My girlfriend and I have been together for a year now—we love each other, and everything is honestly wonderful, except for one massive hurdle: her parents.

They run a family business and basically refuse to let her attend high school; they’re physically abusive at home, too, and she’s forced to work constantly under their thumb just to earn a few hours to see me or hang out at my place.

She turns 17 next month, and frankly, watching her stuck in this situation is driving me crazy...

I’m more than willing to offer her a place to stay—even though I’m still living with my folks—but if needed, I can afford a decent apartment in Washington, D.C., for about $2,500 a month. It’s not the money that’s the issue; I just want her away from them.

I’ve already scouted a warehouse job for her where she could pull in about $4,000 a month, possibly through a student work program, and I’ve pretty much mapped out all the logistics.

We even made a plan for her to enroll in night school, which I’d cover...

I came to this forum to ask if anyone has navigated something similar. We are genuinely stuck on how to get her out of that house without her ending up in the foster care system—because, in my view, placing her in a group home seems counterproductive if she’s perfectly capable of living independently.

Eventually, I want us to move in together, but since I'm still under my parents' roof, I need to wait a bit longer...

Please, if anyone has advice, I’m all ears. I’ve planned and organized almost everything, but the one thing I can't seem to solve is the actual exit strategy to get her away from them.

Running away is a terrible idea—it'll just lead straight to a police encounter...

You might want to pick up a used SATA optical drive for about $17—it isn't an urgent need, and the extra cash could be better spent upgrading your other components. Just a heads-up, though: Crysis 3 is notoriously demanding on HW, so don't expect to run everything on ultra settings.

My goal is to get the absolute most bang for my buck given the $1000 budget. If you wouldn't mind just suggesting individual components, I’d appreciate it; I have a feeling I won't find a better value by buying a pre-built system.

I’ve got an AMD Radeon HD 3800 Series graphics card that I'm looking to offload. I'm not entirely sure what the market value is right now—if anyone could give me a ballpark figure, I'd appreciate it. My plan is to take whatever I get from this sale and put it toward a new card capable of handling $333 modern titles. Even if I have to stick to low settings, it would be a massive upgrade; currently, I can't even run Crysis 2, even though Battlefield 3 manages to run on high without much trouble.
It's becoming a bit of a bottleneck, especially since I picked up quite a few games through Humble Bundle that I just can't enjoy right now. Everyone seems to agree the culprit is my GPU, given my current setup:
