Does anyone have any idea why I’m having such a hard time signing documents through the Bureau of Labor Statistics website? I have that January extension installed on both Chrome and Mozilla, but nothing seems to work. When I try using Chrome, it just sits there spinning indefinitely like it's processing the signature, and over on Mozilla, once I click sign and the prompt for my password should appear, the dialog box just vanishes entirely, leaving me stuck...

I don't have any issues signing things for the IRS on Internet Explorer, so everything works fine there, but the Census Bureau site won't cooperate even with that browser—it just keeps throwing an error saying, "An error occurred during the signing process."

Does anyone know what else I might be able to try? I've gone through all the official instructions from the Census Bureau and tried every single step they suggested, but I'm still getting nowhere. Thanks in advance!

Just so nobody is speculating unnecessarily—I finally managed to separate my corporation from my sole proprietorship. I’ve successfully organized both sets of certifications so everything is running smoothly now.

I would really appreciate some help if anyone has run into a similar issue lately

So, here is the situation: the same individual owns both an LLC and a sole proprietorship.
Last year, they set up a Fidelity Gemalto certificate for the LLC, which works perfectly fine for all the Fidelity services and the IRS website.
A few days ago, the owner also went ahead and obtained a separate certificate under their own name for the sole proprietorship—though, from what I understand, everything could have just been handled through the existing corporate certificate, but that’s beside the point for now. The PIN decryption worked smoothly, and the Client Software picks up the new certificate without any issues, so everything seems technically sound on that front.
However, the problem starts when I try to log into the IRS site using this new certificate tied to the sole proprietorship. Instead of seeing the business profile, it automatically pulls up the LLC interface and doesn't give me any option to switch over to the sole proprietorship. I am guessing this is happening because the same person is listed on both certificates via their Social Security number, and now I am stuck. I am not sure if I need to contact the IRS to sort out some kind of authorization or if there is another step involved.
It feels a bit nonsensical since there aren't any separate authorized representatives—it is just the owner using these certificates for all their business needs—but clearly, there is an extra hurdle to clear so the certificate can be used for the small business rather than just the LLC. If anyone has dealt with this before, I would be so grateful for any advice.

Thanks in advance!

I ended up calling my bank, and they suggested I reinstall the Gemalto software support. So, I went ahead and did exactly that—reinstalled everything from scratch—but unfortunately, it’s still not working...

It seems like something shifted deep in the system when Windows 10 ran its latest update. Even though the certificates show up fine, the moment I try to select one, instead of prompting me for my PIN, I just get that error message I mentioned earlier regarding the Windows Security smart card reader. It acts like the device isn't even plugged in. It won't work through Chrome or IE, which means I'm completely locked out of the IRS website, Social Security, and pretty much everything else I need to access 😠

Has anyone else running win10 with a Gemalto USB stick run into a similar headache? Is there anything else I should be checking or trying at this point?

Just give the help desk a ring at 1-800-555-0199 and let them walk you through it.

I think I'll try poking around a bit tomorrow morning to see if I can figure it out myself, but if I hit a wall, I'll just reach out to tech support. Thanks so much for the advice, though! 😉

Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone might be able to lend me a hand... My computer recently ran an update (I'm on Windows 10), and now I can't seem to log in to the IRS website using my Gemalto USB—it won't work through Google Chrome or even Internet Explorer.

Whenever I try to select my certificate, this error pops up:

Windows Security
Smart Card

Gemalto USB Key Smart Card Reader 0

The smart card cannot perform the required operation or the operation requires a different smart card.

Could anyone please help me figure out what's going on? I honestly have no clue why this is happening; my Activision Identity USB works perfectly fine, but these Gemalto ones just won't cooperate anywhere. This is pretty urgent because I need to file my joppd and get payroll processed!

Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone here might be able to lend me a hand...

The thing is, whenever I try to digitally sign my retirement application, I keep getting hit with this error message:

An error occurred while retrieving information about cryptographic devices

Basically, the system can't find the device at all (I'm using a Thales USB token provided by the IRS)

It’s strange because when I filed my last application about a month ago, everything worked perfectly and the signing process went through without a hitch. I haven't changed anything on my computer since then, other than updating Java, so I'm really stumped as to what could be causing this... thanks in advance if anyone has run into a similar issue.

They got back to me lightning fast. Honestly, I was almost suspicious—usually, you're waiting forever for anyone to even acknowledge you exist.

I ended up writing that it was an emergency and they needed to check what was going on, because honestly, it makes zero sense that the owner and CEO—the very person the certificate was issued to—would need some kind of power of attorney. Anyway, I'm just hoping they move quickly, though I'm feeling a bit uneasy because every time I hit send on an inquiry, there isn't any confirmation saying it actually went through; it just kicks me right back to the homepage, so I can't even be certain if my message actually sent.😠

And I'm supposed to just sit around waiting a few days for a reply when my sales tax filing is due tomorrow.😠

I’m looking for some guidance if anyone here has more experience with this specific headache—Back on February 28, 2017, our accounting firm had power of attorney for the IRS, but that authorization was officially revoked on that date. Since then, the owner and director of our LLC went ahead and obtained a digital certificate in his own name to handle everything for the company. In my mind, there shouldn't be any need to grant anyone else power of attorney if he’s the primary user, yet every time we try to log in, we get an error message. It says the certificate was issued in his name under that specific EIN, but then claims he lacks the authority to file because someone else is listed as the authorized representative in the registry...

Does anyone have an idea of what the exact next step should be to fix this?

Hi everyone, does anyone have any insight into why the IRS portal won't let me sign something like an OPZ-STAT-1 form? Everything went through perfectly fine last year when I was signing my tax returns, and it's really confusing. I actually renewed my digital certificate back in January, and since then, I haven't had any issues submitting or signing my other filings, but suddenly everything feels sluggish and it just won't allow me to complete the signature process...

I'm running XP and using Internet Explorer for the IRS site... please help

Brenda Chase3 said:You just submit the amended return exactly the same way you did the first time. Just make sure to give your agent a heads-up that you've sent over a correction so they can pull it up and swap it out, especially if they've already processed the initial incorrect version.

Alright, thanks for the help. I'll go ahead and create a new form, get it submitted, and then let the agent know.

Hi everyone, I have a quick question regarding how to file an amended VAT return.

Back in October, we had to adjust one of our invoices because of a contract amendment, which meant increasing the total by about $6.75. Since this was for construction services, it involved a reverse charge tax liability. I’m trying to figure out the exact process for submitting a corrected VAT form through the IRS portal. I’m already familiar with how to handle corrections for the Social Security Administration, but I’m a bit lost when it comes to VAT, so I would really appreciate some help if anyone here has dealt with a similar situation before.

Thanks in advance for any insight you can share!

Oh gosh, girls, please don't laugh at me, but reading through a few pages of this thread actually brought me to tears, even though the topic itself isn't necessarily meant to be tragic. I am honestly so glad this discussion exists because I know firsthand how incredibly frustrating it is when you're carrying extra weight and trying to find clothes that actually look modern and stylish instead of just "functional." It’s genuinely heartbreaking sometimes to see something absolutely stunning in a shop window and realize you can't even try it on because it simply won't fit. I know, I know—it’s not all about the clothes, shoes, and accessories, but let's be real, we're women, and those things matter to us. But maybe what matters even more is learning how to actually feel comfortable in our own skin. Back when I was over 220 pounds, my self-confidence was pretty much non-existent, and I used to think I could compensate for that by buying really expensive designer labels and high-end shoes, thinking it would somehow prove something to everyone else. It took me a long time to realize that a price tag doesn't fix how you feel inside. Now, even after losing about 65 pounds and fitting into a US size 8 or 10, I still have those moments where I find the most perfect pair of skinny jeans only to realize they still don't fit quite right, and it truly stings. In other countries, finding plus sizes seems a bit easier, but hey, at least here in the States, we are finally starting to see some improvements in sizing. Ugh, I guess I went on a bit of a tangent there...
