CATIA... Science or just pure luck!?

Isn't CATIA a German product, if I'm remembering correctly?
I'm still a total newbie here, but I've really been getting sucked into the world of computer-aided drafting and design... I started out messing around with SolidWorks 2004, though I realize that version is pretty ancient by now, and isn't CATIA considered much more advanced anyway?
And please, excuse me for asking such basic questions; I'm just starting to find my footing in all of this... 🙂
