It’s really tough to make a call on who this is or whether it's a fake just by looking at it...
My advice? Take those photos—and if you have any paperwork like receipts or gift envelopes, bring those too—and head down to a gallery or a museum. You can talk to the experts there, and they'll be able to tell you what you're actually looking at. If you're living in a big city like Chicago, I'd suggest heading over to the Art Institute and chatting with the curators there.
