Russia's invasion of Ukraine: Part 5 in War in Ukraine ·
Noah Martin2 said:Where's the reality check? You write about how Americans who fought in Afghanistan pulled out after 20 years without much to show for it, while some other guys are making moves in just 16 years despite barely taking anything. That's your idea of being realistic?
Anyway, I'm all ears—tell me how things were at 7:00 this morning, considering the storm hit around the 5th season. Did the sirens wake you up?

The US didn't conquer Afghanistan; they just occupied parts of it. It was never fully under their control.
As for the Russians, I guess you're trying to say they act with full force, but in their own way. I don't see it that way. And I wouldn't want it to be like that.
Look, whether you know it or not, civilians usually suffer most in total warfare. Even one innocent victim of sick politics on either side is too many.
Itchy? If you have a problem, go see a doctor. They might actually help you.
You think you can provoke me with your little jokes? You can't.
But I'll tell you this: back then, at 7 AM, we had tons of critically wounded people who couldn't get help because of the terrain and constant enemy fire.
If you're curious, look up where the most soldiers died during Storm.

I'm done hoping.
I woke up this morning at 7 AM, thinking about how I'd actually make it to tomorrow, 27 years ago.
Haven't hoped since then.
If you get what I mean.

Andrew Booth29 said:And let’s not forget how the Russians slunk out of Afghanistan with their tails between their legs. So, what is the actual point here? If they couldn't even manage to hold onto Afghanistan, how on earth do they expect to conquer Ukraine?
I'm afraid the answer is: they won't.

Exactly. The Russians also fled Afghanistan because the Mujahideen and Americans teamed up against them.

Russia will struggle or fail to conquer Ukraine, not because they lack the raw power, but because the future of civilization is on the line. Eventually, this war is going to end with negotiations and a split Ukraine—one part under Russian influence and one part under Western influence. Just like Korea or Germany.

Nicole James said:Like I mentioned before, there is a massive difference between defending oneself and occupying another nation. You're comparing apples to oranges here. The US entered Afghanistan without much initial resistance—the real issues only surfaced when the mission dragged on indefinitely and they had to contend with constant guerrilla warfare. To suggest that Russia—which hasn't been able to secure significant victories against the Ukrainian military for months now—could somehow pull off a better occupation scenario is, quite frankly, delusional.

Americans spent twenty years trying to beat the Taliban, which was just a few dozen thousand people. Not even a real army. And they couldn't do it in those 20 years. It wasn't just the US either, it was all of NATO. After wasting all that cash, they left with their tails between their legs. Which was basically one of your analyses, if you remember.
Could use some reality in these "analyses," since they aren't really analyses.

Estimates show the war in Afghanistan is gonna end up costing over $6 trillion once all those debts actually come due.

Nicole James said:LOL, maybe in your wildest dreams. Americans don't pour billions in aid into a country they intend to just abandon. And honestly, nobody is all that terrified of those famous nuclear weapons anymore. There's far too much hype surrounding them.

Look, I'm just gonna address these few lines here.

Between 2001 and the pullout from Afghanistan, the US burned through over a trillion dollars. That's basically 500 times what's been sent to Ukraine so far.
They killed over 100,000 Afghan civilians and lost more than 2,000 of their own soldiers during that time.
So yeah, what you're saying doesn't hold water. It's got zero basis in reality.

Some troll implied they should be at the front instead of vacationing by the coast.. ☕

Since they're obvious draft dodgers, there's no way they belong on the coast.
A Toyota is something 99% of Ukrainians couldn't afford in their wildest dreams, let alone in real life. Pure arrogance.
Same stuff happened here in the States. Tons of us little guys couldn't dodge the draft. The ones who did? They're the politicians and the tycoons today, acting loud and supporting all the wrong things.
Today is the first one, and there's only three days left until the fourth. And the fourth was the biggest trauma of my life. Honestly, I'll be lucky if I can even grow the last bit of hair on my head back.
It's sad how much you guys love talking about war and feeling bad for those poor souls dying in Ukraine, while showing zero respect for our own people.

So, today at a Verizon station, saw this Lexus 450 with those fancy plates. Driver and passenger both looked about 40, driver was rocking a Milanov jersey, number 9. They walk out of the shop with two energy drinks.
Gave me the chills.
