Hormonal Contraception: The Pill [General Discussion] in Women's Health ·
Can you actually pick up birth control pills without a prescription? Or is it just certain brands? Or what's the deal??

I always have a valid prescription...but I’m miles away from getting my hands on some stupid piece of paper right now. To make matters worse, the pharmacy won't let me get Yasmin—even though I have two empty boxes right here 😉 to prove I use them. I tried explaining the situation—you know, that I can't physically get to the doctor to grab the script, so I suggested they just call my nephew instead
—but they wouldn't budge.
I've also been thinking about switching brands altogether. If I do decide to switch pills, is there supposed to be a break in between? And does it actually matter which ones I move to next...? For instance, would something like Logest be an option?

briskmoose90 said:sabina, gle, the same thing happened to me recently—I just forgot to take my pill. Simple as that. I didn't even know which one I missed. I didn't do anything about it because I couldn't figure out which week I was in (I'm on Triquilar, and his packaging always confuses me). I had one extra pill left over, so instead of taking it, I just tossed it and took a standard seven-day break.
For the first seven days of the new pack, I used backup protection.

Don't stress too much about taking two pills at once; it’s not the end of the world. For context, an emergency contraceptive pill has way more hormones than those two Yasmin pills you took. Most girls don't face any serious issues after taking one.

Personally, I wouldn't advise skipping your break to start a new pack immediately. It can trigger heavy, prolonged bleeding that's a nightmare to deal with. It might not happen to you, but it's a risk. Besides, you've already stressed your body out by missing a pill and then doubling up unnecessarily. Adding a back-to-back pack on top of that seems like overkill—especially since you mentioned your partner is traveling and you haven't had sex anyway. 🤷

If I were you, I’d just take the normal break and then start a new pack. Use backup protection for the first seven days if you end up having sex, and leave it at that.

So, what you're saying is that once I start the new pack (the 21-day kind), I should use backup protection for the first seven days?
Because that's exactly when I'll need it—my boyfriend is coming to visit.
It’s honestly not a matter of being unable to follow the instructions—I pretty much have them memorized at this point. My actual issue is that I CANNOT for the life of me remember exactly when I missed a pill,, and now what? The manual doesn't offer any guidance for scenarios like, "If you can't recall which specific week you missed your dose (was it week 1, 2, or 3?), then just do this and that..."

I know for a fact that I took my pill last Friday (06/03),—and I've been consistent from then until today.. but as for the time before that🤷 I haven't the slightest clue!

Pregnancy isn't what I'm losing sleep over; that's not even my main concern here. What I really need to figure out is how to proceed, because my gynecologist is currently traveling and I can't get a hold of him. Besides, I want to be fully protected by next week—I have zero interest in taking these pills and just *assuming* I'm covered, only to end up in a mess.

And here’s another little hiccup regarding the instruction manual: these pills were imported from Bulgaria😁 so they're printed in Bulgarian using Cyrillic script😁 haha
I took two yesterday—though my stomach has been acting up ever since, feeling all crampy, almost like I’m about to start my period... then I went to the bathroom and noticed a tiny bit of spotting, but nothing else after that.
But today, starting this morning, my abdomen just feels like I have😕

If I finish this entire pack, this Friday would be my last pill. Then I take a seven-day break, and on the eighth day, I start a new pack of 21, right? Is my protection compromised now because I missed one—and if so, how long am I actually at risk?🤷
I’ve been on Yasmin for quite some time now—really quite a while—and honestly, I haven't dealt with any side effects at all... not even a single hiccup regarding my mood or my weight. If anything, I’ve actually lost a bit of weight, which isn't exactly a complaint, is it?😍
Since I haven't had any negative experiences with Yasmin, I think I'll just stick with it for the time being...
I did consider switching brands, purely because the price tag is a bit steep—it's definitely an expensive option—but I've managed to figure out a workaround for that.🙂Whenever I travel East, I just pick up some Yasmin for about $17😁 and I can get it without needing a prescription right then and there!
p.s. Just for the record, I do have a valid prescription from Dr. Ginić.🙂
I’ve been taking Yasmin quite consistently for a long while now—about three years, actually.
It was just today that I realized I’d missed a pill. To be honest, I only noticed because I went to check my supply to see how many tablets I had left until the end of the pack—since I know I always run out by Friday—and, surprise, surprise, there’s still one extra pill left over for Saturday.😕
And the best part? I have absolutely no memory of when I actually missed it... which is just wonderful!
So, what’s the move here?
Normally, I take them right at 10:00 PM; I even have an alarm set on my phone every single night just to make sure I don't forget.

p.s. I’m not exactly worried about pregnancy, since my partner has been away on a trip for three weeks already.😉

I'm just wondering how to proceed with the pack now. Since I can't even pinpoint which day I skipped the dose...🙄 should I just take two pills tonight all at once, or...?
And what about the next pack? Do I just carry on as if I’d taken them all perfectly, or is there a different way to handle it?😁
