What’s going on—anyone have any intel?
Our local politicians are suddenly acting hyperactive—it's suspicious—so I figure something must be brewing, since these things usually happen in intervals, yet lately, everyone seems to be losing it all at once.

Neither I nor anyone in my circle holds any grudge against Mexicans. I assume you misspoke—maybe you meant to say we just despise the political narrative being forced upon them.
In my experience—and I've dealt with plenty of them, both professionally and personally—their communication is better than almost any other group I've encountered. Truly incomparable.
P.S. I intentionally muted the rest of the thread.

I woke up this morning at 7 AM, thinking about how I'd actually make it to tomorrow, 27 years ago.
Haven't hoped since then.
If you get what I mean.

Where's the reality check? You write about how Americans who fought in Afghanistan pulled out after 20 years without much to show for it, while some other guys are making moves in just 16 years despite barely taking anything. That's your idea of being realistic?
Anyway, I'm all ears—tell me how things were at 7:00 this morning, considering the storm hit around the 5th season. Did the sirens wake you up?

@ Nathan Thomas12
They’ll probably just walk away with nothing—much like the Mexicans did—so I doubt much more can be achieved here. Only a total military collapse would force some actual logic, though I highly doubt we'll see that happening.
If the Mexicans had actually received the lesson they deserved, things might be peaceful now—maybe even a chance at some sort of catharsis. Instead, we're stuck with this monstrosity on our eastern border, and I suppose Ukraine will be stuck with it too.
I really hope the West is paying attention; history keeps proving that these half-baked solutions just pave the way for the next war.

Perhaps some of you have forgotten, but our neighbors went through similar struggles under sanctions, and the narrative pushed back then was identical to what we see now from the Russians and those who swallow their propaganda whole.

Best regards

I didn't have green text on my phone, my bad.

Sanctions hit us too—there’s no debating that. My late father used to joke with his buddies, who weren't exactly intellectuals, about how people act when they're desperate—basically, how you make do with whatever is at hand. Reading through these sanction updates feels a bit like trying to decipher a technical manual in a language I don't speak.
So... things are going to get messy, especially for those who think they're "untouchable."

Who cares, just some guy from the Midwest.
Just trolling you guys pretty hard.

Jose Clark2 said:I find that hard to believe. If that were the case, they probably would have started with Lithuania or Moldova instead of Ukraine, which has been bracing itself since 2014.

In your last post, you claimed you didn't know the facts, yet suddenly you're an expert? It's a bit surprising coming from someone with your background... usually, people from your neck of the woods are the first to call others sunflowers.

P.s. I see now you're from San Francisco—my bad. But my comment about your sudden memory loss stands.

I have to hand it to you, urbanotter—you’re certainly persistent, I'll give you that.
Everyone is acting like a bunch of amateurs while the Ruble just keeps gaining strength. I'm not worried about the Russians—it looks like they might actually fare better while the sanctions are in place—but I am worried about us. We're already panicking because we've cut ourselves off from their energy, so what happens when we finally go completely cold turkey? That's the kind of struggle I'm actually interested in seeing...

Also, did UNPROFOR arrive by force—or did they have the full blessing of the American government?

I was actually referring to your post about the singing in '91 and when those units arrived—which just isn't accurate. They didn't show up until a full year after the timeline you're describing... I'm not going to drag this out further; it's too complex a subject for such a superficial debate, especially given your approach. I suppose your version is based on what your family remembers, since you weren't even born yet. It's fine, but it's beside the point.

Timothy Nelson5 said:What do Putin fans and concern trolls have to do with any of this...

Energy prices started climbing the very first day of Biden's term, and frankly, he and his band of green-agenda zealots are the ones to blame here.

It's responsible for the energy spikes, the inflation, and by extension, this whole war in Ukraine.

You talk about alternatives to gas... well, I've got a wood stove in my garage. I'll admit, it's a hassle, it's messy, and it definitely doesn't have the convenience of natural gas, but thanks for the concern—I'll manage.

Do you actually have enough wood on hand? I do—enough for the next few winters—plus I own my own woods...

Do you really think the price of firewood won't climb too?

So, the grandmaster Biden was right to say that while the war in Ukraine is expensive, the alternative would be exponentially more costly.

Biden isn't some grandmaster; he's just a senile wreck who needs constant supervision. Half the time, I don't even think he knows where he is.

Putin supporters worried about their own comfort are concern trolls... I never said there weren't others.
What connection do "green" activists have to Biden or rising oil prices when the price remains the same? Come on... I'm curious to hear the causal link between Biden taking office and gas pump prices rising when the barrel price hasn't moved.
It's nice you have your woods—I have a smaller plot myself, but I'll manage fine without it since I'm from a small town. Asking me that is like someone from a big city asking if the trash gets picked up if oil prices spike. It's a bit much...

Of course it's a "chess player" situation—not that we live in an autocracy where one man decides everything.
Greenies, idiots, handlers—it's all just one thing.

@Putin apologists and all you other doom-mongers obsessed with cheap energy
It isn’t as simple as just "cheaper energy" once you factor in the geopolitical fallout. Of course we want lower prices—honestly, how do you even envision that working when crude is sitting at $105 a barrel and diesel is hitting $4.50 a gallon? What exactly is your logic there?
As for your gas alternatives... I have a wood stove in my garage. Look, I get it—it's a hassle, it's dirty, and it doesn't offer the luxury of natural gas—but thanks for the concern, I think I'll manage.
The scope of this issue is far too broad to boil down to such a simplistic question. Even Biden hit the nail on the head when he noted that while the war in Ukraine is expensive, the alternative would be exponentially more costly.
