Hormonal Contraception: The Pill [General Discussion] in Women's Health ·
After five years on Adexe—which started out perfectly but left my skin looking absolutely wild toward the end—I decided to make the switch over to Belaire.

I’ve only just cracked open the third pack, but the emotional rollercoaster is already hitting me hard. Honestly, I’ve been weeping like a toddler over the smallest things. Just today, a clerk at the grocery store was incredibly rude to me, and I found myself sitting in my car, completely breaking down because of that 🙏
. I assume this is likely just another side effect of the pills. However, I’m also feeling significantly more anxious lately, and I can't quite tell if that's part of the same chemical shift or something else entirely.
My PMS symptoms tend to wash over me for about a week and a half, which feels like an eternity.
Part of me desperately wants to just stop taking birth control altogether, but I am genuinely terrified of what will happen to my complexion if I quit.

For those of you who have been through this, how many months of usage does it typically take for these side effects to level out?
I’m worried they might never settle down, especially since with Adexe, I dealt with constant nausea during those first few days for five straight years.
Now, I’m facing that same fear—that these current side effects are just my new permanent reality.
They aren't the worst thing in the world, and I know some women have it much harder, and generally speaking, I actually like being on the pill; it's just this sudden moodiness that isn't really my style. I’d honestly much rather deal with nausea than this.☕

I asked my OB-GYN about birth control because my periods have been incredibly heavy and painful. After some consultations and tests, she prescribed LYNDYNETTE 20.
Now, I’m getting a bit anxious. I really don't want to gain weight—I’ve spent years shedding pounds and I’ve finally reached a weight I actually feel good in.
The biggest concern, though, is my family history. My mother had a heart attack at 46, and my grandmother suffered several strokes starting from age 35 and onwards.

Does anyone have any advice? Should I take it or skip it?
I was on Yaz for a year; the only issue I had was with digestion, but after a year, I started experiencing panic attacks and things like that. That was about five years ago, though.

It isn't strictly the pills that cause weight gain, but rather the increase in appetite they can trigger. Ultimately, how you manage those cravings is entirely up to you.
I always found that keeping healthy snacks on hand helped immensely. For me personally, that intense hunger lasted for about the first six months of being on the pill, and then it just tapered off.
If you maintain discipline and don't find yourself constantly reaching for pastries and sweets, you won't end up gaining weight simply because you're taking oral contraceptives.🙂

Regarding your mother and grandmother, I'm honestly not sure what to say. Did you happen to mention that specific medical history to your doctor? To be perfectly frank, I wouldn't be certain if these pills are recommended given such a strong family history of cardiovascular issues.🤔
It might be worth seeking a second opinion, assuming you haven't already shared those details with her.

I was wondering if any of you ladies undergo regular private hormone testing once a year while on birth control?

Between my work schedule and everything else, I just can't make it over to the clinic in downtown Chicago to get them drawn and then sit around there for two hours waiting.

I would truly appreciate any recommendations on where to go, and perhaps an idea of what the approximate cost might be.👍
