Dealing with bad cramps? in Women's Health ·
I am definitely going to vouch for Magnesium 🙂)). I’ve been taking these 400mg tablets once a day—they’re about $2.50 a pop—and I’ve been on them for a few months now because I’m following this specific diet and need the extra support. Anyway, I got my latest batch last Friday and I've only popped three pills so far 🙂))))), but honestly, I’m floored. I used to go through entire bottles of those heavy-duty, 24-hour extended-release painkillers just to get through the day, especially when the pain would linger for three days straight... so seeing this actually work is wild. Magnesium seriously does the trick. One time, right before my period—maybe a day and a half out—I accidentally downed about a liter's worth of Donat Magnesium, and even then, the cramps were way more manageable. So yeah, definitely give it a shot ;-)

So, my period finally decided to show up on Tuesday afternoon, somewhere between 5 and 6 PM. My stomach is still absolutely killing me, which means we’re pushing the 48-hour mark now. Honestly, I was three days late, and let me tell you, those three days were pure agony; I knew I wasn't pregnant, but the wait was just torture because nothing was happening. During those three days, I was popping pills left and right because my lower back was basically breaking me—I kept feeling like it was finally starting, but then, nothing. When it finally hit on Tuesday, it was absolute chaos; I ended up taking a whole handful of meds plus some Advil Duo. Woke up this morning in total misery, and I spent the entire morning stuck to the toilet dealing with cramps and... well, you know. A friend told me, "Girl, every month you act like you're going through childbirth." And look, it’s always been painful since I started—my legs feel like jelly and everything—but a few times a year, it hits me with these insane waves that are just next level. On top of that, the bleeding is super light; there's barely anything on the pad unless I'm actually using the bathroom.
Now, what I really wanted to say is that I know exactly what real pain feels like, and honestly, rarely anyone gets how much it physically incapacitates you. Like I said, every cycle hurts and passes once you take enough meds, but during this two-day nightmare, I remembered this one month where I only took two pills six hours apart. The day before that cycle started, I happened to drink a liter of magnesium water—totally by accident. I'm wondering if it was just a fluke or if the magnesium actually did its thing, since there's about 1g of magnesium in a liter of that stuff. Either way, next month I am definitely drinking some a day or two beforehand, and I'll let you guys know how it goes. Plus, the magnesium helps move things along with digestion, which is also a huge struggle for me during PMS... that bloating is just the worst.

Thanks so much! Honestly, that’s not even that pricey, so thanks for the tip—I'm gonna try to get an order in as soon as I can.

David Mitchell4 said:I dealt with all those pains back when my cycle was actually regular—though I suppose they just decided to quit on me or something similar. Everything was perfectly fine while I was on birth control, but ever since that medical coma... things have been weird. My cycle shortened to 21 days, everything feels off, and the PMS is relentless. BUT, I’m a believer in herbal teas and evening primrose oil (only the genuine Egyptian stuff) because it actually worked for me. And as for B vitamins? Stick to fresh royal jelly; skip the capsules altogether.

Now I can't even figure out who wrote that bit about the evening primrose capsules or how to actually order them. I didn't have cysts, just one watery one after I stopped birth control that cleared up right with my first period... so I'm kind of at a loss for what else to do besides shots, and even Ketorolac or Voltaren injections are just okay, but let's be real—having someone jab you with those while you're in that much pain isn't exactly a vibe, especially since they sting so much and just end up making me even more cranky. ...

So, I’ve been lurking and reading through all your posts. First off, just so you know I actually know a thing or two about this stuff—I’m finishing up med school and I’m literally working on analgesics (painkillers) right now. Ever since I started my period, they have been absolutely, brutally painful. For me, the whole PMS situation is a nightmare too; I feel like a totally normal human being for maybe 15 days out of the month—basically from day three of my cycle until ovulation—and then the chaos kicks in. The bloating, the sudden weight gain, the water retention, the swelling, the irritability, the aches... it all starts hitting me about five days before my period arrives. And then I spend the whole time thinking, "Okay, here it comes," only for nothing to happen. My cycle usually runs between 30 and 32 days. Then, when it finally does show up, the real insanity begins: these insane pains, legs that go so cold I can't even feel them, back pain that hits even harder, sweating through everything, you name it. The worst of it lasts for about three days. On that first day, I’ll go through a whole bottle of Diclofenac within 24 hours. I’ve talked to my gynecologist—not just one, but like ten different doctors—and they all tell me everything is "perfectly fine." I tried birth control, but it caused crazy bleeding, and once I stopped, my period didn't come back for three months. I even tried taking painkillers preemptively, but that did nothing either because I end up taking the exact same amount of pills anyway. So, honestly, I’m starting to feel like I have to figure this out on my own. 😢 I’ll try black cohosh, and I take magnesium religiously, but it doesn't do squat; it's only good for the mild stuff. My pain is so intense that even if a pill brings me up to some sort of maximum tolerable level within an hour, the pain is still agonizing. It stays with me while I’m lying down, and the second I try to get up to use the bathroom or grab something to eat, it hits me just as hard as before. To put it bluntly, that first day I am completely incapacitated. The next two days are always painful, sure, but at least they’re somewhat manageable. So yeah, that's my life...
