Monica seems alright, and you could probably decorate it nicely, and they can handle food and I think they have seating for maybe 80 people, but if you go over that, you're kind of on your own. Also, a wedding there could run until midnight, which makes it a whole daytime thing, and mid-summer is just way too hot for that, whereas if we pick an earlier or later date, there's a higher chance of getting crappy weather. 😁

What about Barbera in Durham? Does anyone know anything about that place, like how many people it can actually fit? And would it even be possible to set up a dance floor there?

There's this farm called Panj in Haverhill that looks really beautiful and I've heard nothing but good things, but it's not right by the ocean. 🕺

vividotter12 said:I attended a wedding there about two and a half years ago. The setting itself is absolutely stunning—provided you don't mind that the floor is slightly uneven and sloping. However, the food was an absolute disaster, and I know they aren't exactly budget-friendly either (if my memory serves, my friends had to cut one course because it was $45 per person). I can only hope things have improved, though their TripAdvisor reviews are currently abysmal. It’s such a shame, because the atmosphere is truly beautiful...

They've had a new chef for the last couple of years, so I'm kind of wondering if anyone here has been to a wedding since he took over? Also, I think prices have gone up lately, maybe hitting $55, $65, or even $75 depending on which menu you pick.
The setting is seriously beautiful, but I guess the risk of bad weather and mediocre food 😁 is making me a little hesitant.

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone here has actually dealt with a pirate situation out near Benicia in the last couple of years?

Keith Moore said:Where can I find some maternity tights? Specifically looking for something thicker than 20 DEN.

I was checking out stores by the Atlantic, but they only carry 20 DEN, so I grabbed a pair at a drugstore today and—ugh—total fail. The quality is honestly trash; they've got those weird horizontal stretch lines all over them, so I'm definitely taking them back.

About a month ago, H&M over on Flower Street had some 70 DEN options, but they’re totally sold out now. All they have left are those basic, thick cotton ones.

Just a heads up if you're looking: the main difference between maternity tights and regular ones is the stretchy waistband and that wide panel designed to cover the belly.

Have you maybe thought about trying a low-rise style? I used to grab those thicker, opaque microfiber ones with the low waist from the Victoria's Secret outlet. I actually gave some to a friend once, and they worked perfectly for her through her whole pregnancy.
For years now, I've pretty much exclusively worn those Victoria's Secret microfiber ones—they have different waist heights and everything. They're just high quality, they don't get all worn out quickly, and I can wear them for several seasons. Plus, they only cost $6.75 at the outlet.
