Hormonal Contraception: The Pill [General Discussion] in Women's Health ·
Hey everyone, does anyone know which birth control pills might be better to switch to? Since starting Yaz, my mood swings haven't really improved at all. I find myself just grinning like an idiot for absolutely no reason.😢

Sure, my first day was supposed to be Saturday, but I decided to kick things off a day early on Monday just to shift my schedule around. The snag was that I completely blanked on the recipe, so I couldn't get moving with the active phase this past Friday. 😢

We’re discussing Yazu, which comes with a four-day period of placebo pills. It’s like having a scheduled break in a long commute.

Lisa Myers said:Look, if you want to stay protected, the only way to go is to SHORTEN the break. Based on what happened Saturday, you should have only taken Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday off, then started the next pack on Wednesday. If you wait until a Wednesday a week later, you aren't covered for those first TWO weeks. You aren't covered for those extra days you added to the break either.

So, based on what you wrote, I'm assuming you’re on day 8 of your break right now and thinking about waiting another 5 days to start. In that case, you won't be protected after tomorrow—not until you finish this new pack plus another two weeks. I wouldn't recommend doing that since you really should have started last Wednesday. You'll end up needing backup protection for almost three weeks.

Was I clear enough? If not, just say so and we can try explaining it one more time. 🤣.

Thanks so much for the quick reply! :3
But no, I've been on my break since Monday—today is actually day 6.
I didn't want to deal with bleeding over the weekend, so I decided to shift things around, but now I'm totally lost on what to do. :/

The first day of my pill pack was Saturday, but I’m thinking about switching things up and starting on Wednesday instead. If I start this Wednesday and use a backup method like condoms for the next seven days, am I still looking at a higher risk of pregnancy?
Please let me know, this is kind of urgent, thanks! :

I have a question; if I intentionally skip my last active pill and start taking four placebos instead, will that affect my protection four days from now?
thanks for the answer 🙂

I'm currently on day 19 of my Yaz birth control, having started right on the first day of my period. Everything feels fine, except for the fact that I haven't stopped spotting since I began 😢. It’s a bit like waiting for a new engine to settle in; I'm not overly worried since it's only the first month and my body needs time to adjust, but I don't see any signs of it stopping soon. I'd love to hear if anyone else has dealt with this. Thanks in advance 😁>

Well, after 29 days (including 4 days of heavy flow), the bleeding finally stopped! It's like a cloudy morning finally turning into clear sunshine. I'm so relieved that my only side effect has cleared up.

Lisa Myers said:This makes me think you aren't actually bleeding as much as your first post suggested. You probably just have constant spotting or an occasional small "flare-up." That’s perfectly normal. However, things should stabilize by your second pack. If you're still dealing with this during the next pack, call your OB-GYN. They will definitely switch your prescription. Did she mention that? Usually, prolonged bleeding means your hormone dosage isn't high enough.

Check this out. It's a great read for any woman on birth control.

The bleeding is just enough to be handled by a heavy-duty pad. My periods used to be much heavier, but they were always regular and consistent, so this little hiccup has me a bit worried.
Basically, my plan is to push through to the end of this pack. If things don't improve during the next one, I'll ask about moving to something stronger like Yasmin, since my doctor already mentioned a higher estrogen dose if things don't settle down on their own.

Anyway, thanks everyone so much, you've really calmed my nerves😁 and the link is super helpful!

I did, and she checked me out, but I ended up panicking because I went to her in the morning when I was barely even bleeding, so she just sent me home.
