The size of the repair shop doesn't matter. Once you check the prices and pick a place, come back here and see what the community thinks. Someone probably already... And as for having someone come to your house? Unless it's a buddy or some guy working under the table, forget about it. You won't get a legitimate service tech coming to your door. If they do show up, it's by appointment and it'll cost you a fortune. Look, legitimate shops aren't filled with scammers and idiots. If they're an authorized Dell provider, they know what they're doing. Accusing people of trying to rip you off before you've even started is just low.

Roughly how long does defragmentation take? It's a 450 GB hard drive... I'm really hoping I don't have to start this today...

It isn't an authorized Dell service center.

We're talking about a major repair chain; they have actual credibility...

That’s definitely an issue you'd see after four years of use. Honestly, you should probably have the thermal paste under the processor replaced too, but you can't really do that yourself—you'll need to take it to a repair shop.

As for why it's slowing down, have you ever even bothered to defrag the drive? There's a built-in tool in Windows; just right-click your C: drive icon, go to properties, hit the tools tab, and you'll find the defrag option. It takes a while depending on how big the drive is and its current state, so don't force it to stop midway through; just let it run when you aren't busy. The program walks you through the steps. That should speed up the laptop.

Does this defragmentation process delete any files, specifically ones that weren't meant to be wiped?

Also, I stumbled upon an old thread from 2008. Is this native Windows tool actually reliable? Does it sometimes fail to finish the job properly, making third-party software a better option?

Regarding the cleaning, how long would a service appointment take? I'm looking at some larger, more reputable shops that charge by the hour...

And are they actually liable if they mess up or, heaven forbid, break something else? Also, what if I were to (albeit at a higher cost) have them do it at my place so I can personally verify they actually swapped the parts out and everything?

Do that, and your problems should be solved...

Do you honestly think that's the only issue?

How much is this affecting the rest of the machine? Because it’s running incredibly slow...

It's so sluggish that it feels completely unresponsive whenever I try to open a file on my desktop or anything else...

How difficult is it, at least to clear out the basic dust, just so I can see if that's really the culprit? I've never really worked on computers before...

And look... there are laptops where the fan kicks in even when you're barely doing anything. Whether yours falls into that category depends on you answering my first set of questions.

FYI, watching mp4 files is a moderately demanding task that puts a decent load on the CPU or GPU (depending on your specs), so it’s hardly surprising the fan starts spinning.

My bad...

Dell Inspiron N5110....

Exactly 4 years old.

Never cleaned it..

I don't remember exactly, but I don't think it started immediately...

Hey everyone,

I’m having some issues with my laptop...

Actually, I have a few problems on my hands, though I’m sure we'll get them sorted eventually.😁

But let's start with this...

Why on earth does the fan—or whatever that component is—start kicking in constantly? Even when I’m under virtually zero load, I’m stuck listening to this constant "whooshing" sound and general racket.

Right now, I'm barely doing anything, yet the second I try to watch an mp4 file, it happens...

If I were actually playing a game, I wouldn't even think twice about it, but this? This is ridiculous.

Any help?
The Turkish economic miracle in Economy ·
Reading through some of this, I can't help but be reminded of Brazil, which went bankrupt within a fifteen-year span—experiencing massive growth only to crash back into insolvency again.

Turkey

Since January 1st, 2015, the minimum wage there has been similar to what we see in the US, actually even higher in some respects. It’s no longer a place people visit just to hunt for cheap textiles or low-end goods.

Their public debt was hitting a breaking point, which is practically a unique phenomenon among nations heavily dependent on oil reserves.

Has anyone here actually taken a deep dive into the data for this country? How much of this is actually accurate?

Or are we looking at the harsh reality of the situation?

That is absolutely true...

I mean, sure, you might stumble upon an interesting tidbit or something actually useful once in a blue moon—but let's be real—there is far more garbage than substance there. If I were you, I’d suggest steering clear of them as much as humanly possible. Now, don't go living like a hermit in the woods, obviously, but do try to set some boundaries for yourself... because quite frankly, many of these platforms are fundamentally toxic at their core—but hey, that’s a whole different conversation for another day.

Moving on! Since you’re out in the countryside now, the best thing you can do is dive straight into some manual labor to get your momentum going. Whether you’re working the fields, tending to the livestock, or just tackling chores around the farmhouse—it really doesn't matter. The main thing is simply to get moving and break that inertia.

As for books, I am telling you—definitely start reading if you haven't already. You'll have to decide what kind of literature suits your tastes, though—after all, you're the one who knows yourself best 🙂 .

I know—on one hand, I despise politics, but on the other, I find myself scrolling through all that mindless trash just because it's constantly being pushed in my face... I know I need to stop...

I'm not exactly the type built for heavy physical labor😁 I really need to get more into running, cycling, and things like that.

That feeling starts to shift once you finally break the loop.

What's actually "simmering" is your creative power, your drive, your actual Life.

Those shackles are all in your head.

1) Media detox (cleaning out the brain)
2) Taking action (self-work > activation)
3) Breaking the chains of inertia—bye bye

By the way, weed definitely has a tendency to fuel that inertia.

It's a mix of media influence and that subjective emptiness you get when you aren't hitting any milestones.

Yeah, but only partly.
Your own positive energy can actually outweigh the nonsense coming from others.
It all comes down to who’s calling the shots—you, or whatever powers you’ve decided to surrender to.

Creative pursuits—whether it's an animation, a job, a project, or just a plan. > Actually creating stuff.

Learning things you actually give a damn about > Self-improvement.

Physical activity—sports, manual labor, whatever > Just getting the metabolism moving.

If I've understood this correctly—and honestly, there are parts of this I might actually try applying myself—I have a few questions.

I spend far too much time reading trashy tabloids like The New York Post, The Washington Post, USA Today, or The New York Post... I'm constantly surrounded by constant, depressing news about the economy and politics. It's soul-crushing. Should I cut that down to a bare minimum?

And should I make more use of being out in the country—more recreation, running, maybe some manual work?

Or perhaps focusing on reading literature regarding self-improvement, psychology, and other topics that actually capture my interest?

Greetings, everyone...

Even though I’m only in my early twenties and should be bursting with energy, I honestly feel like I’ve already hit retirement age...

There’s this constant simmering tension inside me, a restless urge to just lash out because I’m dying of boredom—even though I actually have plenty to keep me busy with studies and everything else. But still...

Since I'm no poet, the best way I can describe it is that I feel trapped in some kind of invisible shackles, just wanting to tear everything down around me...

So many days I just feel completely listless... and too calm. I love living in a small town, but it’s almost unnervingly quiet...

Could this be due to the people around me carrying all that negative energy? Or maybe it's because I'm out in the sticks and don't have much of a social circle (not that I've ever been much of a social butterfly anyway)....

Any advice?
