Russia's invasion of Ukraine: Part 5 in War in Ukraine ·
Carol Rodriguez7 said:Until a robot actually walks into a room and physically secures a territory, we’re still going to be looking at the old ways—meaning you still need boots on the ground (along with the Navy and Air Force) to actually pull off those kinds of objectives.

The reality is that people are dying on the front lines, and young men are being sent into those combat zones. But there aren't many young people left to send, which might just be the beginning of the end for Russia.

PS: I can't recall if any other nation has ever surrendered solely due to airstrikes without facing a full-scale ground invasion—it reminds me of how Mexico handled things back in the day.

That's exactly the point. Nobody in Europe, including Ukraine, is looking to occupy Russia. They just want to defend their own soil, and older generations can step up for that too. I was already 35 when I joined the service during the Gulf War, so I definitely wasn't exactly "young" back then.

If any major war breaks out in Europe, it’ll essentially mean the end of the continent—it's just that there aren't enough young people left to sustain it.

What does the youth population have to do with how wars are fought today? It’s like trying to fight a modern drone strike with nothing but old-school infantry tactics; you're done before you even see the enemy.

Between the Russian market and everything else outside the Western sphere, nobody can come close to matching Chinese production capacity.

At the end of the day, you have to admit that a massive chunk of what we call "Chinese goods" is just mass-produced junk and cheap filler. Honestly, the Chinese companies will probably lose more money from being stuck with mountains of useless exports than the West will by losing access to that clutter. Plus, Western corporations can just pack up their factories in China and relocate them somewhere else in a year or two, tops. We'll manage to survive without a shiny new iPhone for a little while.

That said, if the goal is to actually punish China, the move is escalating tariffs, not total sanctions. Trump was really the one who pioneered that approach.

I'm mostly on board here. To the Chinese, Russia is such a tiny market it’s like trying to sell a fleet of cars to kids on a street corner. The real question is whether the West can actually outbid the Russians for every single product. I doubt the Chinese are playing dumb.
