Period talk: Questions and advice in Women's Health ·
Emily Kelly65 said:Has anyone else gone through something like this? I'm really curious to know if I'm the only one!

Up until recently, my period was basically a walk in the park! I’d deal with some pretty intense cramps on day one, but that was it—it would wrap up in about four days with a totally manageable flow. No biggie, right? But then, about a year ago, things started shifting slightly. On the second day, I’d get these cramps, but honestly? I just brushed them off because they weren't even that bad. Then, everything changed over the last three or four months. It’s like my uterus suddenly decided to go rogue! For the first couple of days, the flow is just... overwhelming. I'm talking needing to change a tampon every hour and a half! And with my last cycle, it dragged on for seven or eight days at the exact same intensity. To top it all off, those heavy cramps from day one have come back and are hitting me hard during the last two days too. What is even happening?!
Got it today and honestly? It feels like all the dams on the Red Sea just burst open again. :/

Anyone have any ideas on what could cause such a huge shift? I’m totally stumped! There haven't been any major life changes lately—well, at least none that I can really pin down as a cause—and I definitely haven't changed anything with my medication. So, what else could it be? Any thoughts?

You should definitely head to the gynecologist for an exam and an ultrasound. It could be cysts, it could be endometriosis, or honestly, it might be nothing at all! We’re all just guessing based on our own experiences here, right? My periods were always absolutely brutal, and over time they just got heavier and heavier. I also started dealing with pain during ovulation and PMS that I totally ignored until I finally got an actual diagnosis. I'm really crossing my fingers that whatever this is turns out to be something temporary that just clears up on its own, but if I were you, I’d definitely get checked out. Good luck!

Sarah Long68, maybe just take another test if you haven't heard anything by now? You should definitely call your OB-GYN and be totally upfront about what’s bothering you. I mean, if he didn't finish inside, there's no way you're pregnant. But... if you aren't actually looking to start a family right now, please be smart and use protection every single time, regardless of where you are in your cycle!

Wait, 14 isn't too young for a gynecologist visit at all! Honestly, I think it’s actually the perfect age. She’s probably totally fine, but isn't it always better to have a professional give the okay?

Maestro just pulled off a total masterclass to expose that four-way scam! Can you believe it?
Maestro totally schooled that hireling!
Maestro drove like an absolute legend, holding onto that fifth-place spot through the entire race! Seriously, how does he do it?
Maestro! 🙏🙏🙏
The Maestro, guided by divine intervention, is actually making that Ferrari bucket of bolts drive! How does he do it?

You know what I mean. You totally get the point! 😁

Nope, I really don't!
That’s just nonsense, and I’m definitely not the one saying it! Honestly, I still maintain that other fans bring him up way more than I ever would. Maybe you’re just being biased, which is probably why it doesn't bother you? Look, it’s not like I’m falling into a deep depression or tearing my hair out over this, but I definitely notice it!

jadeseal7 said:Fernando Alonso would hardly ever be brought up here unless he actually earned it—and it's clearly just his fanboys acting like blind believers. 🙄 Honestly, who else would even talk about Fernando Alonso or Kimi Räikkönen if it wasn't for their die-hard fans? Just forget everything about 2014 already.

Personally, I actually feel like he gets mentioned more by people who don't even claim to be fans! But hey, I'm not one of those people obsessed with digging through every single statistic, so I can't say for sure.

Just remember, kid—Lewis Hamilton is never coming back to those heights! Seriously! 🤞✨

Do you have a crystal ball or something? Seriously! I see some people on this forum are just completely obsessed with Fernando Alonso. What’s the deal with that? You know that old saying about how good horses always end up in the mud? If you haven't heard it, go ahead and Google it—it'll change your life!
No matter what car he jumps into, he’s going to squeeze every last drop of performance out of it. Isn't that just how he works? He's always done it!

Benjamin Martin65 said:Whereabouts in Chicago could I actually track down some of that valerian root tea?

I suppose I might give it a shot, though I have to admit I’m feeling quite skeptical about the whole thing.
To tell you the truth, I woke up early this morning in such unbearable pain that I felt like I was right on the verge of being sick; I ended up grabbing some Advil 400 mg immediately, and after about twenty minutes, I finally managed to drift back to sleep since the discomfort had clearly started to subside. Right now, I'm feeling perfectly fine, so it seems the Advil was the real hero here, leaving the "inventor" of this herbal remedy in the dust.

You can pick up valerian root at any local pharmacy. And hey, if they don't have it in stock, just ask them to order it for you—you'll usually have it by tomorrow. I think it costs around $2 or $3. As for those mushroom capsules, I actually grabbed mine at a Kroger. They usually have a whole aisle dedicated to vitamins and supplements, but you might need to hit up one of the bigger locations.
Tea won't hurt you, but you really have to be consistent with it!
And please, don't overdo it with the pills unless you absolutely have to. I used to take up to four a day when the cramps were unbearable, but honestly? You don't need all that once herbal teas start doing their job.

Jose Ortiz2 said:The "Glory" website just posted about which two teas actually help ease period cramps.

Last time, I felt so freaking awful I almost passed out. It was brutal until my Advil finally kicked in. 😢 Maybe I’ll start drinking these teas—like chamomile or peppermint—as a preventative measure. It can't hurt; it can only help. 🤷>

Oh man, I feel you so much! Do you have any idea how many times I've ended up in the ER? Seriously. Now I take evening primrose oil capsules, and before that, I was drinking peppermint and Evenflo tea. Everything helps! If the pain hits a little harder (though nowhere near as bad as it used to be!) and I actually have somewhere to be, I'll just grab some Aleve. And that's it. I couldn't even imagine getting through my cycle without Motrin or Voltaren back in the day. Honestly, I'm just so grateful for the ladies on this forum. You guys are such an amazing source of info that can actually change a woman's life!

Hey ladies!
So, I’ve been dealing with this weird brownish discharge for two days now—not too thin, not too thick. Honestly, I'm a little worried my period might be coming early since I’m not due for another two weeks, and the last time I had this exact same thing happen, my period showed up right after (and way ahead of schedule, too).
Has anyone else dealt with this? I could really use some advice!
I know the smart move is to see a doctor, but I actually have my own OBGYN back home, and since I haven't found a new one here in Chicago yet, I'm feeling a bit nervous about seeing someone new. I'd much rather just wait and head back home to see my regular doctor if I can.

analogcobra13 said:It’s my first time jumping into this thread. I’ve been lurking and reading through everyone else’s experiences, and honestly... there are just so many...

Here is what my pain actually looks like:
About three or four days before everything hits, my lower back starts aching. It’s a constant dull throb, but nothing I can't handle without reaching for the medicine cabinet.
Then, things start to shift... slowly at first. For those first two or three days, while I am 🙂 praying to God to spare me from the absolute agony that's coming.
Then, on day three or four, I’ll wake up feeling totally fine. I eat breakfast, life seems normal. Then, out of nowhere, I have to sprint to the bathroom because this brutal diarrhea kicks in. And while I’m sitting there—sorry for the TMI, but this is the reality of it😍—I get these unbearable back spasms so intense they actually make me vomit. At some point in the middle of that chaos, I’ll swallow two Advil, but of course, once the vomiting starts, they don't even stand a chance of kicking in.
At the same time, I’m sweating buckets, looking pale as a ghost like I’m literally dying, and shaking because I’m hit with these massive chills all at once.

And then, quite literally, I am dying from the pain. It’s hitting me from every angle, but the agony is so soul-crushing that I would gladly let them strip me naked and rush me to the ER just to get a shot of something for the pain. But I can’t go anywhere because I can't stop vomiting and running to the bathroom. In those moments, you lose every ounce of dignity. Nothing matters except someone, somewhere, helping me.
The only thing that keeps me sane is knowing it’ll pass in an hour or two.
But even then, it drags on. I can't even begin to describe it or do it justice here. It is pure, unadulterated torture. I start mumbling nonsense from the pain, I’m twisting and turning, I can’t even sit on the toilet... It is a total NIGHTMARE!
Last time, I was actually negotiating with my husband (after one of these episodes, which, by the way, happen every month or two) about just buying a heavy-duty inflatable lounger so I could suffer lying down. Honestly, it sounds easier.

After that, the whole ordeal drags on for another five or six days, and that’s if I’m having a "good" one!
I even get similar pains around ovulation. No vomiting then, but everything else is exactly the same.
I have seen every gynecologist in the state, and they all tell me everything is perfectly normal. I’m at a healthy weight, and nobody in my family has ever dealt with pain this extreme...
I usually start popping Advil every single morning during those days...

So, yeah... that's my life.

Oh man, if you only knew how much I relate to you...
Every single month is a struggle for me. Every single one. I'm 25 now, and I finally realized that the era of popping pills every hour was over, so I decided to finally grab that magnesium today. Why? Because I’m finally starting to listen to the signals my body is sending me. My cycle has always been irregular, too. This month, it showed up about 15 days late. Total nightmare! I never know when it’s going to knock on my door. Sometimes I used to take pills a week early just in case, but it was useless. Now, I can just *feel* it. I know exactly when it's coming, so I know exactly when to take my meds so they actually work.
There were times when my parents literally had to dress me in the middle of the night and drive me to the ER, where they basically had to clean up after me because I couldn't stop throwing up. God, it was awful. You just want to die. You're sitting in the waiting room on those hard plastic chairs looking like a war casualty, and people are staring at you like you're crazy, but you're just having your period.
Personally, I love it when someone stays with me during that first day, no matter how gross it looks to them. It makes everything so much easier, and honestly, it hurts a little less (it's all mental).
