Hormonal Contraception: The Pill [General Discussion] in Women's Health ·
Hi. I have a question and a major dilemma.

I’m over 30, have one child, and the last time I took birth control pills was probably over 10 years ago. I just started back up again; it's my first month.
My doctor told me I was protected starting that very first month. Well, I finished all 21 pills and now I'm on my 7-day break, and it's day 5 and I still haven't gotten my period.
Since it's been such a long time since I last used them, I'm a bit lost. Does anyone know if, during the first cycle, the period can show up later than expected?
Actually, yesterday I felt like it was coming—mild pains in my lower back, ovaries... but nothing happened. Now I'm starting to worry.

We had sex on days 8 and 19 of my cycle. I assume that second date was the riskier one if the pills weren't working yet.

Thanks for any answers.
It seems like most of the talk here revolves around Heat, so I'll just say that, for me, the movie was pretty mediocre. Neither Robert De Niro nor Al Pacino 😁 felt right in their roles... they just didn't seem to fit. It feels like the whole thing was forced just to get them on screen together, but the formula was off.
The movie IS a bit of a slog.

Andrew Anderson6 said:Anyway, why do you think you're addicted? What happens if you don't take them???

First, thanks to everyone who replied. It actually feels a bit easier just talking about this with people. I tried telling my boyfriend, but he just started yelling at me, saying I wasn't being normal and that it would be my own fault when my health fails. He wasn't helpful.
Then an old regular on this forum recommended this place to me. They said if I couldn't find support here, I wouldn't find it anywhere.
I'm really glad you all responded.
Reading everything you wrote, I'm starting to think maybe it isn't even a physical thing. Like, I take these pills more because of my head than my body.
Why do I think I'm addicted and what happens if I don't take them?
Look at it this way: if I have a slight headache and skip the dose, sometimes it just goes away. But other times, it gets so intense that even two Advil won't touch it. Then I have to switch to Aleve, but I'm not addicted to those. I only take those when the pain is so blinding I can't even look at light, and that only happens a few times a year.
But the real issue is that sometimes I reach for the Advil even when my head doesn't hurt. Just out of habit.
But reading your comments and listening to myself, it's getting clearer. I see now that the problem is psychological.
I haven't had the strength to face this until now... because of how things are going in my life lately, I don't get out much. I'm mostly stuck inside. Since I've always been an active person, being cooped up is killing me. It’s probably that mental dissatisfaction someone mentioned.

And, btw, maybe you should think about spending less time here... you think you have a pill addiction, wait until you're addicted to this forum.

Well, I'd rather be addicted to a forum than to pills. At least let the forum replace the medication.

I’ve been denying it for a long time, but I have to be honest now: I’m addicted to painkillers.
I’m hoping there might be a doctor on this forum, or at least someone who’s gone through something similar or knows how to handle this.
I'm 27. It started out pretty harmless—just a headache that felt like half my head was splitting open. Then it got worse, so I just took a whole pill. Since those headaches could get so intense and frequent, sometimes I had to take two at once. I went to see specialists about the migraines, but all they told me was that it's likely psychological or just standard migraines.

I know that using something like Advil as an analgesic can lead to dependency and that the body eventually builds up a tolerance, but I’ve been taking quite a lot for a while now.
It happens often. Every single day, sometimes twice a day... occasionally three. There are even times when I take one even if my head doesn't hurt, just because it helps me fall asleep.

This is a serious issue and I am genuinely looking for help. I don't have any other habits... I've never smoked (smoke bothers me too much), I don't drink (alcohol makes me sick), and I've never touched drugs (and I have no desire to)... it's just these pills.
I don't even know what kind of damage I'm doing to my body, but I know I am. I don't know how to break the cycle. I've tried to stop several times, but I always end up right back at the bottle of pills.

Please... I don't know how to help myself.
